Ghostbusters: The Video Game - Original vs Remaster compared (on PC)

- In my latest video I present you my comparison of the original Ghostbusters The Video Game (2009) with the current remaster (2019). I recorded both versions on the same PC with maximum settings. New to the remaster is FXAA antialiasing. Some textures have been slightly improved, others look a bit blurrier than before. I think this again is a remaster, which is more relevant for the original console versions, less for the PC. But no matter which version you play, I think this is the best Ghostbusters game and a great thing for fans of the franchise.

Mad dog entertainment
@GoTi4No I expected updated graphics or lighting
@GoTi4No Uh, wrong. What "remasters" have you played besides Ghostbustsers? For Tomb Raider, Lara got an entire model makeover and upgraded textures. For The Last Of Us, they updated the graphics with HDR and 1800p resolution options. Those were remasters, not remakes. Remakes are like Resident Evil 2 where the entire game is re-done from the ground up. Ghostbusters just adds a video filter over the same ol' graphics and call it a remaster? Lazy and lame.
@GoTi4No Exactly, this is re-port of the original with little touch ups and I agree about lighting with port overs nowadays. They go full blown and a big example was Return to Arkham.
Deadpool
So when they say "remaster" they mean re-release? Cause it looks the excact same.
It only misses the multiplayer. But I heard they will add that at another moment.
@@Bram25 oh thank God. I hate when they do that for remasters.
Good, i was wondering if i was the only one that didnt notice any real difference
@@Bram25 multiplayer is coming for multiplayer?
@@Bram25 so multiplayer will come back to it and I hope it'll be on Steam.
As a Ghostbusters fan this game is one of my favorites, but I actually don't see any reason to get the "remaster" if there is no real difference. Dissapointing and a missed opportunity to add more content and update the graphics of the best GB game out there. Could have been awesome
Because it's now for the Switch.
They're remaking multiplayer from the ground up, apparently it's going to be completely different from the old multilayer. So that's one reason I guess.
@@thehumerus wgst will online be like?
The switch version seems like the way to go
1 thing I do notice, it performs better on ps4, ps3 would slow down/drop frames when alot of action was happening
The only difference: they changed Doritos by Crispy Snacks at 1:45
They also shaved the mustache off a bellhop! I'll stick to the Doritos edition.
@@trulag I prefer Doritos hauahu
same with that truck in the 1st part of the staypuff
And At 1:29 the guy was Mexican in the original and white in the remaster!
1:27 Different bellboy, what a remaster!!!
Yes. He is no longer a Mexican. The Political Correctness sends greetings. ^^
Lol that’s hilarious
maybe thats even just a randomized person skin. lol
Ahh the memories of being terrified by the black slime monster
The memories of being terrified by the mirror ghosts in the ghost world libary
I was scared of that children's room in the library.
Me when I was 6 lmao
Being alone in this game was SCARY, like seriously, without Peters sarcasm or Rays reassurance that it’ll work out, you felt so helpless... Especially with the slime monsters
The memories of being terrified the whole return to the sedgewick level
Peter: “Nah, I’ve seen this one already. I know how it ends.”
Video: *literally ends*
Ghostbusters remaster vs original
biggest changes in the remaster:
- Renaming of product placement
- Aspect Ratio and Depth of Field
- Color Grading, original is warmer while the remaster is more shade of blue and slightly washed out
- certain characters and NPC details and model features have changed (the bell boy that was short, mustache, and different face, is now a younger looking average guy, no mustache and has glasses) unless the game randomizes NPC characters
- not as sharp but looks like there is a filter on it and certain jaggies are smoother, best example is the Hair.
- Some environment details either got an enhancement where its not as pixelated or it lost some definition in detail
- mirror reflections are more detailed and higher setting
- More Aliasing
- Not really a remaster but more of a Re-Ported Version of the 2009 game to be on the new consoles and PC's
i havent really dived deep so cant tell if there were any major changes in mechanics, bosses, or gameplay. its pretty much the same all around.
it doesn't make sense... i have the original ghostbuster for xbox360 and it can be played on my series x too... it literally just a re-release of same game but for new players who never bought the original... but if you have it, don't buy this one...
They didnt even bother re-upping the deal with Doritos to keep their logo in? Whats even the point of buying the remaster?
Not sure how keeping the Doritos logo in makes the game any better. It's really not that big of a deal.
No product tie ins no deal.
@@NohjAnec
Its not the lack of Doritos that I'm upset about. I'm upset they didnt put the effort of just asking to use the same branding. The remaster just screams that lack of effort, the Doritos is just one of the easier to spot examples
@@dumdummcstupid2414 How do you know they didn't try asking Doritos and they said no?
2:18 Well there is better anti-aliasing in the remaster...
I played the hell out of the demo on 360, but couldn’t ever get a copy
I had one. That game held its value. I remember waiting for the price to go down but it never did. I finally bit the bullet and bought a used copy for $40.
I got luck to grab it on Steam before they removed, less than 5 bucks.
I had one and completed it 100% on the 360
man i remember playing the hell out of the ps3 demo and repeating the library mission over and over till i got the actual game one day lmao
good days when demos were the only fun thing you could play on a console when you couldn't afford the actual full game
i remember the hours of fun playing it it nearly took me all night to complete it and couldn't wait
to unlock all the cinematics and art work after the story was completed.
I played the PSP version of the original game so the remaster looks rly good
That’s a very different version.
Yeah I also played the PSP version, it looks WAY different than the remastered or original version. Was still fun tho
ah yes egon diamond head spangler
@@insanepenguin1928 yeah, that's the stylized version.
Maybe but thats like comparing a 4k blu ray release of a movie to black and white pictures that recreate the movie's scenes that were drawn by a child
I knew I wasn’t crazy when I said the original had a Doritos machine! The official fuel of hard core gamers lol
The reason I got the remaster was so I could play the game on X Box One, since my 360 one isn't backwards compatible with my system. Even if there's not much changed, doesn't make it any less of a great game.
It's just a little bit higher resolution but it looks like someone put a a ton of vaseline on the screen.
Fxaa is enabled... The lowest form of AA. It pretty much blurs the screen to stop aliasing or jagged edges.
Just disable it and enable MSAA. I also recommend reshade for some cool effects that will make the base game look great.
I know, I'm talking about what's on the video.
Other than being able to bust ghosts on my PS4 I was kinda disappointed that the game looked virtually identical to the original. It also maintains what I remember back with the original which is an odd inconsistency in the graphical quality. At its best it still looks decent enough with some solid cutscenes and decent enough facial likeness but it can also look pretty ugly and les polished in other areas. Also the theme tune is barely used which annoyed me the first time round and whilst the music is still great and uses memorable themes from the film I'd have liked a bit more. Gameplay wise is where it still wins, despite the utterly annoying Professional difficulty that has you racing round reviving teammates more often than capturing ghosts but the capturing mechanics are still a joy to use and a genuine buzz when you get a ghost in the trap.
Overall it's still a fun game and plays well enough but as a remaster it's a bit of a ripoff considering how little has been changed and tweaked. The script is still great despite Bill Murrays obvious phoned in performance and it's still the Ghostbusters sequel we sadly never got on film but there was scope for at least a minor graphical upgrade instead of this slightly lazy rerelease ...
1 thing I do notice, it performs better on ps4, ps3 would slow down/drop frames when alot of action was happening
Are my eyes failing, or do they look exactly the same?
I agree with a lot of you with the fact that they barely did anything to “remaster” the game but I’m still going to buy it because this was one of my childhood games that I played nonstop and I no longer have a ps3 console so what I’m exited for is being able to play it again finally on my ps4.
I’m happy with it. I mean, it’s a pretty bad remaster, but just having it on newer consoles is very much worth it
I think the biggest noticeable difference is the audio during the cutscenes sounds less...crunchy on the remaster and they removed the orange/yellow filter from them. But the gameplay sections look nearly identical...Prob just saved me $25 cause was thinking about replaying this and noticed my version was the original release.
I'm just happy that it's on the Switch now, I played through the original dozens of times on the Xbox and I actually see a difference, very slight, but it's there. Traditionally, a remaster never really does much, just giving it a spit shine but mainly porting it to more "modern" consoles, now a remake, that's where the REAL changes are at.
Exactly.
I just wish it had motion controls. They missed a huge opportunity there.
change the color and call it remaster?
They should call GHOSTBUSTER UNMASTERED
man looks like a filter was only added..ill keep playing the old one on pc
I agree. I can do a better job with Reshade or an ENB.
1:46 They fixed the rug for $25! Best deal ever!
So it looks like SLIGHTLY higher resolution textures in some cases and better anti-aliasing solution overall? Wouldn't think justifiable as a "Remaster"
Does the remastered come with multiplayer and local coop as the original PC version lacked these features.
Ah I remember playing the game on my PS3 and miss those times. I'm gonna buy the remastered version just for the memories
So did they fix the mouse acceleration or not?
Thanks man, saved some money. Already have the original on Steam.
Although the remastered is getting a remade multiplayer.
@@thehumerusnope
@@Nickoboss29 Yeah that's been long gone at this point lol.
so is the original and remaster being run at the same resolution here?
here after the remaster was free on egs
Started to play it a few years ago...but then Witcher 3 arrived...will restart it this Christmas. 🎄👻⛄
The original on PC looked great if you had a card that could run it in full HD. I would say it needed a console remaster for the upped res and textures, but PC is essentially a re-release that lost the Doritos license.
this just goes to show that a remaster doesn't always add any new changes visually. any changes that are present felt miniscule or unnoticeable. Another commenter had the right idea of suggesting this was the perfect opportunity to add extra content. like new levels for the multilayer no one really played, to get that more traffic. or gameplay improvements
In terms of mechanics, any difference?
Great job. I almost see a difference.
Remaster? It's just a relaunch. Wasted opportunity, there's a lot of stuff that could've been tweaked.
any achievements on this for pc on epic games like in game ones not from epic games themselfs
The memories of being scared at the age of 9 without the any response from the characters
So they just threw a very basic reshade preset on it?
I thought it would have been all new levels. I'm playing this and thinking this is the same as the original.
Is there a frame rate difference on the remaster vs original
Minus switch. I imagine both Xbox one and PS4 run at native 4k at 60fps.
But, old gen, is unlocked.
See, I'm not sure if this means the original has aged that we'll, or the remaster had little effort put in. Either way it's a damn fun game.
Also, did they remove the achievement for listening to every Answer Machine message? I swear there was one for that.
What do you mean aged well? It’s still a great game.
what was remastered , the price or ;-) ?
WTF? Why are the cutscenes in mono? I never played the original, only the remaster, and the audio quality of the cutscenes was so distracting, but I figured the game was over 10 years old, and that was why, but little did I know the original had stereo in the cutscenes. That's terrible. His isn't a remaster at all, it's a pure downgrade. Wish I bought the original on Steam years ago.
Was the original not the game released on the wii? It had different boss fights too, the collector was a giant worm thing and you fought a skeletal T-rex in the museum
Mate you sure you got the original remaster the correct way around?
Is the framerate at least better?
There was a patch/fix that addressed that in the original. If you get the remaster keep me posted if you see a difference.
Slight improvement in textures and shadows, you need to pay close attention to see any differences!
Could be better!
Sound is a bit higher quality and the mouth movement for speach is eh a little different
And they removed Italian Audio Dub too, so only English audio and italian subs this time. :)
Same with german. Original german Synchro of the movies in the normal game, no german Sync in the Remaster. Felt more like a downgrade sadly
What's the point in blurring to hide pixels? Both look bad in different ways.
I was actually considering buying the remastered version on the PC if was on sale but now I don't think I'll bother because it doesn't look much better than the Xbox One version compared to the original pc version in 4K.
Yeah, I thought it looked exactly how I remembered. Whatever, the remaster was worth it just to have it on the switch.
Remastered is not easy to get Pixar type AA using Nvidia inspector like the original was. HSAA worked awesome on original. And you really need to turn on 16x AF.
It looked like they smoothed it out and slapped 60fps on it? And got rid of some likenesses and adverts they don't have the rights for anymore.
hey guys, don't comment by only watching the first 30 second. once you move further, its clear the filtering and Anti Aliasing has been much more improved in actual game. but i dont think its worth calling "Remaster"!! still could have ungraded the textures at least!
Has the Mouse Acceleration been fixed??? THIS IS ALL THAT MATTERS!
So, all detail has been reduced in the remaster and is much more blurry. So I am definitely going to buy this game, it's a god damn masterpiece of fine work!! Hats off to the masters of disasters !!!
At 1:29 the guy was Mexican in the original and white in the remaster!
They added FXAA to the remaster which gives it a horrible blur and a bit darker area to the characters. i dont get how this is entitled to being called a remaster.
What pisses me off the most is I accidentally broke my disc so I went to buy the game on Steam no longer on Steam because they took it off steam years before the release of the remaster when they announced the remaster.
EDIT:also the only Improvement I see is color correction and they fixed the broken anti-aliasing.
You can still "get" the Steam version on Amazon. It's "DRM-Free" (lie, it has SecuROM you have to launch at least once with the game) but it is still available. I have both copies since I bought the game two or three years ago.
Holy fuck I played this game years ago
I guess people liked Doritos more in 2009
The remaster has to have SOMETHING, the size of it is like 10 gigs, that's insane compared to the original.
Wait is the remake on Steam?
still waiting to see remastered part lol
i have both versions but i think their both great
im mad that the re-master is more a re-release, but i cant be too mad, as i got it for free on the epic games launcher.
atleast im replaying the original too.
Original 4K Dorritos logo ftw. Seems the "remaster" was only released to re market the game for the switch and get some more ghostbusters hype going in anticipation for the next real ghostbusters film. Oh and one more thing, busten........
...... makes me feEeeEl goOood.
Remaster means recoloring?
Either Original or Remaster I love Ghostbusters !👻🚫
The sounds sort of compressed
Ghostbusters 360 running on Xbox One X?
The Original is the Winner👍
Still look very good game
I think I'll stick with the original on PC, 360, and PS3. Never realized that multiplayer was removed from it completely on some of the other systems.
hows this a remaster?
Remastered looks still same
Damn just a filter change
Why bother even remastering if it's not gonna be significantly improved or atleast noticeable.
"We've got to have MONEY".
Really I think the one thing that would've made the game buyable would be multiplayer I mean a ghost buster game like this needs multiplayer
The only reason I see to get the remastered version would be if there was NEW stuff.. new story maybe, new things to find..
Also the new multplayer, pretty hyped for that.
The original looks way better than remastered
not to me it doesn't. Remastered has sharper textures and better color timing.
@@swifty1969 Sharper Textures? The textures are all smoothed, thats it. Just look at the sticky @ 0:45, it's sharper in the original, like everything else.
@@mrblonde609 you can clearly see in the rug and mirror scenes that the remastered images are sharper. The remaster uses AA.
Yep.
"IS" there actually any difference between the two? They look exactly the same to me. I own the original on PC and I don't think it is worth buying the remastered one.
It's shame, they didn't bring the original multiplayer back. With some polish it could be good addition for the fans.
In the original i remember playing a blond dude... am I the only one? May be a mandala effect...
Updated colors
This Ghostbusters the video game Remastered looks like only for gamers who have not brought the original game, hopefully they could update this game for a much higher graphics in a small similar to halo 1 and 2 anniversary
I have the remaster on the PS4 and it looks way better
Yeah, plus they remastered the cinematic cutscenes which is nice, but overall not much was changed which is fine tbh since the game is still amazing, I would call it re- release more than a remastered to modern consoles.
Yeah, in your dreams it does.
I feel that the original looks a little bit better than the remastered.
No, it doesn’t. It’s still the same.
I bet they are gonna make a remake ghostbusters that’s why they didn’t about touching this remaster version
the remaster cutscenes audio is earape on Xbox
Wow so they put a less vibrant tint to it and changed a few vending machine because they lost licensing for Doritos..
Its a shame the game isnt on steam
Rolo Rolo The original was on it for a while, but they took it down a couple years ago.
i see a HUGE difference...cause i played the wii version than the pc version x)
When does the original look better than the remaster?
Only worth it if u have ps4 Pro and a good TV really
