  • John Howard Carpenter (born January 16, 1948) is an American film director, screenwriter, producer, editor and composer. Although Carpenter has worked in numerous film genres, he is most commonly associated with horror and science fiction films from the 1970s and 1980s.
Most films in Carpenter's career were critical and commercial failures, with the notable exceptions of Halloween (1978), Escape from New York (1981) and Starman (1984). However, many of Carpenter's films from the 1970s and the 1980s such as Dark Star (1974), Assault on Precinct 13 (1976), The Fog (1980), The Thing (1982), Christine (1983), Big Trouble in Little China (1986), Prince of Darkness (1987) and They Live (1988) have since been seen as cult classics, and Carpenter has been acknowledged as an influential filmmaker.

At last -- an intelligent, clued-up interviewer! Carpenter actually seems to enjoy the process, and we get a glimpse into the mindset of a truly brilliant film director. Mission accomplished.

William R I noticed he was enjoying the interview as well. You can tell when he’s annoyed in interviews. When he’s tired of the same questions from people who really don’t know his history. It’s fun to watch him answering questions he respects.

Amdy, yes, he is so down to earth and very, very humble. I am a true fan of this man ever since Halloween

+David Imrie Agreed... and it's easy to forget, with all the copycat and rip offs and remakes of what he did with Halloween, that he was just winging that mutha, defining a genre... supremely creative.... and yeah, I agree with the other posters, just an all round down to earth bonafide genius. John Carpenter and Wes Craven. I hold them both in equally high esteem. R.I.P. Wes...

+arupian666 I like that. He was winging that mutha. But he created a classic film and the man definitely has a firm grasp on the genre.

My all time favorite director. The feel, the atmosphere of his films is unmatched. Halloween, Assault On Precinct 13, The Fog, The Thing, They Live, Big Trouble In Little China, EFNY/LA, Into The Mouth Of Madness, Vampires, Christine etc .......what a resume ! his films are very addictive.
I also noticed he has a ton of "UFO" books in the background. Can't say I'm extremely surprised lol

I grew up watching John Carpenter's movies on Home Video. His films mean so much to me, especially Escape From New York and The Thing, Big Trouble In Little China and They Live. His music is amazing too, such a great composer and Master of the synthesizer. Great interview! 👌📽

no, he knows...he is one "of them", installed as a predictive programmer by his wife (he related to her during the shooting of They Live), a hardcore Great Reset , climate change , Agenda 201 , NWO etc propaganda fetishist. Her comic books are filled with an unbelievable amount of illuminati symbolism , and NWO propaganda . I wonder why nobody noticed this
