- Once a meathead, always a meathead? Well, if you ask Fox News, Rob Reiner is more of a meathead than ever, spewing out his political diatribes and pushing an ultra-liberal agenda devouring anything and everything that is not left of center. And if you ask baby boomers, Reiner will always be Meathead with a capital M, his beloved character from ALL IN THE FAMILY. And if you ask a film connoisseur, they will say that Rob Reiner is a filmmaker who gave us some of the best flicks ever….until he didn’t. But, really, Rob Reiner - now nearly 60 years in the business - is an extension of both of these. Yes, he spends more time on REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER than he does working on genre-defining scripts but he has solidified his career enough with classics like THIS IS SPINAL TAP, STAND BY ME, WHEN HARRY MET SALLY, THE PRINCESS BRIDE, and MISERY that it almost doesn’t matter how much money-losing crap he puts out now…and there is a lot of it…and NORTH isn’t even the worst of it! So how did this man go from making a few great movies to defining and elevating our pop culture on so many different levels to suddenly pumping out nothing but heartless, soulless political garbage and rom-coms that are neither romantic nor comedic? So did this jack of all genres become a master of none? So let’s find out: WTF Happened to…ROB REINER?

I will always admire Rob Reiner. He is an amazingly creative and caring human being, unlike the majority of people in the comment section.
His Dad was no slouch either. Carl Reiner was one of the warmest and most charming people I've had the honor to meet :))

Rob Reiner really lost his touch. I liked Bucket List, but his early films were so highly acclaimed like Spinal Tap, Sure Thing, Stand By Me, Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, Few Good Men, and American President.

I also met Carl, a genius of comedy. "The Jerk" and "All of Me" are absolutly brilliant. Also he was one of the kindest and most innovative artists I've ever met.

That Michael Douglas movie from 1995 was one of my favourites comedies of the 90s. Really underrated solid political comedy flick
I know that 'A Few Good Men" is regarded as a good movie, but to me it's just two hours of people talking. Just can't get into it.

"North" is one of the most baffling movies I've ever seen. I'll never forget the night I watched it. I was like "What even is this, lol?!".

The question is who keeps financing his flops? His films haven't grossed more than flies in decades. When you can't drive anymore at some point someone has to take the keys away.
I am hoping for a day where our entertainment doesn’t feel the need to portray a specific political agenda and just be, well…entertaining! I actually mostly agree with his views and I don’t want to see the political movies, we get enough of that every day. I know the concept is not new (watch anything with John Wayne) but it seems to be so pervasive right now.

Given the fullness of time, every director loses their magic touch with audiences. But if you have enough good will in the bank, you can go on to make the movies that are important to you. I would argue that's the stage Steven Spielberg is at now.

We wrapped Spinal Tap 2 a few weeks back. I've done Rob's last 3 movies and I'd lost my grandpa a good while back and Rob took over that role. Love him, his family and his kids. He treats/makes you family. And I'm sorry we let ya down on LBJ

Not a fan. However, All in the Family is one of the best sitcoms ever constructed. Was my grandparents favorite show & I see why. It's the kind of comedy that nobody today would touch with a 10 foot pole.

You’re wrong about Flipped. It’s the last great movie he made (An excellent adaptation of an excellent young adult novel), and the only reason it bombed was because Warner Bros. messed with the release, choosing to platform it at the last moment without warning by opening it limited first. When it went wide two weeks later, no one even knew it was out, and everyone missed out.
Its ok to make political films, they just have to be good films.

It didn't take very long in the first season of "All in the Family" to peg Meathead for the parasite leach that he was. Archie Bunker became the star of the show and not Rob. As a person good movie director, but bat guano crazy.

All in the family came from an english tv show called till death us do part tv show, so was sanford & son that came from steptoe & son which are superior tv shows IMO.
meathead was a good character. Stand By Me was an awesome movie. Andre the Giant really valued his role in his film to the point of sometimes forcing other wrestlers to watch it with him over and over again, so good on that one, anything else including his personal life, character, and politics is low-quality low-resolution, low resonance thinking very cringe to me this guy has issues.

@@TamESQ kinda, yeah. When they bring politics into whatever they're doing they pretty much lose half their audience. That's why Hollywood is suffering so much now. Not too many want to be preached at when they go to be entertained. Having a message in movies and TV is fine, it's the basis of pretty much everything, but we're tired of THE MESSAGE.

No. Rob Reiner is not on the left. He’s just a liberal - a moderate conservative if anything. You wont find him criticizing Israel or defending Palestinians nor will you find him criticizing capitalism etc.
