I'm convinced people only hate this song because it's a callout on humanity. Humanity doesn't like being called out on their mistakes and having them rubbed in their face. This song is a banger and if the topic wasn't so controversial / negative, it would have won many more awards than just the webby (which all would have been deserved).
It's a good song, that's it. I'm pretty sure there were some better songs at the time.

Because the track sounds too compressed. The bass needs to be double tracked, the tremble needs to be pulled out. That's the only thing wrong with it. The rich don't see what happens to the poor, white people aren't affected by the same problems as black people, etc. The people's identity is inherently placing them in a bubble, preventing them from experiencing the problems others suffer from, and giving them deniability when it comes to helping deal with those problems.
