The Island of Saba in the Caribbean is so unique that when we heard about it, we just had to go see it for ourselves! It is home to the shortest commercial runway in the world (400 meters), and has the highest point in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. We were only here for 24 hours, but we made the most of it and hiked to the very top to be the highest people in all of the Netherlands and see spectacular views of the island!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this CZcams channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Loved the comment about the highest chicken in the Netherlands 😂😂
They made an error by the way: the kept talking about 'The Netherlands', which is a country in the european part of the KINGDOM of the Netherlands. Saba is an Island in the Carribean part of the KINGDOM of the Netherlands. So they should have said: "This is the highest mountain in the KINGDOM of the Netherlands.... this is the highest chicken in the Kingdom of the Netherlands". I do get it is a bit confusing, but what 'we' would call 'Holland' is that European part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. And they were in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but not in the Netherlands (as they were on Saba and St Maarten, not in Holland.)
@@ReneAltena that's actually incorrect, the kingdom of the Netherlands consists of the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao, & st. Maarten.
Bonaire, st Eustatius, & Saba are special municipalities of the Netherlands. So they are fully part of the Netherlands, making the chicken indeed 'the highest chicken in the Netherlands'.
To be honest, I laughed a little bit while watching and taught to myself that I bet there is some bird high in the Netherlands :D

We lasted visited Saba about 6 years ago?) and thank you for visiting St Marteen! (Island I was born on!) also 9:46 that’s my poppa you’re talking to 🥹. Made me tear up! Haven’t seen him in forever.. hope he’s doing well ❤️. James Johnson 🥹. He runs the trails in Saba. Always takes tourists around the mountains. He looks after the place well ❤️. This video made me really happy. Makes me wanna go back

Saba is by far my favorite islands in that area. I did a three week sailing trip in June of 2018 that started in St. Martin then to St. Kitts and Nevis to Statia, Saba, wrapping back up in St. Martin. I loved the entire trip. And love reliving through these videos!

I've wanted to get over to Saba for years. One little known fact is, a large percentage of residents left Saba to become Sea Captains. Of those a large number over the years were buried at Sailor's Snug Harbor on Staten Island, a retirement home for sailors, (now a park and museum), in NY overlooking the lower NYC skyline. So many tombstones engraved with the words, "A Sailor From Saba. 😊

A hidden gem :o) If the Internet is available, it might be a place to hole up when you do your working weeks. Question -- Saba lace used to be their cottage industry and brought much needed income onto the island. It is not to everyone's taste but the workmanship is/was amazing. Have the artisans died off with no younger women to take up the art?
Had you not mentioned about leaving the camera behind, I would be thinking right now, 'Did they ask someone to film their flight from the airport as it took off and send the clip to them? Would someone even do that?' Hahaha!

I spent 10 days on Saba in the 1990s. The runway was even smaller then. They sold t-shirts at the airport "terminal" (which was four poles and a roof) that stated, "I Survived the Sava Landing." I also stayed at Hotel Juliana. We went diving almost every day and it was the most amazing diving I've ever done. Jackie O used to stay there because it was so isolated. Loved my time there and so glad you got to visit.
They really misprinted the T shirts with "Sava"? :-)

I read about Saba years ago while I was watching those crazy St. Maarten plane/beach videos but don’t remember anyone doing a review of it especially as detailed and fun as yours was to watch! An acquaintance of mine from Maine can't wait for fiddlehead season. She says they roast them and put them on hot dogs. As I'm from Arkansas, I had never heard of fiddleheads either until she told me about them a couple of years ago. :)
