Ciri’s planning really lacked in this chapter. She just handed herself to Vilgefortz. An amazing spoiler that the Netflix series spoiled the emperor’s Identity at the end of season two, but the book version doesn’t reveal until the end of the books. Makes a bit of sense. Since the books have had scenes with the emperor being seen.
This was a brutal chapter. Something I did notice. All out side characters get an anime style death, where we see some sympathies event from their past immediately before their deaths. I can see what Regis didn’t go with Ciri. Her fight with Bonehart wouldn’t have been much of a threat against a vampire present. Best deaths were of Bonehart and Vilgefortz.
How all these events closes confuses the hell out of me. Emhyr started plot that killed his wife then a war that’s killed hundreds of thousands. Talked about his ‘divine’ (gross) purpose that will save the world, then just changes his mind because Ciri is sad. Huh? Yen and Geralt were just going to passively capitulate? He just let’s them all go. Feels really anti-climatic.

Vilgefortz is a piece of work, isn't he? I do like that ''now you have pissed into a hurricane'' line, though, it's pretty badass.

Definitely a weird twist that Emhyr ends up just letting Ciri go after everything. I think it was clever the author brings back destiny before this happens tho, “It’s a strange thing destiny, farewell, my daughter.” I believe this shows destiny doesn’t always make sense, but is inevitable. Duny insisted way back that he must repay his debt to Geralt to continue his new life, and obviously the law of surprise Geralt then agrees to, becomes Ciri. I think he was so set in the prophecy and saving the world that he would do anything to accomplish this, even taking advantage of destiny… or at least thought he would. Then when he saw his own daughter in front of him, broken down in tears over Geralt and Yennefer, The guilt over came him. The same guilt that made him weak with false Ciri, I think he felt bad for her situation but saw similarities in her appearance, that may have guided his judgment in past chapters. He also mentioned feeling bad for Pavetta as well, so it shows he can be vulnerable in rare times, for certain people. Again, revealing how strange a thing destiny can be.

Regis didn't die though! Only a higher vampire can kill another higher vampire

That's not stated anywhere in the books. But the little bit of ambiguity around his death (demonstrated by a scene in chapter 12) can allow the reader to interpret, if they would like to, that he didn't really die. And I'm down for that interpretation lol because Regis was such a great character!

Regis was chopped up once in the past and survived. Think that’s what they mean about higher vampires killing. That regeneration is possible from mortal weapons but requires some of the body being intact. Regis was totally melted down this chapter. No material to regenerate from.
