I had a stroke on February 1st. I'm in a rehab facility now. I'm kinda walking and the right arm is coming back slowly. I enjoy the videos as it gives me incentive to get back to the shop. Thank you .

I had a stroke 3 years ago. The use of the arm will come back just make yourself use it. It gets very frustrating but don't give up.

It's very fitting that the man who is an absolute wizard with engines is named Merlin 🙌
I know that these videos have been filmed over a period of time but the Buggies are coming together pretty quickly and it's looking like everyone is going to be having fun at Merlin's birthday bash. Retired tech, spent 42 years working on and repairing what became the computer operated car, my hobby cars were a sand rail and dune buggy both VW powered, so simple in design, easy to repair, a great past time for a tech to regain his sanity.
That blue makes the frame POP! Brad u do some great work. Hand throttle, it out if all else fails what I've always said. Cool video Merlin.
Glamis is shaping up to be quite the event Merlin.! All of those buggies are coming together nicely. It’s amazing how they have multiplied in your shop….haha. Brad’s rail is sharp and sounds great.! Good job fellas.!

It's awesome to see you guys all working on these Dune Buggies for Merlin's double nickel birthday. Looks like you're all working really hard to get these buggies going, and it looks like a lot of fun. I live in Canada, but I look forward to watching it on CZcams when that day comes.

Back in 1966 my VW dropped a valve and the Dealer said I needed a new engine, I didn't have the funds, so my friend and I took the engine apart and got a new valve $38.00 put it in, ran like a top, love watching you and brings back alot of good memories. Thank you, got a daughter your age. Have Fun.
Your lucky if there was no damage to the piston or head because that is what usually happens the valve will tear up the piston the head and sometime the block too
That's been my experience with VWs, spit, gum and some string, on the road again.
Those air cooled engines are probably the only thing I've ever heard my dad praise about VW, or even vintage European cars in general

Many, many years ago I delivered parts to a body shop and they had vehicles that they raced in the Baja 1000. One was a buggy with a Porsche engine.
In this world of bright LED lights it’s refreshing to see a trusty old trouble light with the hook on the end. Thanks for sharing with us Merlin.

Worked Glamis in early 90's. There were hundreds of VW sand rails back then awesome rigs.
Pretty sweet the network of friends you have and that you are including them in this endeavor. Wish we could make it to your birthday bash looks like it will be a doozy.
Back in the 80s I had a friend who was a VW guru. He built a engine for another friend and that engine busted them 4 crank pins. The engine guy replaced the 4 with eight and when he built my engine he did it with eight crank pins. Dang good engine builder !
Points, plugs, distributors, carburettors.. things I understand. I love modern vehicles but there's something soulless about tuning a car with a computer chip. Much more fun when you have to gas flow heads and upgrade carbs. Love the channel...Let Brad know that Blue is amazing. Looking forward to seeing everyones Buggys and Rail;ss!
You guys all go hard when you want something to come together an man you guys have all the toys a man could need boats jet ski buggy .I like the looks of that white buggy the best that brad was driving .I would be cool to see Merlin an all his buddies build something together cause there all skilled

The kind that would melt anything they touch. The kind that you would drop and it would get real bright for about a second and then it burned out.
The ones with the metal shield and bail that would burn you after they had been on for a while.
I still have one and it works

Buggies are looking good, reckon you have the market cornered for them. Seen more buggies and VW engines in the last 45 minutes than in the previous 40 years, lol.

When I was 10-12 years old my grandpa said pull that motor out of the bug and put this new one in. My younger brother and I pulled that engine and put the replacement in and had it running in a short time. I’ll never forget that time. He had all the faith in the world we would get it done and we did.

You had me rolling with "don't eat free cheese" Back in the day I had a buggy with a snotty little 1776 hanging on the back of it. Alot of good parts in that motor. There weren't any other Vdub powered buggy's that could hang with it.

Merlin that ball is one of a set you put them in your hand for hand coordination you spin both balls on the outer edge of your hand and finger tips as fast as you can in a circle Without them touching each other it makes a soothing sound ,I have a set come in all sizes they are BAODING BALLS martial art stuff .
Brother, that clanging ball is a "stress" ball used in Chinese medicine to roll with another ball in one hand and meditate. If you ever come across another buggy that you deem "tossable" my brother & I would love to have a new project. We are here in Arizona. Another great video from Merlin & crew. TY
Yes, the metal ball comes in pairs and are called "Ben wa balls".

That was hilarious finding that Ben-Wa ball under the floor pan in the buggy. Couldn't stop laughing and wondering how it ended up there. The trips gonna be a blast.

That tow hitch is how they carried it to the dunes. They would put a bar with a coupler in it and lift it onto their hitch. I lived 4 miles from the "Little Sahara" for years. That was old school. Most swapped their sand tires to haul them.

while watching towards the end of the vid , was thinking Brads blue buggy fuel delivery issues were caused by tank not being vented ? to allow gravity feed ? ? as he said it ran fine on the stand . . . wonder what fixed it ? another great video

That ball that sounds like a bell is one of two in a set of stress balls. You hold them in your hand and rotate them in a circle and listen to the chimes for stress management and your hands will get super flexible after using them often.
Makes other things strong as well😂

Brad’s blue buggy is the nicest of them all so far! It’s interesting watching all these old fat guys trying to relive their youth restoring buggies they built in the seventies (when they were much younger and a whole lot slimmer!). I guess it pays to never throw anything away! Just remember: Bumbles don’t bounce like they did when they were in their 20’s.

It's a "Ben Wah Ball". 2 are rotated in your hand to calm and for meditation. But they were also sold to be .....inserted... for enjoyment? "Hey, why you smilin and what's that dinging noise?". haha.

That green shortback buggy has plenty of potential. If you decide to throw it away, throw it my way will ya? I had one back in the 70s. Mine had the B pillar welded to the torsion housing which gives better balance for a desert car. This one it's welded to the shock towers. Seats can mount further back that way gives better balance for a dune car. Any engines you wind up with spare would be appreciated over this way too.😎
For Brad, running new brake lines use NiCopp line, never have to do it again.

I remember the first time I drilled a crank for 8 long dowel pins to install a 9 pound flywheel. It made the 1835 sing.
