    Welcome to Maya!
Maya is a beautiful (and frustrating) world where you can do anything you put your mind to. Today, we're going to learn how to animate textures using Maya's set driven keys!
If you have any questions or get stuck, let me know in the comments below & I will do my best to help you!

    What textures have YOU animated?

      Ha! Hahaha errm yeah :)
Thats how I do my faces, too :)
      Other question:
"Remember to always use a reference" - could you elaborate? :)
      Thanks❤

      Sure!
I made it the channel's slogan because no creation is 'original'. We are limited by our world, and our understanding of it. And because of these limitations, we naturally try to make connections with everything that we see. So even if we are creating something that doesn't exist in our world, drawing inspiration from things that do exist will help your audience connect with it on a personal level.
This applies to all aspects of art, but doubly so with animation. We can't perfectly replicate movements from memory and need to see it in motion to truly capture the essence of the movement. This doesn't always mean watching reference footage though, sometimes just sitting at your desk and moving your arm to see how it bends is all you need.
That was a lot of words, so here's the short answer:
      Animation without reference = jank

  • @VYKco

is there a way to do this by moving the UV of the mesh? I want to do something like this for multiple characters in my game but i don't want to use up so much of the players performance doing so many draw calls for so many individual texture files for each and every character

Can you make a video on how to do this but with animatable irises?
For example, eyes of characters in games like "A Hat In Time", "Billie Bust Up" and "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess"
So the eyelid is a sprite sequence, but the iris is a texture that is animatable using bones/armatures
