    Why yes, yes it is! I got my GLI S w DSG (in Silver) the Summer of 2019 and I love it. I did change out the tire/wheel combo for one-size-up Michelin summer tires, though. I agree virtually all the comments except the "soaking up of the road" part. I find the front suspension is very tight and jarring over bumps. The S does NOT have adaptive dampers that the Autobahn has (and the 35th Anniversary). Raiti seems to suggest that "even though in Sport mode" it soaks up the bumps. There is no suspension settings on the S.

  • @jjacob25101
    @jjacob25101 Před 4 lety +3

    With this latest rendering, the GLI finally has all the GTI performance of the GTI without compromise, or omissions. The previous GLIs always were a compromise of the GTI until now. It is great now, if only it did not have the faults, reliability, durability, longevity, and cheap material in many parts, even in many of the top luxury and performance makers. Sometimes design of specific parts are fine, but cheap materials make the fail. Worst case scenario is the substandard metal fasteners in US fighter planes not up to spec for the design, made in china that had structural failures in flight. Cheap plastic/other parts break, melts, stretch/deform or deteriorate.
    Many of these great cars are plagued with these problems, which flaw great cars like this.
    Which is sad, because I would want one of these GLIs, because it has almost everything I would want in a daily driver car. For this car, I would have to scrutinize the many different trims and versions. Even the new Toyota Supra just got recalled... By BMW for possible defective welds. Toyota to do inspections, and possible replacements with a new, corrected car. If you are not buying a new vehicle to keep as a collector's item, investment, and not intending to alter ir modify it, or thrash it, leasing may be a viable consideration. If major problems arise, you are not stuck with the car, or the problems with trying to sell it.
    If not for the above, I would a two thumbs up for many of these great cars, and would consider them myself. This would be one of them. I would otherwise seriously consider a new GLI over the Toyota and Hondas I am considering. But on the higher priced end, that BMW X4 M would be my dream car, with all the black trim.
    With that being said, spart from some of the older model performance variants of these VWs, I think this is the best of the best they have design wise, if not counting the simplicity and reliability of the old ones. A personal friend of mind here, very familiar with all the import cars, over the years, working on them, modifying them, and such, used to own a shop would not get one of these new ones, which is sad. But, compared to many other brands and models that are seriously iffy, I would still endorse this GLI over many other cars, but would not expect the longevity of several hundred thousand potential miles of the Hondas and Toyotas. But with a lease, this may be visble. If you have a business, and use this for your work transportation, this may be an option.

      @@MeltingRubberZ28 I would choose the 2.0L Civic Sport Sedan over the turbo now, but a Camry XSE over the Turbo Accord Sport 2.0T.
      The VWs would be better is still made in Germany, and not Mexico, and didn't scrimp with cheap plastic parts that even BMW and others now use. I wish everything were ideal and perfect. But automotive manufacturers are in business to make money for their transportation vehicles, performance is a marketing tool, often with caveats, trade offs. Cars like Jaguar and Range Rover are awesome, but flawed and problematic. Porsches repairs, parts and regular maintenance and servicing is likewise very high. Even people with big incomes get tired of paying all the money and the hassles of of constant breakdowns and repairs. I'm just telling it as it is. If you're an enthusiast, and have the the dinero, and willing to spend it, no one's twisting your arm not to. Toyotas and Hondas have a track record of lasting several hundred thousand miles with proper care and maintenance on certain models, but even now, maybe not as much as before. Volvos were like that, too, until more recently. My lady friend has a nice 2006 Volvo S6 that is still almost like new, but that was about when they were still really good.
      In general the BMWs and other similar makes made in Europe are generally better than their cars made in the US or Mexico, and Toyota and Hondas made in Japan, or the UK fir the Civic hatchbacks, and some other car brands made in Canada may in general be better than some made in the US, but there are several contributing factors for variance. Some of the problems with cars assembled in the US may be due to a high number of I different dgaf workers that may be drink, on drugs, or lacksdasial with their work.
      It's we, the consumers that need to be wary and do our research and use discernment to make the best decisions for what we need, want, and can afford.
      Before the I ternet, all we could rely on was word of .south, what the car magazines said, or new items in recalls, dangers, and such. Now we have so much info available, but still need to scrutinize between those unbiased, and those spi sored reviewed that may be conditioned what to relay. But even those good honest ones can give generally good feedback to help you confer your choices. Other than that, it's great to read and wat h I teresting, and sometimes amusing facts, and enjoy the eye and ear candy, knowing we get to go on virtual car shows and ride along for our enjoyment and have a free ride.
      Like I think I mentioned, some thi GS are just bad design, but for those problematic, cheap, breakable parts, I know a few companies in the aftermarket address that problem making more durable replacement parts for some of the common parts. My 1984 Buck GN T shift handle had cheap plastic inside the soft vinyl cover that broke inside and would wobble. A nice billet aluminum or carbon fiber or other composite replacement if the originsl, or nice customer one would be great.
      Sometimes what we see is what we get, but maybe we can find fixes and improvement to deal with them.
      There are certain car brands I would never buy, so e I might still be tempted to get. This GLI, maybe with a different trim was one I might still have gone with over a Honda or Toyota, it I would probably lease it if I did. A lady friend recently bought a new Jetta, I believe an SEL? She is an accountant, and used to have a BMW and went to a frugal Chevy Spark, and kept it as long as she could until she had to get rid of it and hot the Jetta. She doesn't thraahbit, and I am .o tutoring any car related post she gives me, as well as information abroad. I believe it should last her song time. But like I said, there are so many variables. At least we know what they are.

      @@user-iu7hj3vc6e I hear you. Besides a few factors, I still think this GLI in all it's variants, and the GTI, and new Jetta SEL my lady friend recently got is still a good buy, the other VW models not as much, with the information and feedback from reliable sources I have. But I would personally probably go with a Honda and Toyota. And I was raised as a diehard GM fan. No more, no matter how nice the are. I had my own problems, hassles and expenses. They are even worse than my last Chevy I got rid of. Nice cars, but not when they break down. Sometimes it's badicallybthe engine and transmission, or electrical and computer related things, other times, it's basically a bad car. And the disease is spreading to many other brands. Lots of brands tanked when bought out by other companies. So sad. If I had the time, energy, and resources, I would find a good used car and fix it up and update it with reliable aftermarket replacement and modern tech upgrades, and be a stealth car that blends in, but has most of the modern tech and creature comforts with decent performance, handling, reliability and durable dependability.

      @@SilverScarletSpider I don't necessarily disagree with you there. Honda do have very good manual transmissions but I still don't like the childish styling dropped in from the R that the SI has. If the SI looked more like the touring model with sporty cues here n there, I would definitely be more interested. IMO I think Honda would sell more of them. But I also think the ForteGT2 has a more premium feeling interior. I'm not saying it's luxurious, it just has a premium feel to it and let's not forget that crazy awesome warranty. All in all it seems to have a very well balanced package that may appeal to many buyers at the right price point, who don't have to settle for a crappy car.

      gentlemen begga Right on brother. The Kia Forte GT and Hyundai Elantra Sport both have amazing leather seats that you would almost expect to see in Kia Stingers and Acura ILX’s while the 10th Gen Civic Si’s cloth only seats are actually a bit of a downgrade compared to the older 9th and 8th generation Civic Si interior. Personally the new Civic’s looks grew on me, the hatchback is still a little too wild though. 10 year warranties are really awesome, but in my heart, Kia and Hyundai have yet to solidly demonstrate the ability to build a car that will 10/10 never see the dealership in 10 years, but to be fair, even Toyota and Honda are struggling a bit more compared to yesteryear in 2014.
