I'm convinced people only hate this song because it's a callout on humanity. Humanity doesn't like being called out on their mistakes and having them rubbed in their face. This song is a banger and if the topic wasn't so controversial / negative, it would have won many more awards than just the webby (which all would have been deserved).

my theory on what she is talking about is clear I think. she's talking about society in the form of a song. we are so comfortable living in our bubble in the United States we refuse to see what could happen. we can't see the trouble we could get into. turn it up it's your favorite song: many Americans like the president, so they listen to him and nothing else. dance to the distortion: the government is messed up and distorted. and he is repeatedly listened to dispite his short comings. we are pretty much wasted zombies following what we know. and we're all chained to the rhythm because it's all we know, we don't like change so it's not going to. we are prisoners to it even though we think we are free. we see all this through a lens and take what we have for granted. we chose to ignore the inevitable and strive on hopeful. this song is geniously written.

We are really chained to the rhythm
We go to school then college and after that work our self out for a company whose don’t care about us..
We hate what they told us
Hate that because... ( silly cause)
hate those because.. ( another silly case)
Love him because he is our hero

Yeah . . . No. The lyrics, combined with imagery in the music video, indicate she's pointing out how privilege blinds people the things hurting others. The rich don't see what happens to the poor, white people aren't affected by the same problems as black people, etc. The people's identity is inherently placing them in a bubble, preventing them from experiencing the problems others suffer from, and giving them deniability when it comes to helping deal with those problems.

Let me tell you a bit about the song: She was talking about how we humans tend to be blind in many aspects of life..........we are always chained to the rhythm meaning that we are always following what others are doing so that we are not left out too.......and if you listen to Skip Marley's part then you will notice that he is talking about some sort of Empire that has always gave us false information and how they have been really greedy over power and that now people are finally awake! This is basically him saying that we have always followed false leaders(I have no idea if this is political but I see how this can become really political) but finally we are not that stupid, at least some of us.........................Thing is that please listen to songs that have meaning!

She cleverly disguised the message in a fun catchy song that you’d think is just about club dancing until you pay attention to the lyrics, which no one does because they’re more interested in the tune and rhythm.
