  • Bergamo is a small northern Italian city in Lombardy, less popular than nearby Lake Como or Milan. However, due to its special city structure and architectural attractions, it is worth making a short detour.
Located at the southern foot of the Bergamo Alps, the city is located in two areas - and with a height difference of nearly one hundred meters. There are two cable cars (funicolare) in the city, one connects the Lower City (Bergamo Bassa) with the Upper City (Bergamo Alta). Popular with both locals and tourists, it is a popular means of transport. It has been in operation since 1887, and thanks to the 85 m difference in level, it offers a panoramic view of the city limits and the plain. The other connects the Upper Town with the surrounding hills, the elegant art nouveau-style cable car has been operating since 1912. It's a great opportunity to explore Citta Alta from above.
