The internet says the Roland S range samplers are difficult and complicated to use. I beg to differ :)

Using these samplers is a strange mix of nostalgia and immediacy with the interface and gratifying sound. As you said in your video, the Roland engineers really did take great care in developing the video interface and menu options. The flexibility and feature set of these samplers I think is what intimidates people. Any complex system offering depth of features is going to be overwhelming at first unless you dig in and push through the initial learning curve.
It's a quick study and even after years of being away, it's all coming back fast because things have a certain logic to them that really makes for an efficient use when you want to move fast and deep control when you want to put some love and craft into a sound. I just learned how to map the Filter cut-off Frequency to Velocity today. While I was reading the manual for this, I came across this statement by the manual authors which sums it up nicely :
"...Admittedly, this can all get very complicated, but some day you' ll thank us for allowing this degree of flexibility..." Indeed.
I really appreciate your videos. You have a very straight forward and down to earth way of conveying information that really is enjoyable and engaging to watch. Please keep your videos coming. I know you have other things going on in your life but I want you to know you and your style are greatly appreciated.
p.s. - I agree with the sentiment that the Roland S line are still the king of sampler "sound" to this day

Thanks, man, much appreciated and that quote from the manual says it all. I have an S770 on the mix right now - so still getting used.
Don't forget I have a channel called Mootant where I have lots more videos.

Lots of intrigue around this sampler line but very little demos on youtube, this is a good vid that demystifies. Roland are great at creating classics with depth, even though it usually means they abandon them quickly for the next product.

I remember when they abandoned the S Range. I called them up and began shouting at them :)

Haha tough guy! Real shame they didn’t evolve it throughout the 90s. I’m hoping they come out with an updated v-synth with a similar or analog filter

@Chris Cowie, I just set my S-760 up with the mouse and a monitor and this was very helpful. I'd love to see more demos! Cheers!

The Roland S-750 is the greatest all digital sampler IMHO. Dead easy to use. Amazing machine.

      I agree.
(BTW I'm Chris using my Mootant account)
You know those comments about it being difficult to use. Hmmm, I have to ask did they ever really use one. I have used precisely zero other hardware samplers I could work with faster than this. Some of today's software samplers like Abletons simpler can be worked with very fast, but not really any faster. Of course to work with anything really fast one must become Jedi master.

Love this sampler! Second one I ever got a chance to use... following a test run on the Yamaha TX-81Z. First record was made using this sampler.

A little trivia worth mentioning on the S series. One of the all time great producers in the genre of Drum & Bass, Dom & Roland took half his namesake from his Roland S760 sampler ....which was the center of his studio for every record he made from the 90's into the early 00's. Listen to his first album - Dom & Roland - Industry, if you want to hear the full potential of the S760 at work. czcams.com/video/y96YvvFdc3M/video.html

Any of them. I have all three. Playback I detect zero difference in sound. The S760 has some enhancements on the operating system and has 32 MB ram compared to S770 16mb and S750 18mb. The difference is the S770 better preamp XLR inputs. Supposedly would mean higher quality sampling but even then I can detect no difference sampling in to an S750 Vs an S770.
