Richard Thompson’s guitar playing is extraordinary. Acoustic or electric he is the master.
That is correct. 60 years late, but corrrect.
Saw him a couple of months ago (doing pretty much the same set); just amazing. At 74 his voice is still strong and his playing as impressive as ever. If he is ever playing in (or near) your town DO NOT miss the opportunity to see this remarkable musician perform.
@keithbird8910 - saw him at Brighton Dome a few months ago and when we got up to leave the woman behind said "Wow, he sounds like he's playing three guitars not one". As you say, as impressive as ever - just wish I could see him with the band again.
The first song ,he come out swinging,the crowd is KO'd in the 2nd minute of the 1st round! Your Champion with the Black Beret growing on his head where hair shoulda Been! RICHARD FRIGEN THOMPSON!!! I love every song ive ever heard the man play!
He is the Man.
My Father got me interested in Fairport Convention many years ago, thanks Dad. He thought Sandy Denny had the voice of an Angel so we had one of her best and his favourites played at his funeral, "who knows where the time goes". It makes me smile when I hear it now with happy thoughts of my old Dad. God rest his soul.
For anyone who has not heard Richard Thompsons solo work, the " Acoustic Classics" album is a great place to start.
Great to read all the comments, glad to see people feel the same way about Richard as I di. I've seen him live about a half dozen times, every time was extraordinary. His guitar playing, acoustic or electric, is breathtaking. 1952 Vincent Black Lightning may be my favorite song ever by anybody! Met him by chance at a shop in Malibu, Calif., nobody there knew who he was, except me. He was gracious and kind when I told him how much I loved his music.
He's a treasure.

I saw him twice in intimate settings back in the day. The best singer guitarist I’ve seen by far. He’s still got it even in old age.

Saw him last winter in NYC, an all request concert. He could play anything! I thought it was all request RT, but no, people requested all kinds of songs from all kinds of musicians. He could play most and gave his usual rye reasons for not playing some songs. He’s a master.
I wouldn't want to see him do covers his original material is better than most covers he could play.
He is really brilliant

i've never heard his voice as strong since the 60s.
Love the opening! I think it was just over 35 years ago that we first saw Richard, doing an acoustic tour and opening his set with this song off his recently released album. It was a revelation. We wanted to stay for the second show, but had driven quite a ways on a night with freezing rain forecast.
I recently broke an A string as good as elixir strings are they do break often. Anyway its amazing how important that 5th string is. Couldn’t really play anything. Richard is absolutely amazing acoustic live. Electric too but his solo acoustic shows are very special
RT is fantastic by himself or as part of his trio. Magical and unique!
