In this video our Greyhound Scout goes to the vet for the follow up on her leg surgery. this involves her getting put under. In this video, Scout also learns about flies I.E. flying raisins and Magnus and Scout enjoy some pasta.
I used to have a lovely greyhound that caught flies. We went camping by a river, and she made a nest for herself in the sand. She would be so still and dignified, but when one flew close, she would snap on it. I had her nine years and still miss her even though it's been a long time.
That was a great image! My first greyhound, 🍑Peaches 🍑, used to do that, too.

Hi Scout! Our hound Augie shattered his hock racing, went through surgery, rehab and returned to racing before coming into our home. One day while we were being filmed for a retired greyhound documentary, we went to a dog park to allow the crew to get video of Augie running full tilt. All went well and as we leaving the park, Augie stepped in a gopher hole. His poor hock refractured and there wasn’t enough stable bone to correct it. We ended up taking to one of the best Vet schools in the US at Auburn University since they had a greyhound specific program. They ended up casting his leg and we had to return to the Ortho every 2 weeks to recast it and keep his skin from breaking down. He was such a wonderful trooper with his cast. He was a huge 94lb tank of of a hound but would just roach with cast on the fireplace Hearth. He did beautifully and never needed a cone or collar. He went on to spend 6 more years in our home before he passed away at age 10. Up until the night he collapsed from a likely stroke, he was running happy laps in that leg. I’m thinking of Scout and your family and hope she has a similar recovery to Augie. Atticus Fetch sends his best wishes and appreciation to see another hound be so lovingly cared for!

Scout reminds me so much of our boy. We had him for almost 9 years until he went over the rainbow bridge. Not a day goes by that I don't miss him. I still can't even think of adopting another one right now. They really are special dogs that leave such marks on our hearts. Enjoy them. For now, I will enjoy watching your 2 on this channel. Thank you for always cheering up my days.

Hi Raymond! We love her to bits. She is such a sweetie. I keep imagining that she would have been such a good mama. She’s always looking after us all -cleaning our faces and making sure we are all following her when out on walks 🤗.
@@sarahgunn5560 ya she a little gem was gutted I could not bring her home after racing as my grey at home a gealous boy and its his home so would not be happy with another dog even tho him and lola were kennel with each other for a while he a funny boy miss her lots but glad she happy and I still get to see her video on here all my last 4 dogs that's been rehomed up in Scotland janis does a great job and its nice I can keep in touch with them all as I still miss all my greyhounds

Anaesthetic can have a different effect on greyhounds due to how they metabolise it and their low body fat. Glad she is back to her happy self and enjoying walks with Magnus.
P.s, my grandma came from Cowdenbeath.
Yes, I was just asking somebody if other the smaller sighthound breeds are even more sensitive to anesthesia; what do you think?

Awww what a sweet girl! When my boy, Gary, had to be put under for x rays, he was so disoriented, it broke my heart. I never put him under before, so it was nerve racking to say the least. Loved seeing this. I hope her leg recovers well 💛

you will be pleased I have two rescued greyhounds they are easy to live with two walks a day before food they lay down and have a sleep and every one loves them

I've had 2 whippets, am familiar with leg problems, and also with flycatching(!). And also with anesthesia problems. These dogs are so sweet! Best of luck!
I’ve always wondered if whippets are even more sensitive to anesthesia than greyhounds, being smaller; do you know? 🐾🐶❤️🐶🐾
@@GreyhoundHomecare I can't say in general, but my vets were very cautious about anesthesia. Yes, I remember the dogs being very groggy afterwards.
@@GreyhoundHomecare I know that my vets always took special care with the whippets re: anesthesia. And sometimes my dog definitely seemed out of it while recovering. Don't know more.

Glad young Scout has the all clear from the vet. My Bobby is just the same with pasta and gives me the "pasts! What pasta?" Look. They just sort of inhale it and wash the dish lol.

Poor Scout she was really wobbly, though she recovered really well and hoovered up the pasta. I really enjoy your videos they really capture the pooches personalities. Keep safe and enjoy the nice weather.

Scout is an amateur at cleaning plates compared with Magnus. He could do it in the Olympics.
Poor scout. Grey's are such a wonderful breed. I have never had such a wonderful dog as my Mindy.

So happy to hear that Scout is doing great!. I was so concerned with her after the sedation. I lost my grey 8 mths ago he did not make it through the dental procedure sedation it was an unexpected loss. Magnus and Scout are so beautiful and I enjoy the videos of their lives.

Great she recovered so quick, it can take days for them to recover from medications given from the vet especially anesthesia. My greyhound loves pasta, she also loves pizza she doesn't catch fly's but her litter sister did.
It was a tough time, but she got through it.

@@magnusgreyhound - I have a Welsh Pembroke Corgi 6YO as a rehome. She has been with us for 18 months now, and i take her back to the breeders and they are amazed at how she has blossomed into an independent adult. She is spoilt with food, plus she expects her walk and car ride in the evening before settling for bed at 8:30pm.
I too hope to adopt a greyhound once the lockdown is lifted. Really excited about giving a greyhound a loving home. I live in Merseyside and I am not far from Crosby beach. Lots of nice walks planned

GOOD Morning to Scotland, i am watching quite a while now...love Magnus he is such a Champ with a lovely Companion now......now 4 Weeks ago my Spanish Rescue Dog of 11 Years died, now i have considered another Rescue Project....a Greyhound 😇😇
I have to say watching your Vlog was part of the Decision as well....now we (Germany) get most of the Greyhounds from Irish Pounds or Rescues and i will choose my new lifetime Friend on Wednesday, i will pick him up from there 2.week in August....and have one week Vaccation first .....i am working 30 Hours a week so he will be alone for 6/7 Hours 5 Days....i am a bit afraid that there will be a Problem with Seperation Anxiety, would you have any Tips for the Training ?

Do greyhounds do well in flats, getting my own place soon and looking into a companion for myself but want to do the research first
They do well in flats. If you watch my earlier videos you can see Magnus living in the flat. did very well. no issues.
Can I ask do retired greyhounds need a big runaround each day like they were on the racetrack?
They do not need a run around each day. Usually once a week is plenty for Magnus and Scout. Most of the time they are happy with just walkies.
I usually do greyhound meetups once every week or so, should I do it less in the Winter, or the same amount?

How did Magnus handle Scout while she wasn’t herself?
Magnus did well handling Scout when she was recovering. Magnus is generally low key in the house except for when he is excited to go on a walk.
how you feed them?
I have made a few videos of feeding our greyhounds. you can find them on my channel. we feed them a raw diet. they get 2 pieces of chicken in the morning after their first walk and they get a meal close to 6pm in the evening.
