  • "“Woman. Noun. Adult human female,” read the sticker applied to Queensland MP Shannon Fentiman’s office window. Walking past the window at the Waterford Shopping Centre in Logan, one might have assumed the sticker belonged to Fentiman. She was, until Thursday, Queensland’s Minister for Women.
But one would’ve been mistaken. “I know the sticker doesn’t look like it says much, and most people will be lucky enough to be unaffected by what it says,” Fentiman wrote on her Instagram page. “But for some people in our community, these stickers represent much more - they represent a movement which discriminates against them and denies their existence.”

We need to be precise with our language. Trans woman or trans man is not precise. Trans identifying males or female is a more precise term. You can’t change your sex and gender is not the same as sex. When referring to female anatomy or health care we need precise terminology which they are trying to conflate. “Persons” don’t give birth, women do. “Persons” don’t get prostate cancer, men do. Reject this trans ideology because it makes no sense logically or scientifically.

But how about biological women who can't give birth? Or what about Intersex people who have ambiguous genitalia (for some reason, no one on the Right or in the Center ever talks about their existence except when their genitals MUST be corrected to stick to one gender; as in "pick a side"). We must also recognize that the trans-movement as a whole does NOT SPEAK for most trans individuals. I've heard and read many an opinion from Trans folk who say that they are NOT women (or men); that they are trans-women/men.

Finally a balanced, educated, informed discussion. As much as I used enjoy Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson, these two are far more educated, balanced, informed and it's actually nice to hear this from two young women in a space where these discussions are usually held by men 50+ .

Shannon Fentiman still is the Minister for Women, she didn't lose that portfolio. She lost the Attorny-General portfolio and rightly as you said picked up the Health portfolio.

@@Quillette Shannon Fentiman is my MP and I have met with her over this issue. She is steadfast in her commitment to men. We have started up a campaign in Logan, where the electorate of Waterford is in Queensland and we did an action on May 16, roadside action outside of her electoral office, 4 of us and she called the police on us. We are going to have a concentrated campaign in an attempt to lose her her seat in October 2024. The police confirmed that we were not acting illegally but took our names. This was an attempt to intimidate us but we knew the action we were taking was no unlawful. That sticker that was left on her office the previous week has been her downfall.

The problem isn't that words are getting redefined. This is a natural, ongoing process and essential to philosophical discourse. The problem is that feminists insist that only their new definitions are valid and not abiding by their moral imperative to regulate speech is misogynist or whatever the latest insult might be

Feminism is not a monolith. You are talking about the VIchy feminists, the academic or 'third wave' feminists who have lost the plot. Lesbian feminists esp. have been warning about the male, heterosexual cross-dresser sexual fetishists w/ their paraphilias for decades and their danger to women. Janice Raymond, a lesbian feminist U of Mass professor, wrote her book, The Transsexual Empire, in 1979, calling out the dangers of 'trans' for women. Lesbians have known for some time who these sex pests are b/c of those who make the absurd claim that they are lesbian--they are dangerously deluded.

The meaning of words are constantly changing; I agree we should not have laws telling us what words mean in our common usage. Legal definitions are necessary, of course, and some women object to males in female spaces.

On the abortion question and majority opinion. I think the U.S. Supreme Court pronouncement last year as a MASSIVE own goal for The Republicans. It instantly torpedoed the favorable mid-term results had been expecting prior to The Court's move. It was NOT rocket science: it was obvious what would happen when the news broke that the Court was going to make a major decision on the abortion question. My reaction was: "You Morons! - you had a chance to build a coalition of reasonable people (opposed to extrme Identity Politics) - but you've just pushed the self-destruct button."

Lea Thomas is participating in female sports at the University of Pennsylvania ( I think). Title IX forbids sex discrimination against individuals in education. The law reads "No person in the US shall, on the basis of sex, be denied participation in .... any educational program or activity ...". In light of this human rights law - on what basis is it legal to exclude men from female sports?

    • @hooligan9794
      @hooligan9794 Před 5 měsíci +1

Because, even if you have the right to participate in sports, that does not give you the right to participate in any category you want or flout conditions for entry.
If I were to wake up tomorrow and decide I want to join a league intended for children, are you under the impression that citing title ix will quash any objection?
If I decide that I want to swim in the championship finals despite never having participated in any swimming before, do you think citing title ix will gain me entry, or should?
If you get why the above scenarios are absurd, you should have no problem understanding why men can't just rock up and demand entry into a competition for women.

Arguably feminists have a hand in this (which Claire does not mention at all, I spotted no irony when she said the meaning of words had to be communally agreed), some years ago they minted entirely new words that had never existed: Ms and Womyn. This kind of political neologism, one could see this as the beginning of where we are now.

Are you claiming here that trans activits are just so respectful of men that they aren't going to interfere with language around men?
      😂😂
Or course they happily change language for men, of course they demand that transmen can use men's bathrooms etc.
The difference is that men don't care so there is no big deal about it. It should be obvious why this is not a concern for men but is for women, and this is why it is women's spaces, and women generally are the battleground.
Please don't try to turn it in to some kind of dopey patriarchy claim, if that is where you were going with that...

we can test theory that is not empirically testable, it's called deductive reasoning aka logic: philosophy, unlike science which is just inductive, anecdote: you can never get to truth (if there is such a thing that humans can attain) via inductive reason, you only get a probability
