      They should've razed Berlin to the ground after robbing it tbh. Robbery is the least you can do after defeating an enemy who's hell-bent on erasing your very race from the face of the earth.
      You don't give a fuck about the watches either, you're mad because the Nazis lost (badly).

      What Zit Tooya no, I think is is a real photo. I can remember hearing that those two soldiers are the two that raised the Russian flag over the reichstag. The photo has also been demonized, if you look carefully enough the person helping to raise the flag has a watch on this is to make it seem he has stole it from a German. The original picture didn't have the watch.

      @whatzittooya9012 Před 6 lety +20

      I know about the original photo (you're close on the details- the original photo had a man wearing both a watch and a wrist compass. Soviet press, not wanting people to think that the soldier in the photo was wearing a looted watch, edited it out). The creators of Hearts of Iron 3 made a color painting based on the photo, and that's what Arsenhoz used as a background.

      Correct, Soviet looting of Berlin was pretty wide-spread. The majority of Soviet soldiers were by-and-large peasants who either enlisted or were conscripted into the Red Army. To give it a bit of context, considering the Red Army soldiers were predominantly peasant-based, invading an enemy capital where most residents were considered to be well-off middle-class would've presented many opportunities for these soldiers to grab some spoils inaffordable or inaccessible to them from where they came from.
      I think the Russian documentary Soviet Storm by Star Media touched on the views of some Soviet soldiers' during the offensive into Germany. If I recall correctly, a female Red Army soldier recounted how they all simply didn't understand why the Germans had invaded the USSR. I'm paraphrasing here, though she said that while most people in the USSR lived in huts and villages, the Germans lived in apartment blocks and had easy and accessible coffee among other things. Point being - why would such an advanced people, who relatively-speaking lived in luxury, want to invade a seemingly backwater country?
      The rest naturally followed.
