      Haha, yeah that's 35 years of grime on that bench and not well kept or organized by my brother, I only work on my equipment in there a few times a year, otherwise would look much different!

    Jason, thanks for taking the time to explain your planter setup. That older equipment seems easier to maintain than the newer electronic/vacuum planters.

      Also hope this cold snap doesn’t hurt your corn. It should be close to sprouting being a week later.

      Thanks Mike. Yes, working on our Kinzie 3600 12 row can be a real pain sometimes with so many different wires and hoses and sensors but at least the finger pick up units are basically the same as on my old John Deere

    • @wishwellfarms
      @wishwellfarms  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I’m not too worried about it, I’ve seen the corn get through much worse cold weather than what this is coming. The ground temperature is fortunately pretty warm and we’re gonna be in the upper 70s by Saturday. The corn currently has about an inch and a half taproot and about a half inch sprout so it should be poking through by the weekend.

      Thanks Tom, definitely takes a team of family members and employees to keep it all running smoothly!

    Ag express can fix that if it's repairable. We got a acre in yesterday, I can't stress enough of the importance of a monitor,.

      Yeah I know I totally agree, and on our grain operation we have all the bells and whistles for our 12 row Kinzie. After not using it on my sweetcorn and green bean planter for three years now I’ve gotten pretty lucky only having an issue once. Glad you got some corn in.

      With all the wind and heat last week, things dried out pretty good and we were able to get back out the fields pretty quickly but now it’s unseasonably cold and going to freeze tonight!

    Henbit deadnettle is a winter annual that sprouts in the fall and has purple flowers, mother nature's edible cover crop. I also got my first planting of 1/2 acre in Thursday, ground worked better than I thought, I chiseled all my corn ground last fall and then deep ripped it 24'' deep every two feet. It sure helped the wet spots dry out. Got an 1/4'' rain on it Thursday night and shouldn't crust.

      Sounds like you got a good start to the season! That darn henbit is thick in some places. I still haven’t gotten my 28 or my herbicide down yet since it’s been so wet and windy but I’m hoping Monday or Tuesday I can get it down before the corn spikes.

    Have you got videos on what herbicide and pesticides you use if you use any?

    • @wishwellfarms
      @wishwellfarms  Před měsícem +1

      I do have one where I talked about it briefly when I was doing a Crop update but I plan on doing another one next week because the corn is getting pretty big and almost ready to Tassel. We use many different herbicides to control weeds on our farm, so I will be sure to talk about it in the future video.

      @@wishwellfarms curious if you have thought about organics? Also love how you talked about the income from the markets and how much you need to get by, I think some content on the business would be very interesting! I’m from New Zealand and considering doing vegetable farming but more looking into organics. But not sure really.
