After one minute or so, his behavior reminded me of a Situation I was in, when I worked at a local gas station like 12 or 13 years ago:
I was training a new employee and she was at the register to learn everything about it. I was also behind the counter, cleaning the oven, while I noticed something strange was going on. A woman in her mid 40s wanted to buy a few items and after my coworker gave her the tobacco she just wanted to leave. I just heard: "Ehm, Miss! You gotta pay for that!" That's when I turned around and entered one of the weirdest interactions I ever had. The woman was confused and started to check the pockets for her purse. There was just one problem: She wore a summer dress that had absolutely no pockets! Then after finding nothing she politely asked: "Can I still take all the stuff?" - "NO!!!" She then told us she would return later with money.
Well after like 45 mins she actually returned! With - AND I KID YOU NOT!! - just the two pieces of a plastic phone case. She puts it on the counter and says: "Here is the money!" Me and my coworker were looking at each other, not knowing what the hell is going on... Then we told her, that this is a phone case, not money and she cannot pay with that. Again, very confused she took it back and said that she would return later with money.
She never returned that day, but me and my coworker would have dialed 112 (German emergency hotline) if she did. She wasn't drunk. I've never seen the drunkest person behave like that. She could speak clearly but was kind of somewhere else. Other than maybe hallucinogenic drugs, I have no explanation for such a behavior.
This short felt like some sort of recreation of this situation. I laughed so hard! Great one!
