• AMAZING KOLKATA Food S...
This episode is about the food tour in South Kolkata in and around Gariahat and Deshapriya Park. The area being a famous shopping destination in the city, it attracts a lot of crowds. And where there are people there is food that is delicious, affordable and that provides a quick relief from the hunger pangs. Undoubtedly the place has a plethora of snacking options. And as usual we are in search of some of the most popular eateries over here that have been delighting the foodies for a long time. We are glad to have Sachika with us who would be walking us through the lanes and thoroughfares introducing us to eclectic street food fares in the locality.
Our first stop in this part of South Kolkata was Balaram Mullick which is one of the city's most reputed sweet shops. The huge variety of sweets over here was a testimony to the Bengali's never ending love for sweets. The mind blowing variety just blew our mind and taking the owners recommendations into account we settled for baked rasogolla, baked mihidana, patishapta, gurer kanchgolla, gurer rasogolla and monohara. The sweets available in Bengal during the winter months are deemed special and are much coveted. It's because most of them are made with the winter special date palm jaggery that is prized for its uniquely pleasant taste and aroma. All the sweets mentioned above were made with this nolen gur and their taste was just phenomenal.
After that sweet overdose it was time for some savoury snacks. For this we arrived at one of the two immensely popular snack shops named Maharaj and Maharani. Situated close to each other they had started out as one shop, but are now operating separately. Their menus were almost the same but according to the public each specialised in different dishes. Maharaj excelled in Hinger Kochuri and Aloor Tarkari while Maharani's best selling dish was Shinghara.
Fish being a staple of the Bengali cuisine, it also comes in the form of an irresistible snack called the fish finger. Our destination for the same was Shankar's fry. Their yummy Bhetki fritter with its crisp, grainy exterior and the soft fleshy interior was such a piece of sheer joy.
Finally it was time to end the food tour with another ubiquitous snack called puchka. Sachika took us to her favourite vendor in this part of the city. It's Bengali version of Pani Puri. The stuffing and the water is quite distinct from the North Indian counterpart. The puchkas were simply addictive while the churmur was such a fun treat. With this we wrapped up another gratifying eating spree in the city of joy. See you soon with many other surprises. Till then keep walking and keep exploring.

The singaras I see/had in Kolkata city have some North Indian influence, but the singaras in villages outside city is what I called a typical Bengali singara , specially the one in winter with cauliflowers.
Just my opinion.🙏😊
U must try maharani's singhara once mate...i m a resident of south kolkata myself..and has been feasting on their food for quite long

Dear Anubhav, as a foodie hailing from Delhi, you should have known that “aalu & kachalu are two different root vegetables. If you haven’t come across kachalu, come to old Delhi and ask any chaatwala.
dinesh badopalia dear Dinesh, I know kachalu very well. I was talking about the dish. In Bihar, the dish is known as aloo cut / aloo kachalu. In Bengal, it is aloo kabuli. One dish many names!!
I'm Bengali from Kolkata but settled in Mumbai. Now a days when I go Kolkata, I don't get good Puchka as I used to get in my childhood. If you please give me the location of this Puchka stall; I'll try in my next trip to Kolkata. The Bihari Puchkawala & Alukabliwalas are always best & awesome.
We can head for Murlidhar College, Garihat. Near the DCM showroom, one more near Lake Kali Bari....Bilash!!

Very Nice !! It feels so Good to see that present generations are still keeping the authentic name and quality of Food found in these 100 plus year old Shops which is very rare to find these days .

Corona is keeping me away from such amazing food at my sasural Kolkata. While I’m recovering from nasty COVID, this video gives me hope.
One of the most interesting episodes, which covered the local delicacies very well. I am also originally from Bihar and have gone to your birth place three decades back. Great to see you traveling all around the country and hope you can go back to this state too in the coming time.
Simply superb. Phuchka, fish fry , fish finger.... I feel like rushing back to Kolkata. I hope you are enjoying your stint in Kolkata as much as we are enjoying watching it. Do explore outskirts of kolkata also which is equally beautiful. Thank you for this lovely episode.
Thanks for coming in Kolkata and showing our local delicacies 👍😋
Loved this episode as it took me back to my birthplace. We are ancestrally from mithlanchal but born and brought up in SoCal. I grew up eating and hanging out at all these places and many more. I used to hang out every evening at Maharani before the brothers split. Please do try and hit up Bachan Singh ka dhaba at Rashbehari Mor (intersection) and do try their "anda tarka fry" - everytime i visit India, i always eat there. Its been around for at least 70-80 years if not 100. You will not be disappointed.
Abhinav is a real gentleman, give respect to get respect.......you ROCK, next time when you go to Kolkata, try the best fish fry in town, Apanjon in Hazra....
No one can beat Kolkata in street food 🔥🔥🔥🔥😍😍😍😍
Maharani is the shop where I spent most of my teenage years ...with friends, chai and sutta !!!
Oh, Kolkata! Awesome!
Great video n the girl is really good. She has a vry good knowlege abt food.I found her presentation much better thn the other girl
I hope one day i will be there to try those food.. ❤️
J. Kitchenette atbp. Kolkata is the ultimate foodie city. The no 1 priority of people there is food. While having dinner they discuss what they will have fir breakfast and lunch next day. Food, esp the price of fish is the main topic of conversation, followed by politics and sport.
Price of fish is main topic...Ha ha ha...
Finally a genuine food blogger who found a good genuine food blogger who toured, allowed and explained the host rather than the in-genuine food gobbler from the Chinese video
Very rich subject matter, also the guide knows food zones in great detail. I live in south kolkata and even i didn't know such places exist. Your video contents are way better better than Veggie Paji
Good to know that you also from Bihar after all you know much more about Bihar & mentioned it in almost your videos.
I'm also from muzaffarpur,bihar
Bengali preparation of Singhara different and even better ! Peanuts are added in its preparation and comparatively less spicy 🌶 and oily !
Now I am addicted to this channel!

If you come to Dhaka then you will find almost the same kind of or same type of or same taste of Misty (Local Sweets), Singara, Fuchka with little bit of modern fusion. After my city Dhaka, I really love the Kolkata city a lot, because of the similarities we have between the Bangalies. But our Kacchi Biriyani is bit different than the Kolkata's Kacchi Biriyani. But I enjoy both the taste. Whenever I visit Kolkata "Arsalan" is must go to place for me.
