    Providing a native feature that does not perform as expected, namely, that "automatic" discount doesn't "automatically" place product X in the customer shopping cart, looks an awful lot like you purposely half-developed a feature that by all accounts is lacking critical expected functionality, just so that you would force shop owners to spend more on monthly subscriptions to 3rd party apps. It feels like a grift.

    Why did the video not cover setting up the Y. The Y is the most important part. I assume that's set up in the "Customer Gets" section, but then I'm so confused by the line: "Customers must add the quantity of items specified below to their chart"
    What does it mean by "Buy X, Get Y" I thought it meant they purchase a product and they get a free product automatically.
    I was happy to see this feature and planned a campaign around it, but I can't get it working and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if it just doesn't do what I thought it would. Apps that handle this are quite expensive so I'm hoping to not have to resort to using one.

      Hi, there! Great question. 'Customers must add the quantity of items specified below to their cart' means that in order to qualify for the discount, customers first have to meet initial requirement of adding product X to the cart. Then they have to add product Y as this won't automatically add itself. You need to promote your discount incentive requirements.
      To ensure this process is clear to your customers, I recommend adding information to your product description that outlines if customers add i.e. three X products to their cart, they will only be charged for two, and receive the third for free.       @@ShopifyHelpCenter Is there a way to make the product get added automatically? I need every customer to get the accessory, and I want to track inventory of the accessory separate from other products, so this would make my life allot easier. Since I cannot edit orders done in other currencies, I also cannot manually add it to their orders. This means I need to create a second order, which will then throw off the calculated weight for shipping on the first order.

      At this time, customers will need to add all applicable products to the cart in order for the Buy X Get Y discount to apply. Stores will often include this detail in their marketing and on their website so customers know what to do. Alternatively, there might be an app that will add the promotional product automatically.     I set one up, where if they buy X they you get a free hoodie but when I was going through checkout, it did not give me a choice of size of the hoodie or it did not even show up in the checkout, then when I added the hoodie it was full price. What is up with that?

    what if price of product X is less than product Y, how will I choose that the product Y (larger amount) should be the cart value?

      Hi there Arpit. If the conditions of the customer buys and the customer gets are the same (e.g. products from the same collection), then the lowest priced product will receive the discount by default.

    At first I was excited about the Buy x get y promo, until I realized the "get y" portion is not automatically added to the order/cart. I want to reward customers spending more than $100 with a free gift and have it automatically included. This is a HUGE bummer. Making the customer 1) find the specific product that is offered for free and 2) add it to the cart themselves is unnecessarily complicated and, ultimately disappointing to the customer. Additionally, it hardly qualifies as a "Automatic Discount" if other actions are required to fulfill the discount. Am I missing something or is this a decision on your part?

      Hi Society Jane! Thank you for your feedback on this. This is expected behavior as we don't want customer carts to be edited without direct consent from the customer. Changing the cart contents could cause confusion and higher abandoned cart rates in the long run. You can use the Shopify Bundles app to create bundled products, so buying one product sells two product skus: shopify.link/0jMv or you can use product recommendations to suggest a customer add the free or discounted product to the cart: shopify.link/Axmk.     Can you have the automatic discount show on the product page? At the moment we can only get it to show when the customer is checking out but we want to promote the offer in the lead up to Christmas.

      Hi, Graeme! Shopify's native automatic discount feature doesn't currently support showing automatic discounts on product pages. Automatic discounts are applied at checkout, and that's where they're typically shown. There are several apps available in the Shopify App Store that can help with this however, feel free to browse them via this link: shopify.link/wpP1.

      Currently, you're only able to feature the automatic discount at checkout, not on the product page. If you'd like to alert customers regarding store discounts, you can utilize the store's announcement bar or include it in an email campaign.

    when creating a 'buy 5 products, get $5 dollars off' discount, it says 'amount off each', does that mean i would give them $5 dollars off TOTAL, or $5 dollars off every item they buy?

      Hi, there! Amount off each would refer to an amount off each individual item. We currently only offer the options of Buy X Get: % off the total, amount off each item, or a free product. As such, if you'd like to provide a Buy 5 Get $5 off you would need to use the "Amount off order" discount instead of the Buy X Get Y discount. - Skye
