  • Angel and Occult Tarot by Travis McHenry and Rockpool
The Angel-Evoking Tarot, respectively the Demon-Possessed Tarot, have been self-published in 2018 following successful Kickstarter campaigns. The Angelic Tarot gathered 1,103, while the Demonic 722 backers. In 2020, the Australian Rockpool Publishing revamped these two decks, and in an all-new presentation, brought them to a new life.
In the Book of Thoth, Aleister Crowley noted, “each card is, in a sense, a living being; and its relations with its neighbours are what one might call diplomatic. It is for the student to build these living stones into his living Temple.”
I always suspected Crowley that his main interest in Tarot was using the cards to conjuring and summoning supernatural entities - spirits which one may call angels or daemons. Truthfully, this is a complex and somewhat controversial topic that should be addressed accordingly. For now, let’s go along with the idea that these are two complementary decks, designed both to work separately or together.
The decks are delivered in beautiful boxes. Inside we have the guidebook and the deck.
The original design of the cards featured “ageing elements” such as wrinkles, rips, discolouration, apparent burn-holes, and even blood stains. Rockpool created a “clean” design that replaced the original “horror feel” with refined elegance. The background colour is white, featuring discrete graphic elements such as Magick circles. The cards of the Angel Tarot has gold, while the Occult Tarot has red gilded edges. They look great, but from my experience, shuffling can be difficult and may produce damaging the edges and the cards. If I wear to chose between aesthetics and practical efficiency, definitively I would vote for durability.
On the other hand, I love the matte finish. It is a - horrible - trend currently to have glossy varnish, which is not only “shinny blinding” but wears off quickly, ripping off the printing as well and destroying the cards, most of the time at the very first shuffling. Thanks to Gabriel and Beelzebub, it is not the case!
The guidebooks also look great - their content, however, is less satisfying. The major shortcoming is the lack of Tarot related information. In the booklet of the Occult Tarot, the only reference is “resonates with the X (card) in the traditional Tarot.” On seventy-eight pages, we have the full-size pictures of each card, featuring one more time the demon’s abilities - it is a beautiful waste of precious space. Adding the Tarot interpretation of the cards would have been quite handy.
I would be keen to know a whole lot more about the correspondence system created by Travis McHenry, as it is different from the one originated by the Golden Dawn, used by Crowley and other occultists and Tarot creators such as Lon Milo Duquette. The booklet of the original edition has a complete table of correspondence, while the Rockpool edition left this vital information off.
Can these decks be used as “regular” Tarot decks for divination? Theoretically, yes, practically is not that simple. Without that table of correspondences and further information regarding the meaning of the Tarot cards, only advanced Tarot readers may traditionally use these decks.
Still, it can be a powerful instrument of Ceremonial Magick - handled with care!
On the other hand, they are beautiful collectables, wonderful additions to any respectable collection. Just be careful and don’t buy counterfeited editions! If you find these decks on AliExpress/Alibaba/Wish/Geek or any other website selling cheap knockoffs, they’re most likely fake copies. If you see them for less than the list price, $24-$29, they are probably fake copies. Don’t support the piracy! You deserve better!
Mr McHenry studied the dark arts and various religions, served as an intelligence specialist in the United States Navy, worked as a recruiter in the corporate world, and created several Magickal decks of cards, including The Oracle of Heaven and Hell, Tarot of Vlad Dracula, The Hieronymus Bosch Tarot, and The Devil’s Own, respectively An Angel’s Own Playing Cards. The Vlad Dracula Tarot, featuring drawings by Russian artist Nikita Vuimin, has also been republished by Rockpool Publishing. CEO, author and adventurer, occultist and podcast host, filmmaker, actor and musician, Travis McHenry is a colourful character of many diverse interests.

Ahh, I love the transition in the music, Attila!
    Classical to Death Metal. 😈
What do you think about the decks?

    •  Před 3 lety

Thank you! First of all, I think the transition from Handle to Mayhem serves the purpose; secondly, please read the video's description - which is a small review of the two decks. Working on a more detailed review for my website.

      @ Will do!
I saw the Occult Tarot a while ago, but it didn’t speak to me. My head is too wrapped up in astrology. I think my cup runneth over with all the different systems I’m working to integrate into my practice. 🧐🌹✨🕯

@@mysticrosetarot888 I hear you, and I know what you mean. Fun thing. Back in 2018, I was also considering creating a Tarot deck based on the sigils and "entities". So, I made quite extensive research, read three and halftones of Grimoires and Enochian Magick books. Astrology gives us the exact timing for each card. Finding the right correspondence between these entities and the Tarot cards is... more than challenging. At least.

LOVE Mayhem!!! There's several other groups I was guessing lol I had to look.
Yes I'm a Satanist. I am VERY VERY disappointed with both of these. YES I have both!! To me, it's like you can't have one without the other!
I skimmed over your description and I noticed you cautioned be careful with the Occult Tarot AKA Demon Tarot, which is what he originally called it. But he, the publisher, somebody dumbed it down.
I'm STILL kicking my a$$ for missing out on the first 100 Kickstarter decks!! Damn damn DAMN!!! IDK about the Angel but the Demon Tarot, the first actual copy, had the actual Rituals and other stuff in it according to a comparison video I watched.
Both of these were a HUGE disappointment and a HUGE wasted opportunity!! I'm talking a I feel like CRYING missed opportunity!!!
IDK if you practice or not, my mind is boggled right now and on something else really but you know and you said it. The Occult has a lot to be desired. Well they both do!!!
These are absolute BEAUTIFUL decks and to be had and kept as collectibles!! DEFINITELY.
Now supposedly Travis is coming out with a book, that will have information to use for Rituals and other stuff for both of these decks next month!! Which is completely bullshit because it should have been included in the guide book for both to start with!!
He's also coming out with Angel and Demon of the day decks for $12.99 each that will be delivered in April. So I'm definetly getting in on that!
I also have the Vlad Dracula deck. It's beautiful also. I LOVE the guilded cards. Yes they stick together at first. A lot of new decks will. You have to shuffle. Get to know your deck, let it get to know you.
Now I said I have both of these decks. I do BUT 😂😀 Both mine are the Knock Off decks! LOL 😂 I DO have the online guide book PDF for both of these as well as for most of my knock off decks. No they're not guilded or in the nice sturdy box lol
The knock off decks for the Occult mimics the original. Yes it's a small cigarette size lol Tuck Tuck box with the smaller thinner cards which is okay. They're good quality for what they are and will last just as long as any other. Most of my knock off decks boxes mimic the original
Now the Angel Tarot deck, the cards look the same, but same as the Occult they're not guilded and are just smaller. And thinner of course. But the box does NOT look like the original. It's a small silver box not white, and has the Angel on the front but the back has 2 cards on it and no writing. It has the third card that's on the back of the original and another different card. IDK I just thought that was odd
I LOVE Travis McHenrys stuff he puts out and I want it ALL but I have a LOT of reservations!!
He done a video and blatantly LIED which I do NOT like!! I am NOT okay with it and yes I called him out and he didn't deny it!! It was a video about the Occult knock off decks. ( yes it irritates the FVCK out of me when people call them fake!! They're NOT fake!! They're just as real as the Original) well he said people had been contacting him complaining they couldn't find the online guide book for that deck. He said they will never find it as it does NOT exist.
Ummm YES it DOES!! I have it downloaded and I had it downloaded then!! I put that in the comments. I explained how to find it as well as guide books for other decks.
We have to remember there is a language barrier with the producers and sellers of these decks. They make it sound like you can scan the QR code on the box and the guide book for that deck will come straight up.
But it doesn't work that way. You have to go to the website it brings up and search for it. Sometimes it's not in that website but the code on a different deck will bring up the website it is on. Just have to search. He said something like how dare he eat. 😡😡 FVCK!!! I damn sure wish I was starving bad as he is!!! I wouldn't have a worry in the fvcking World!!!
Anyway, I have 3 decks each. Lol in case I need to use a card for a Ritual of my own or whatever. But i should be able to print whatever from the online guide book. Which anyone can get. You don't have to have the knock off decks to get the online guide book. Like if you want to print a card for a Ritual instead of ripping the page out of your nice paper guide book that's going to have another Demon on the back of it and you will have to work with both that way.
All I did was a Google search. Some will come up like that. I typed in The Occult/Angel Tarot Travis McHenry online guide book PDF. And pressed enter and it's the first result for both. You can download and save it
This also works for decks you may be on the fence about getting, especially if it's the original, and this allows you to see the guide book first.
Yes I love the original decks but I only get certain ones. Like if I really love a deck, like these 2 because they're so pretty lol it sure ain't for all the good information that's included 🙄🤷🤦 😡😀 I want the knock off and the Original. So I will order these 2. But I don't like him lying. He KNEW he was lying!!
And he said the Original cards have the seal on them to protect you but the knock off cards don't. What does he mean they don't?? They look exactly the same. They have the EXACT same seals/sigils/ markings on them that the original cards do just smaller obviously. So do the Angel cards. Everything is the same except they're obviously smaller. So I don't get that.
I love my Vlad Dracula deck and I wish it came in a knock off but it doesn't.
No knock off decks will NOT make your readings off and they will not put bad or negative energy to you or in your readings.
To be honest, people talk sh1t on these videos. Oh the artist, whatever!! VERY few of us, especially those of us who are still learning Tarot, buy a deck because of the artist!! We don't. We just want cards. There's nothing wrong with getting the cheaper ones. Not me, you, or anyone else owes the artist a living just because they don't want to work a job. They want to print cards, that basically ANY of us can do, and live off that. They put down the knock off decks calling them fake trying to guilt trip people. But that doesn't work on me it never has.
I have around 60 decks give or take. 5 are Original. I can't tell you who 3 of the artists are without looking. I know of Travis McHenry because of the rarety and popularity and missed, horrible missed opportunity!!
Ibe had people say I do it too. Talking about knock off decks and they say it low down like they are embarrassed. I'm like NO. Uh uh! Say that shit louder!! Don't be ashamed. We have a right to spend our money however we want
There's one deck. I got the Knock off for $10. The Original is hard to get, it sells out as soon as she gets it printed, published whatever. There's NO guide book. Not even with the original. Yet it costs $45 plus shipping and tax I think. It's the Darkness of Light Tarot 4th edition. I had requested to be notified when it was available as I thought about getting it until I found out the price and there's no guide book. I can't remember her name but she said she was aware the "fake" deck was being sold so she was including a personal autographed card with the Original. Yes it comes or did, it may not now, with free card replacement. It's $45 well that was almost 2 years ago, plus shipping and tax I think
Some of my best and most accurate readings have been with knock off decks.
SORRY for the book 🤦🤦🤷SMH I could talk about this all day!!
One last thing, I am a Satanist as I said already and we view Samael as a Demon. A very VERY powerful Demon. I was very surprised to find him in the Angel deck. Both these decks need to be used with extreme caution. Some Angels are nastier then some Demons
What is your take on Samael being in the Angel deck??

@darkangel7820 Thanks for your extended comment on this. You should also read the description text of this video. The music I used in the video is credited at the end. My honest opinion is that Travis McHenry is a fraud. Most people involved in esoteric matters, especially in the card publishing business, are. I also believe that genuine occultists who put study and work into writing and publishing books and decks deserve support for their efforts. Those are few and often less popular. Genuine knowledge is rare and difficult to get. And comes at a price. Most of what you can Google is bluntly rubbish. There are no angels and demons, only spirits that may appear in various shapes and forms.

@ @AttilaKarpathy I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. With what I've experienced, felt, heard, I have to disagree.
There's a video with Travis McHenry and Damien Echols I believe. They had me so confused I just stopped watching. Saying there's 72 something parts of your brain and the Demons are in the lower something parts of your brain and the Angels are in the 72 top part something of your brain. Travis was saying oh but he created the cards as if they're real spirits and Lucifige Rofocale came through and helped him get rich (BULLSHIT he was already rich!! I mean every single one of us have the money to go to Rome and get into a protected sacred museum right 🙄🙄 I mean seriously!! They just let him in for the Hell of it. I don't believe that for a second. Somebody somewhere put up some big money and I mean big to get in there like he claims he was)
My alarm bells about him were going off when he lied about the guide book for the cheaper cards. Bad as I would love to have the original because they are so pretty I'm really leaning towards no.
Somebody who will litteraly make a CZcams video JUST to lie about something as simple as a guide book for a $10 deck of cards being online, what else they hiding?? He never did say anything about the Angel knock off deck/online guide book, just the Occult

@@darkangel7820 It is a freaking free world - apparently. I encourage you to disagree! ✌However, I am not sure what you disagree with. 😂He's a fraud.
