One of the last true great Rock n Roll bands Britain ever produced. Still waiting on the youth of today getting the finger out and bringing guitar music back. There are a handful of bands like Marseille, Afflecks Palace and Pastel trying to revive something but its just not enough.
I think the closest band at the moment is Shame, or Fat White Family before them. The Windmill in Brixton is producing loads of very good rock bands at the moment but most of them stay relatively underground.
This for me is up there with the best gig iv seen on youtube would give a arm to have been there, always loved the libertines there probably my favourite band
Fantastic upload - pure chaos but really captures them in all their glory. This must have been a couple of weeks after Pete got released from jail? Setlist to die for too - Cheers!
Yeah - I went with a friend from school. She was talking to Gary the drummer (I think that’s his name right?) before about it - and he was like ‘what can I say?’ The whole gig I was wondering a little if she was ok, it was so packed we were split immediately, I remember it feeling a chaotic performance for five minutes but then the band all synced up. When you’re not good at real life art can be such an escape. I saw Babyshambles headline a club night at the Astoria in 2004ish and that was surprisingly great - it’s when we’d all counted him out
Nice bit at 24:45 where the security guy hands out bottles of water to the 'preciators. Everyone seems to applaud him 10s later (although it's all so euphoric it's hard to tell)
I reckon if your were there in those days, that must have been great. I'm old and would have been in my 40's, so totally missed out on this, they passed me by and I only found out about them, once I started working with much younger blokes as a lecturer and these younger blokes were into the Libertines. I had my day in the late 70's - similar scene - similar vibe with the Mod thing - this just looks so cool.
The thing that’s great about this is it’s just fkn chaos 🤣 they’re not in key just blagging, it’s proper punk rock!😎 PS shout out to the sound man if you ever see this 🤣😎😎
I was at this gig and have been looking all over for good footage! This is awesome thank you. Did you happen to get any of Black Wire, the opening band?
No I didn't. Are you sure about that? From my memory this was the late show at the Barfly and don't remember any support. Although I think I'd come round from seeing Special Needs in Kentish Town, so possibly missed. Sorry I'm not much help :-( haha
@@RevJock No problem. There was def. an opener called Black Wire and from what I remember they were really good! Kind of like The Horrors. Thanks again for posting! I was actually able to find myself in the crowd and take a screenshot :)
@@davidhauslein7491 you are right, actually Telecaster guitar Pete uses at the start belonged to Si from black wire. I’m guessing it’s all other bands gear, because that guitar Carl is using isn’t a guitar I’ve ever seen him use. Funnily enough, just a few months later, Pete stole Si from Black Wire’s girlfriend at a gig in Middlesbrough. She ran off with Pete.
@@RevJock Yeah sorry I immediately commented and thought 'Of course they would know it's called Mayday, they're an original Libertines fan!' All I needed to say was put the chapter in, apologies :)
If being disorganised, out of tune and the rest tuning then perform yr songs, with shocking sound and only a glimpse at thier actual talent it's like they are a half done masterpiece,,slightly off key n kilter,,,if u had no familiarity with the music it sound shite,,an 8 don't And didn't overated tossers
I’m having a Peter Doherty renaissance.. this is fookn amazing!
Imagine not seeing it happen in real time and knowing how it would all end from the start...
Libertines London gigs circa 2002-2004 were sooooooooooo good. Those were the good old days.
this just looks like the best gig i have never been too, if only could turn back time! miss the good old days
I saw them a year or two after this. Pete was already out but it was definitely the best show i've ever been to.
The good old days❤️
no one take video.just have a fun at this moment. what a good old days

Closest thing to punk in the 2000s!
Absolutely :-)
@@RevJock ohh, what became of the likely lads....
Someone never saw Billy Childish at the Boston Arms
its like if punk and indie had a baby
This is a jewel! Pure gold! Thank you! Boys were so incredible back and still are then!!! Look at Peters energy even... you know hahaha Obrigada!

Wow. I went to the Barfly many times.

Banging out belter after belter, pure class ❤🎉
Smoking in venues yup this definitely the early 2000s
The good old days. Although best to vape now, smoking is bad!
if I could time travel to any gig, this would be up there
Underrated

Unfortunately I'm the other way round, too young to have been there (cause I didn't exist.) Bloody shame- would've loved it
Love The Libertines.
everyones tuned to a different planet
Completely 😅 but with the libertines out of tune sounds pretty damn good! Cheers my friend
Amazing, thanks a bunch for this
No problem and thanks for watching, Toni :-)
I was 13 and they wouldn't let me in
You’re 32 now should be ok mate
This is amazing footage. They were so fucking tight

They’re still fairly tight though. Great stuff
Spot on about the sound man! He’s played a blinder to be fair, trying to deal with all that carnage, sounds great! 👍
I love it and I'm 63. it's what being young is supposed to look, sound and feel like@@Wheresthemusic
Thanks!
Thank you for uploading! ❤
Thanks for the upload!
Bernard Butler❣️
Best video
Kids these days will never know how important the Libertines were to us.
I'm a kid (by that I mean a teenager) and they're pretty bloody important to me- don't worry, some of us still really appreciate them
Ah, the Camden Barfly ❤️
Tuner wouldn’t go amiss 😀
lack of strap locks this gig
pete looks infinitely fit at 25:00
Libertine's early gigs characterised by mic stand being too low...
Peter like 6 4 so not many artists that tall lol
I was there

ロックンロールバンドってこれだろ。 It's real rock'n'roll band.

The song at 20:43 is called 'Mayday' if you wanted to add it as a chapter.
Of course it is. Thank you :-)

great to watch, love the live aspect but sound is a bit lacking.
Is that rob chev at the front with the cap. Aryte man
Real.
🇬🇧
Was this pre or post drugs?
Until you’ve run a pub or two and experienced barfly
Pete, hope its fucking you, met briefly in Oldham...
For those that know 😉
Try tuning before playing
This is so shit but it’s still amazing
Those were the best Libs shows...

They were really bad. I don't believe anyone really liked them.
