I'm sorry, but there's nothing modern about this. The 70s, 80s and 90s have other examples of socks that help in defense and attack. This thing about the modern player is a journalist's invention.

Rainer Bonhof was one of my favourite players for many reasons. I'm a German football fan since I was very young. I'm from Valencia, so he played for my hometown club and was lucky to see him play live on many ocassions. He was a complete midfielder.
