I like how you professionally welded onto rust on the right hand side of the sill and blown a hole straight through it, I might try that sometime if I ever get to your level of welding. Hahaha
I splashed boiled linseed oil on all the underside when I was welding my mk6 and after a year it still looks good. If you want to remove the rust just give it a soaking with phosphoric acid then when it's dry apply the linseed, rust just heads out of town!
Great video and really informative. I personally cut the old sill out completely when I did mine. I don't see the point of welding new metal over rust as it just keeps rusting underneath your new panel so it won't last as long as cutting the rot out mate. Not a criticism either. Just saying how I did mine.
Mark Morgan Van to camper conversion I was just thinking the same if u don’t cut the old rust out it’s just goin to spred like a prozzies legs when she see’s a 5 pound note..good video tho I agree
I have been welding my mk 6 and welder seems to have gone shite like flame thrower now av reilised the metel I was welding inn is coated galvanised I got it from automotive dealers would this b the cause
ace crusader usuall galve fluffs up white but should weld better if you rub or gently grind it off. However I would suspect that your gas is low or run out. If your using co2 by itself it is an active gas which will also do that. Best to use argon co2 mix.
I'm about to embark on getting rid of the rust in my MK6 and without these vids I would not have known what part to buy. it appears the foot well, outer sill and lower inner guard are the worst effected on these vans.
Glad it helped yes I had a mk6, welded it up many times. Brilliant van but suffered badly with corrosion. Mk7 is not as prone to rust. Hope you can sort it out.
@@M0YKSHamRadio It didn't just help it was enlightening. I'm in Australia so corrosion sin't really a thing. But they do need "tidying up" when they get this old. I have a 156 Alfa from 2002 and that hasn't a sceric of rust on it. The Ford was a bit of a shock when I saw it had rust. So my panel beater and I are looking at what might go wrong. You solved that question in one vid. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this.
@@bicanoo_magic3452 great to hear. Glad you dont have the same corrosion issue. I am from Yorkshire UK and its high into the pennine mountains where the weather is a ford slayer. lol enjoy your MK6 great to drive👍
I like transits. The only real complaint was the rusting. Trouble with me is by the time I get to own a van the rusting is in pretty advanced stages. I'm guessing its due to insufficient underseal, and them being owned by drivers who know they will be trading in 3 years so will never need to deal with those issues. Best thing you can do to a transit van if you have a good rust free example is to spend some money on underseal. What do you think?
got to agree with you about everything you say and I also have a rusty mk6 that will need some more welding before long. treating them is good if they are clean from rust and adds a few extra winters. good job there are plenty of replacement panels cheap enough to keep them going. great engine!
Just been watching this video on welding thought looked familiar you live up road from me mate lol, Do you know anything about mk6 transit to mk7 front end conversions ? Cheers pal
Lol small world! as far as I know it is straight forward enough to do I have seen a few that have been converted and look good. Just need the MK7 bits, wings + front arches, bonnet, grill, lights, indicators and and decent weather and maybe a bit of welding once you strip off your old wings.

As long as you like something that is all that matters kiddo
Nice job looks perfect
Thanks buddy its still good a couple of years on 😁

How much would it cost for someone to do this exact same job on my mk7
James Pyne I'd say probably £250 -500 depends on who is doing it. If u live local I'll do it lol

Haha i know mate its mad and just got full mk7 front end so gonna give it a go once weathers good lol
A mask would be handy.
Who are these professionals?
Bodgit n Leggit Inc🤔 to be fair though its a working van not a trailer queen not a tent on wheels conversion, just do what's needed.
Used to love my transit but now got a Trafic and will never go back to transits
Alex Berry I like the look of the traffic I might try one in the future
M0YKS - 2E0HTS mm best think about Trafic is they don't rust
Alex Berry but the engine and box is dog crap
No safety goggles 😥
