Mojang project lead: We need an image. Nothing fancy, just an icon for a default resource pack. Go ahead and load up a random world, find a nice-looking view, and take a screenshot.
Minecraft community: Right, so if we're gonna find this thing, we need to design new seed-cracking algorithms and hook up 3,500 GPUs, but it'll be worth it to find this default image that Mojang probably took 30 seconds to make.
They are probably seriously worried about the mental health of their community, and I love it.
I remember being a child and loading up a Minecraft world, seeing a hill and getting excited I found the hill in pack.png. I never succeeded, but I'm glad others do now.

I just generated the world for myself right now.
When I came across a hill and saw the famed mountain of my memories... I was overwhelmed. I genuinely feel so moved, so emotional.

I found three herobrine crosses, a scenery that looks like the actual Garden Of Eden, A great island for a cave base, A dungeon inside pack.png and a dungeon under that, a secret jacuzzi, a lake that looks like a tinfoil hat and another lake thats shaped like the silhouette of Jesus Christ

It’s subtle but I like the title saying “here’s how *they* did it”, as opposed to “we”. Unlike some channels basically claiming that they’re involved in sh!t they’re nowhere near.

I think it's multidisciplinary with computer engineering and applied (pure) math, not cryptography pure per se?

A lot of stuff (pattern matching, algorithm analysis, pRNG analysis, etc) can probably be translated into the crypto field, specifically for strengthening algorithms and weakness detection, (if not directly for making crypto algorithms themselves, that's usually more pure math (finite fields, ecliptic curves, number theory, etc))
