    Dear khurmi shows negative SF diagram in VDL and UDL case, but your SF diagram is positive.

      Sf diagram is from increasing to decreasing load ie from 4 to 0
      So it will be negative and the Bm diagram is trying to diverge the beam so it will be negative of three degree

    A cantilever beam 4 m long carries a gradually varying load, zero at the free end to 3 kN/m at the fixed end. Draw B.M. and S.F. diagrams for the beam.

      This teacher sucks.....
      First you have to understand what is positive bending moment and what is negative.. The usual sign convention is that bending moment is assumed as positive if the bending moment develops compression in upper portion and tension in lower portion of beam..for example in simply supported beam.
      and the bending moment is assumed as negative if it develops tension in upper portion and compression in lower portion of beam.. It’s easier to imagine that in cantilever beam, the upper portion gets elongated (in tension) and bottom portion gets shortened (in compression)..hence negative bending moment in cantilever beam.

    Sir for cantilever beams is there any fixed rule to consider section X-X from fixed end or free end? Kindly revert back.

      So you have to start adding forces from the free end because all these forces are supported by fixed support which has a vertical reaction and a moment. So when you start taking forces from the fixed end you have to consider it's moment and vertical reaction which will make you calculations bit complicated and in the end you have to calculate all the forces at fixed end so starting from the free end is the best way to solve cantilever. I've also mentioned it in my videos, kindly go through all cantilever Questions on civilocity and you'll get the idea of what I'm trying to say!
