      Well these cars are not 80s cars, thats a 1976 Ford LTD, and thats a 1977 Dodge Monaco..

    All of you guys realize that the Dodge Monaco & the Eldorado were actually pretty evenly matched in the power range cad 8.2L 500 v8 had just under 200 hp the 440 Monaco around 200 hp

      Actually it was a 77 Eldorado which had a 425. We can tell its 77 model as it has the Eldorado script above the grill.

      Also not sure if a LAPD cruiser would have a 440, more then likely a 360.

      An E86 440 Monaco had 245-255hp even in CA trim in '77-'78 and it didn't take much to get well over 300hp from that engine, cat delete, re-jetting the carb, maybe a few other emissions deleted.

      ​@@MintyFreshTurdsan E58 360 was pretty stout, without emissions equipment, open exhaust, better carb jetting on the EM1 version of the 360 in the '78 Lil' Red Express D100 made 255hp and was the quickest accelerating American vehicle in 1979.

      When directors have a great passion for filmmaking, they can accomplish just about anything. James Cameron definitely has that. It is no wonder his films have achieved so much success.

    My question is this. Did the LAPD use 77/78 Monacos or Furys ?
    Also. I believe they didn't use Aerodynic lightbars till 79 ...
    But what do I know

      I think it'd be a safe bet to assume they used both. Most departments aren't a one vehicle fleet especially back then. You would have Impalas, Coronet's, LTD'S, Monaco's, Fury's, etc. I've seen pictures of LAPD using both back in the day.

      1:24 If you look at the very back you can see two LAPD caprices parked with another siren pattern. These vehicles are set in the movie while those were the standard models until the 90s.

      @@woecp Probably when they were filming the Lapd was still in transition renewing the fleet. In the second film,the vehicle that the 1000 steals is already consistent with the fleet of the period,which is the Chevrolet Caprice.

    Cameron STOLE a LOT from the 1978 film The Driver for the vehicle chases and stunts in this movie. The types of vehicles, the locations in LA, certain types of action. He made it more suspenseful and dark than car guy glory of The Driver and did SciFi instead of nhilistic crook but, yeah.

    bad movie editing...The Terminator had less than 10 seconds to make his escape after hitting the wall with his car without being seen be the cops. It's clear the movie was poorly edited to reflect that more time had passed when both cars stopped, Terminator's car hitting the wall and Sarah and Reese spinning out. The time passage reflected would indicate several minutes passed before the the cops showed up instead the 10 seconds protrayed in the movie. After hitting the car in the wall, the Terminator was stunned for several seconds. However, the cops showed up less than 10 seconds after the cars stopped. it's impossible for the Terminator to have escaped undetected. The Terminator had less than 10 seconds to escape undetected. More time obviously passed than what was reflected in the movie.

    I watched this after a video of the police chasing a much more powerful and nimble 1990s Eldorado for miles. It was pretty riveting, but car chases are just more fun when they involve big old American land yachts sliding all over the road like sleds from hell.

      This is vhs version is why. I likr dvd version better w the garage chase shotgun sound & then the international transtar that runs over Arnold that sound pack they used to make it sound more realistic i like very much in the dvd version. Because all you hear in vhs vers. Is just the squeling tire sound of the scraping rubber burnin off the tires.

      Because those vehicles were closing the street for the recordings while the one chasing the car is set in the movie,just notice that they are completely different models.

    So if the Terminator is hard to kill and "Absolutely will not stop", why did he leave? Wouldn't he have seen Sarah as cornered in the car and just walked up and killed her and Reese? Why would a Terminator run away if it is fearless?

      We see after the car chase the Terminator returns to his Motel to perform surgery on itself. It sustained seriously bad injuries in the police car that it probably felt it better to fix itself than continue.
