@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries The sight of these unstoppable killing machines ceaselessly marching forward always made me think the first level music's voice was saying, "You bet-ter give up!" I know that isn't what it is actually saying though.
Oh man! This game. I first saw this in the early 90s at the BX. I begged my dad for a quarter but he said no. I tried to describe this game to my friends, trying to describe the graphics and the screen. They all thought I was lying, so we convinced my mom to go and we scrounged all our quarters and when we got back to the BX a few weeks later the machine was gone. We still had some fun with the other games but I was so disappointed. I could never figure out the name of this game. It took 28 more years before I ran into it again. Even well into my 30s I still said YESSSSS really loud and ran to it. I finally got to play and it was still worth the wait. Thanks again for the great content and the home conversion comparisons!
Triple screen arcade the height of arcade sophistication back in the 80s. Great narration in this vid, you sound in great shape. Thanks again for a great historical video.
i was lucky enough to play this as a kid and see the wonder that it was , never payed much attention until the snes version came out, and now , many years later, playing them both on my switch, the arcade version and the snes remaster, still one of my favorite snes games of all time, and one hell of a memory, i think they other game at the time that blew me away was LASER GHOSE, that one with the 3 guns and the holograpic laser shooting on the screen, that really was impressive for the time.
I remember back in 88 when i was 12 that this arcade was so popular that it was sort of an exclusive to older tougher teenagers, meaning that us younger non metal kids could never get to play it, always some guys on it. When you got a chance it was a miracle. We played Robocop instead which the delinquants had sort of stopped playing after this one came in. Swear to God. 😆
LOL, I started going arcades in the late 70s and at the height of it I can recall two teenagers getting into a fight. One teenager actually gave the other guy a piledriver right there on the floor in front of me. Luckily his head didn't hit the concrete.

I am a big fan of Zunata and love their music. Years later I played the last 3 crt cabinet made by Taito which was the superior Rastan sequel Warrior Blade. There is this amazing feeling playing on that 3 screen effect that can is reduplicated, I'm sure there are long LED monitors, but it's the overall charm of a low-tech way to make something lightyears ahead of its time. I owned the Mega CD game I bought as an import and thought it was amazing, I think it even had the music video of the first stage music Daddy Mulk as one of the features. What came close to this was Taito's Thunder Fox which is an excellent game that has the atmosphere, music and graphics, and tight controls, but sadly no 3 crt cabinet, Once again Patman great video!

@PatmanQC - History of arcade game documentaries I hope you are ready for a LONG COMMENT as I have alot to say about this game... Here in the UK, I find many don't remember this game that fondly... It was obviously a hit hence the various ports - But when I speak with my friends from back in the day they all felt it was Gimmicks over Substance... Needless to say I DISAGREE! I LOVED THIS GAME! I remember vividly the first time I saw it's cabinet at an old arcade near our local Bus Station, and its size blew me away... I dropped a few coins in and I WAS HOOKED!!! I am not sure what it was that got me about the game as I was never any good at games like "Green Beret / Rush N' Attack" ... Maybe it was just that this was more simple to get into and introduced players with a reasonably hard but completable start before kicking your arse... Or maybe it was the fact that I had also not long seen THE TERMINATOR for the first time! And that Music, OH DEAR LORD THAT MUSIC... Much like your video - I will come back to that! As an Atari ST Owner, teh moment I knew the game was available - I BOUGHT IT... I was not disappointed, BUT DAMN IT WAS ARCADE HARD!!! Thank the lord for Cheat codes, Such as OPENTHEPODBAYDOORSHAL which if I recall right, Both on Atari ST and Amiga would give you infinite Shuriken. Needless to say, I NEVER Saw the Arcade Ending - But seeing it here made me LAUGH... You just have to admire Translation Errors - They give so much character! "A REVORUTION Broke out" - DAMN that got me!!! Zuntata are AMAZING! That Soundtrack is just so DAMN AWESOME that - And I kid you not - Here in 2021, DADDY MULK is actually in my Phone's Playlist whenever I go out - Right alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Led Zeppelin... Both the Arcade and Mega CD Arranged Versions... It's such and amazing soundtrack and I would LOVE to see them perform live!!! What a Game... But DAMN it robbed me blind... 30 Years on and I still hold a grudge... I wish I was in the US as I would be going to play on that Cabinet you mentioned as... ...To this day I have NEVER BEATEN THAT DAMN TANK ON LEVEL 2 WITHOUT CHEATS!!! And I have promised myself that ONE DAY, IF I EVER SEE THIS GAME IN ARCADES ONCE MORE THAT I WILL BEAT THAT DAMN TANK... NO MATTER WHAT IT COSTS!!!! I don't want to beat the entire game - I just want to prove to myself I can beat that GOD DAMN TANK AT LEAST ONCE! Ahhhhhhhhh! You can tell I have a lot of love for this game... I don't know why but alongside Gauntlet, This game is MY CHILDHOOD in the Arcades beyond doubt....
when I 1st saw the game cabinet, I was awestruck by the size. + the screens. the picture was amazing. I have to say it was ahead of its time 👍🏼 tbh I didn’t remember the name of the game at all.
I loved this game when it came out, but Darius ranks up there as one of my all-time favorites. I'd love to see a video about that one too, mostly because I never really got to see a true home conversion of it.
I used to play this a lot when I was a kid in Coney Island. I found out a couple of years ago that it had a snes port. Great video again Patman QC! Please keep it up!
Hardly a "port". The SNES version is a complete re-imagining that this video does not adequately convey. It plays less like the arcade and more like a cross between a side-scrolling beat'em up like Final Fight merged with a one on one fighter (single plane of movement, high/low attacks and blocks, a large move set per character). This video and Patman's skills, or lack thereof, do not adequately convey just how awesome it is.
This game was a sight to behold back in 1988, I remember my lungs and backside gasping for breath at the same time when I first saw it. Love the game on the Amiga and was totally blown away when it launched for the PS4/PS5 on PSN. I think its on the Switch too.
I'm surprised I never heard of this one, back in the day. Looks really good. Your characters showing off more robotic endoskeleton as they take damage is a really nice touch. The Terminator approves. Ah pity there's no remastered PC version.

Incredible arcade game and one of my all time favorites! Lots of great memories of playing this co-op in the arcade with my brother. I remember playing it for the first time back in the day and thinking it was the most violent game I'd ever seen. Pretty tame by today's standards though, but I still don't like the part where you have to fight the dogs =(. Also, the music from the first level is THE best video game tune to come out of the 80s! I'm kinda shocked I never saw the SNES port anywhere, and I only learned that it existed a few years ago. Was the cart super rare or something? I don't recall any gaming magazines covering it either. Anyway, great video as always! Thanks PatmanQC!!! Stay awesome!
I remember the arcade up here in Plattsburgh had this in brand new in 88. I was mesmerized by the awesome stereo sound and the huge triple display (you could slightly see the tiny gaps between the mirrors and the center CRT, today's flat panels would make a world of difference here, but it was still cool back then. I dumped a lot of quarters into this game. In retrospect, the fact that 95% of the enemies you kill are black grunts carrying only a bayonet hasn't aged well under the current political climate I'm sure. But regardless, I still have a huge blast hooking MAME up to my projector and playing this with my SlikStik arcade controller on a 114" screen and a 250 watt stereo sound system...
Aladdins castle at the st Charles mall in st Charles IL is my first place seeing this game and I remember walking around with butter knives like the female ninja at my house as a kid.. my parents were like wtf you doing?
@PatmanQC - History of arcade game documentaries Love the always awesome and nostalgia inducing style of your vids. One thing I noticed when you showed the SNES version of the game as I listened to the sounds and music, and I noticed that they are almost identical to the SNES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles Tournament Fighters sounds and music...heck, I bet that the game was done by the same team of developers although made for a different company Tournament Fighters was done by Konami. If you can check it out and compare the two and see...(whispering an annoying reminder) don't forget the ALIENS arcade game LOL. Keep more vids coming my friend you are a library of nostalgia :)
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries On Aliens I'm just messing with you since mostly every time I comment I'm always asking for it lol. But on the TMNTs tournament fighters, yeah look it up and compare the sounds and graphics.
I was not even able to enter any Arcade, because they were 18+ in my Place. They mixed it up with One-Armed Bandits and other Gambling, that's why. No Kids or Teens allowed. I could just look jealous at the nice pictures in Magazines.
I almost forgot about this one. Lately i was thinking of a 5 person shooter where everyone is a soldier and the guns are rifles. I think is came out in the late 90's.
I always liked this serie as the Super Nes version might my alltimes favourite game. But you can easily finish the game without blocking. Throwing is most important thing to master in this game. I was also lucky to play the original arcade version the last time I was in Tokyo.
Oh man I was wondering when somebody was gonna make a video about this game. I've got this game on SNES with the original box and manual plus I've got it on the Nintendo Switch🤟
The character sprites in the SNES game are quite large, it's likely that they had to pick between having more enemies on-screen, or keeping the shuriken.
Our old Aladdin's Castle in Fort Smith, AR had a unique cab with no Romstar logos only Taito logos. It was shorter monitors in a angle (kinda cabertish) all white where there was no art. Strange enough it did not stay long at that location even though it was very popular.
This game made a huge impression on me in my youth. There were like 2 arcades I ever went to that had Ninja Warriors. One of them kept it well into the 90's and they kept the volume on their cabinet loud. I distinctly remember putting in more money after losing and letting the continue timer run out so I could restart the 1st stage its music was so catchy and everything after that sounded so boring. If anyone hasn't seen the 100 other comments, the title of the 1st stage's music is Daddy Mulk. Keep listening for the bitchin' shamisen solo!
The game was probably inspired by Black Magic M-66 which ninja warriors has a similar premise to the movie: advance killer androids that are battling agaisnt military forces. The andriod also self destruct after being defeated, and they both came out in 87, well the game came out in 88.
Every time Pat has a new video, I say, "bring on the farts n queefs!" I was not disappointed with the new coined phrase, "QUEEFIEST!" But seriously, I've always been a fan of Beat 'em Ups and it's great when I find out about hidden gems like this.
You must have either grown up in or near the Quad Cities or still live there. I've been to every QC area location you've mentioned in your videos so far!
I felt the gameplay of this machine was a bit unimaginative because for a 'flat' horzontal scroller there weren't enough vertical movement - on games like Rolling thunder you'd have a top floor to jump to and boxes to use as cover - even Shinobi had platforms. In this you spent nearly all your time walking on a flat floor, a bit like playing Kung Fu master - but without the old school charm.
The SNES version is still my favorite. One of the best games on the system.
Loved this game in the arcade. That slow but menacing walk they had was so cool.
It was, and so is the animation

The arcade version I have never seen anywhere in the Netherlands at that time
Yay!!! Patman and I’m super early!! That coupled with the weed and beer buzz I couldn’t be happier rn!!
LOL, hope you enjoyed :-)
I haven't played this in soooo long!! Love your videos as always man! Keep up the good work.
LOL, that's hilarious
I have aliens on my list so I will get to it at some point. I will have to check the turtles tournament fighters
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries On Aliens I'm just messing with you since mostly every time I comment I'm always asking for it lol. But on the TMNTs tournament fighters, yeah look it up and compare the sounds and graphics.
I've heard about this game slightly, but the main theme is pretty catchy. I might try the Nintendo Switch one.
I remember when this was new. I tried it out and when I got to the part where you have to kill the dogs my little brother cried.
LOL and they make such a sad whimper as well
Wow! I've never seen these cabinets. I guess when I was a kid the arcades I had access to were too cheap to buy them.
I can't imagine what they would cost back in the day
I was not even able to enter any Arcade, because they were 18+ in my Place. They mixed it up with One-Armed Bandits and other Gambling, that's why. No Kids or Teens allowed. I could just look jealous at the nice pictures in Magazines.
Patman, hitten them with the Hein as always
LOL,I'm sure only a fraction of my audience will get that reference
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries itll our be secret code words....ok fla fla flo high?
I almost forgot about this one. Lately i was thinking of a 5 person shooter where everyone is a soldier and the guns are rifles. I think is came out in the late 90's.
The first level in arcade games is always a street. Nice video as always.
It's a army base lol.
Another banger vid my guy, keep it up!
Thanks! Will do!
This was a fun watch, I was only familiar with the SNES version and recent Switch remake.
Thank you very much
There is an original working Ninja Warriors cabinet in HEY Game Center in Akihabara Tokyo as of March 2020.
Cool, thanks for the info
Fantastic video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!Thanks
I always liked this serie as the Super Nes version might my alltimes favourite game. But you can easily finish the game without blocking. Throwing is most important thing to master in this game. I was also lucky to play the original arcade version the last time I was in Tokyo.
Excellent, I always wanted to go to Tokyo
Oh man I was wondering when somebody was gonna make a video about this game. I've got this game on SNES with the original box and manual plus I've got it on the Nintendo Switch🤟
Great work as always man.
Thank you very much my friend
I used to love that game. Thanks for posting this as I couldn't remember the name of it. =)
Very entertaining. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great music in this game!
Absolutely
Another excellent video!
Another awesome video! If it has the word “ninja” in it, I will give it a chance. Wish I could have played this one.
Thank you my friend
Excellent work and great video , Pat !!!! Thank you !!!!
Thank you too!
Thank you so much for those amazing Videos!
Glad you like them! Thank you so much
The character sprites in the SNES game are quite large, it's likely that they had to pick between having more enemies on-screen, or keeping the shuriken.
Yeah, the SNES can only display two sprite sizes at a time. It's such a bizarre limitation.
Our old Aladdin's Castle in Fort Smith, AR had a unique cab with no Romstar logos only Taito logos. It was shorter monitors in a angle (kinda cabertish) all white where there was no art. Strange enough it did not stay long at that location even though it was very popular.
I like how the channel is too classy to make jokes about robot ninja nuts... ;)
Where were you when I was writing my script ? LOL
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries LOL
Patman, you are clutch af. 🤘🏿🔥🤘🏿
Thank you
This game made a huge impression on me in my youth. Keep listening for the bitchin' shamisen solo!
one of my top favorites!! The ps4 remake was great!! But unfortunately if the characters die you have to start level from the beginning:(
I wasn't aware of that, thanks for the info
The game was probably inspired by Black Magic M-66 which ninja warriors has a similar premise to the movie: advance killer androids that are battling agaisnt military forces. The andriod also self destruct after being defeated, and they both came out in 87, well the game came out in 88.
Never have seen it so it's entirely possible

Every time Pat has a new video, I say, "bring on the farts n queefs!" I was not disappointed with the new coined phrase, "QUEEFIEST!"
But seriously, I've always been a fan of Beat 'em Ups and it's great when I find out about hidden gems like this.
LOL, Thank you. I feel the same way.
Great video as always
Glad you enjoyed
You must have either grown up in or near the Quad Cities or still live there. I've been to every QC area location you've mentioned in your videos so far!
Still live here, been here all my life. Nice to meet a local on here
If those soldiers ever learn to do more than just straight ahead those ninja will be in trouble.
