Thank you for all of the love on this video; I had no idea so many people would find this helpful. My plan is to make an updated captioning video, but in the mean time, we do have a discord to help people with editing and content creation. After 4 years of working in Davinci I'm almost not scared by fusion...
hahaha well, that's fair enough
I'm new to Davinci and I can't even figure out how to edit the text on the fusion page. It just won't let me change anything but the timeline.
too real
@@x8den22I'm new to Davinci and I can't even figure out how to edit the text on the edition page 🤣🤣
fun fact Im new to it but have some computer science experience and its basically scratch coding, so yall are learning coding!
You know how many times I googled "davinci resolve animate text" in various forms to only keep getting the dynamic zoom - you sir are a scholar and a gent
I am not scared of the fusion page
I've been learning Davinci from youtube and chagpt this whole month and honestly your channel is the best I've found so far. Thank you!
I watch this video twice a week now...
that makes my heart happy
@@itstheWampus it’s so useful and easy to understand. Every time I forget how to smooth out my pops I come back here 😂😂
Another thing I recommend for pop effect is 1st frame do half of your desired amount like 0.04 and go 1 frame add 0.01 to desired amount which is 0.09, then go 6 frames do 0.08 the desired amount. Add motion blur to 7-8. Smooth out in fusion by selecting all. It is what I see some youtubers do in their videos.
Just watched my first taste of your teaching style, love it. You explain things really clearly. I have subscribed. More mograph VODs please.
As I'm watching this, I find myself wishing I had watched it yesterday... Great Stuff. I appreciate these how-tos.
at around 3 minutes when he does the fusion step, my text doesnt move at in this feature, like in editting mode it works how it should but fusion it doesnt move and i can make the changes he shows in the video. any solution? (spline also doesnt show up)
Ohh, this is very useful. I didn't know about using the spline to smooth things out, this is awesome!
Thanks so much for showing how to do these animations! I'm saving them to my Davinci Resolve immediately! Btw I looked up the Alex Tech guy you mentioned in one of your YT Shorts. I've learned a lot from watching him. So thanks for shouting him out, too!
yeah that man is a treasure, appreciate the love on the video!
Fusion page is not boring, I love it.
This was genuinely an amazing tutorial about text animation and I'm defiantly going to be using this in my next video.
this was awesome! thank you so much for the help! i will be watching this approximately 6 more times before i feel safe enough to click on the fusion tab XD
Thanks from Colombia, im working in a hospital right now and this is pretty good way to start in fusion.
a few days since i started using resolve and having experience with Blender 3D i find fusion fun. Great tutorial
I've been looking for exactly this video! Just something to explain and familiarize me with the basic tools. Thanks!

This helped me a lot, thanks!
This was super helpful! Thanks 🙌
Thank you! How would you make the text look like it’s being typed as the viewer watches? So each word or letter would appear on screen one after another?
Thank you man gonna incorporate this in my tiktok intro'S !
Hey is there a way to save this as a preset for using in multiple projects? - I write as I see the popup for how to do that
Awesome video!
you helped me so much with mine stuff, thanks!
HI there Can we Save the Animations and use it as an overlay on another edit?

For some reason my keyframes no longer show up in the fusion tab?
Thanks partner, it was very helpful!
Would you recommend paying for the studio version for the auto subtitles? Not sure how good it is for short form video?
Video is nice and easy to follow respects my brother keep it up

I'd like to try it now
I cant figure out why my effect goes slow... i thought i had everything at 60 fps so im not sure why its different..

Thanks dude!
im not scared of the fusion page, im terrified of it
AWESOME VIDEO BRO I SUBBED UP🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
appreciate you
I’m not scared of the fusion page!
So how do you click to add a keyframe 8 times? Like, what button is it?
I don't know if there is a keybind shortcut to add a key frame, but you can open your spline window and click on your curve on the 8 locations you want to add a key frame, of scrub to the frame you want a key frame and click the diamond button
Thanks
U welcome ❤️
useful,thanks a lot
Thx!
How to make macro of this and use it in the fusion page on any object or any other text?
I made a video on saving your text as a preset, I believe there is a link in the description for ya!
More, please!👍💪👏😂♥️
thanks for this man! just a question, do you know if the fusion edits would work in the subtitles produced by davinci's studio transcribe option?
Unfortunately, no. Converting subtitles to text+ is something a lot of creators seem to struggle with. There are some ways to do conversions if you search around
This was really helpfull also I just started using Davinci to edit my own videos but how do i blur the background and keep the text without it getting blurred out?
In Fusion? Or on the Edit Page?
In fusion, add whatever Blur node you'd like into your pipeline, and just make sure your Text+ Node is merged AFTER the blurred background.
On the Edit page, either apply a Gaussian, Lens, etc Blur from the Effects tab directly to your background, or use an adjustment clip.
If you still have more questions, pop into the discord and we can help you out 👍
@@itstheWampus Thank you very much. this was very helpful information❤️
Wampus, how do you do that moving paper effect on the side of the screen at beginning of video?
I think I got the moving background from Cinepacks, if you Google them and free paper transitions, you should find it
Nice
AFTER ADDING TEXT+ whats that pink coloured box underneath the text+ box? you didn't mention that as a step by step bro instead you went straight into editing. Please let us know by your reply
It's a background, it just adds the color behind the text 👍
what is the name of this moving paper effect at the beginning of the video
Hmmm, I don't know if it has a name, but all I did was take some stock images of crumpled paper, spaced them 10 frames apart and repeated the loop!
When I switch over to the Fusion page, I can't see any of the motion I created on the edit page. On the Fusion page, all I see is the text I typed without motion. The Template and MediaOut nodes are connected and set up probably so that I can see them in the viewer windows. Do you know what might be going on? Thanks in advance!
Hey Juan! If I'm reading this right, you did some keyframing on the Edit Page, but then it didn't translate to the Fusion tab when you swapped over? I would double check that you're opening the right clip, in Fusion.
Sometimes when you tab into the Fusion page, it'll bring you in with a different clip. You can right click on your Text+ clip on the Edit Page and hit "Open in Fusion" to double check. The only reason I say that is because the Text+ node is setup to translate from Edit to -> Fusion, so if things aren't translating, then I'm not sure what the problem might be :/
@@itstheWampus Hey Wampus! Thank you for your reply. I don't know what the issue was but restarting the program fixed it. Resolve has been acting buggy on my pc so I might reinstall it.
How do I edit the text on the Edit tab for the text+ cause it won't let me do anything unless I am in the fusion tab and that makes it problematic.
Hmmm, if you start with a text+ title on the edit page, and then make changes in the fusion page, you should be able to still edit the text on the edit page.
If you add a text node within fusion, separate from the existing template node, you won't be able to edit the characters in the edit page.
So apparently when you save the text+ and try to use it as a fusion title it doesn't allow you to change it anymore which really sucks.@@itstheWampus
Wampus i have question how to text edit in fusion page with footage on so i cant timing my text without original footage
Add a media in node onto the fusion page, and then swap the "timeline" property to "background", if you connect that in your node tree, you should be able to see what's on the edit page
@itstheWampus thank you i'll try
@8:20 the fact that in the Fusion page ALT+scroll wheel pans and CTRL+scroll wheel zooms in/out annoys me SOOO much in comparison to the Edit page
Any advice on how the text would fly in from far away and get larger, like Superman intro?!? Thanks in advance! 🙌
you could either use a 3D Camera and actually have the text fly in from fair away and come in close, or you would just need to start your text out small, and keyframe it so that flys into the center and gets bigger. The trick would be too smooth out your spline curves so that it looks how you'd like
my key frames don’t show up and i can’t do zoom to fit, also the text size doesn’t show up either
i have the same issue, did you figure out how to get the key frames to show up?
How to keep fit when we stretch the clip…?
Theirs a couple of ways you could do that.
1. You would need to readjust your key frames using the spline window or keyframe window. You could do this by hand or use the "Time Stretch" tool. I'd recommend using the Time Stretch tool.
2. Look into Anim Curves. This is a little more advanced option, but it'll make your text nodes more dynamic. In essence, they will animate things based off the duration of the clip instead of an individual frame. Patrick Stirling has a great video explaining them in more detail
How do you add stroke and drop shadow to text+? I know how to on text but I couldn't find it on text+
It'll be in the "Shading" tab of your title settings. Element 1 will be your primary font settings. Element 2 is the outline. Element 3 is your shadow. You can customize these too look/behave however you'd like, but by default, that's where those options live!
@@itstheWampus Ok thanks! Btw I just recently found your channel and it is really good!
@@cub0id appreciate you
0:03 wanted to ask what this element is called that just swiped from left to right and how to make it in da vinci resolve
This is a paper animation that I believe I got from Cinepacks
@@itstheWampus Which pack is it?
How do I choose with part of the text to color differently? Ex: "Hello World" Hello in white and world in yellow

How you got that twin coloured background 😢
It's a generator in your effects tab! "Four color gradient"
Tnx
I need to learn the zoom in and back out thing you are doing on your tutorial
Do a quick search for "Magic Animate" by MrAlexTech. Will change your life
@@itstheWampus thank you will try it out
Thank you for this tutorial. I've used Adobe AE for around 15 years and I'm boldly switching to resolve. A lot of it makes sense but I'm really seeking 'best practices' from other creators.
Can I (annoyingly) ask questions about the tutorial video that aren't related to text animation haha? if you have tuts on these just point me!
The keyframe motion graphics at the start (is that a fusion composition, or an mp4 layered over?). If it's a composition, is that much work or is it possible to whip something like that up fast once you know how?
The zooming into parts of the screen (are you using adjustment layers, or precomposing and scaling, or ken burns, or what?)
The callout for the picture in picture (rounded edges, the drop shadow)
Its not that I don't know how to achieve these things, just seeking wisdom from someone who might be doing it more efficiently!
haha you may ask away! Welcome to team Davinci.
1. If you're referring to the paper tear graphic, that is a masked out mp4. Although, it is very easy to do something similar in Fusion once you get comfortable.
2. You can keyframe your zooms with adjustment layers, but I would highly recommend doing a youtube search for MrAlexTech's Magic Zoom. He has a couple of incredible, free plugins for davinci resolve, one of them is called magic zoom and all it does is drag and drop zoom effects (i do normally apply the Magic Zoom to an adjustment layer)
3. There are a few ways to do rounded edges and drop shadows, either on the edit page or fusion. Edit page is probably the easiest, go to your OpenFX tab and search for "Transform". This will give you some new transform options, one of them will be "Edge Rounding". You can also then search for Drop Shadow and slap that sucker on.
What you'll probably come to find, is that there are some band-aid type FX and controls on the edit page that will get the job done, but when you want to something with more control, you'll need to go into Fusion. Fusion takes a day or two to get used to, but once you do, it is so incredibly powerful. Not quite on AE's level, but pretty dam close
@@itstheWampus Thanks so much for that, much appreciate it.
1- I should have been more specific sorry, it's at 0:30 with the animated vector graphics that represent the four keyframes. I was curious if that is a fusion comp and if so, is that kind of thing painless to set up (e.g. sub 10 mins) once you know what you're doing. Do you have a tutorial that might be relevant?
2 - That is great. Definitely just the kind of shortcut I was looking for I will check it out! I feel confident I'll soon have a bunch of my own in fusion!
3 - That is very convenient thanks. I'm finding resolve is an 'easy when you know where to go' kind of tool, moreso than Adobe AE which for me was almost instinct, I understood keyframes, expressions and effects and from there I had the building blocks of the universe to do what I wanted.
I appreciate those insights regarding edit page v fusion and your general approach, it makes sense. I think I'm being a little impatient with the learning process, I feel quite desperate to quickly get back up to speed. Honestly, as a video idea, the very best tutorial for me and maybe others doing a switch from Adobe AE would be the most broad video, like simply watching a video of someone EDITING a video similar to this tutorial (ironically) and how they piece together the visual elements. Sure, it wouldn't branch into what every option does but I never cared much for that kind of tutorial as much as ones that push people in the right direction of best practice and to anticipate any common pesky 'gotcha's' that the video happens to naturally segue into. I owe you one and for now I'll pay up with a subscription! thanks again.
EDIT - I just found this on your channel, so all good! 💪czcams.com/video/Y7M6z4WN27g/video.html
Ahhhh I gotcha! Yes that's a fusion comp, and it's fairly painless once your familiar with the fusion page.
I would say generally speaking, Fusion can do everything that you would want to do in AE (i.e. motion graphic, 3D camera movements, tracking, comping, etc. etc.), but it might not have that certain plugin yet that makes life easy in AE.
It's getting there though. The Resolve community is really strong, and Blackmagic Design does an amazing job of updating the software. "Easy when you know where to go" is the best description of DaVinci I've heard lol, but! coming from AE you'll already be familiar with the concepts you'll need to apply
Thank you so much for supporting the channel
@@itstheWampus nice, that's good to know its a fusion comp.
I've been using DR for a couple projects and it keeps becoming more familiar so it'll all be good. I'm finding keyframe manipulation fiddly compared to AE (the timeline editing in particular) but after watching how you use the spline editor, I can see how much easier that is. Actually, I'm wondering how to sync with audio without having to jump back and forth between fusion and edit - fusion ought to have an option to sync timeline audio into the player. I might struggle working around that.
I like nodes. I got into nodes with Unreal Engine 5. I agree that fusion seems capable of matching AE with perhaps a couple drawbacks, mainly those missing go-to plugins (particle effects), but I can feel the community power. It'll be developed further, it'll be fine!
so when i put my text in, in like made my audio messed up? please help
Hmmm, I'm not quite sure how something like that would mess up your audio. The only thing I could think of would be to try and clear your caches
@@itstheWampus thanks man, that didn’t work so i just restarted. it works now!
@ 00:08-00:09 what do you call that is that like a dynamic zoom or what that was dope i would love to learn that
That's the tracker node in Fusion! Go into the Fusion page -> add a Tracker Node -> Track your face or object -> then i believe you go to the Operations Tab -> Match Move -> FG Only
@@itstheWampus thank you so much fam
thx
