@Bill Day this is the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard the Vatican aren't pulling any strings any where to get anyone Christian or otherwise killed and never did and believe me I'm not denying that some of the things they did do were downright sinister but the truth is they actually coluded with the British government to keep the Irish people in their place and got handsomely rewarded for it. Charles Stewart Parnell done more for Ireland than any other of our heroes he got the land back for the people so we could find a way out of poverty

That’s always the problem with settler colonialism. It automatically treats itself like the land was always theirs in a weird way. It’s the same in America and here in Canada. I often hear people saying that Canada was built for them by their ancestors completely ignorant that indigenous peoples can say the same and have had far more ancestors in these lands than us.

This is an old video, the old lad with the board and loudspeaker preaching to people who for the most party want nothing to do what he is saying. People just want to enjoy the 12th, have a drink and watch the bands. It is not about belonging or an identity we are clinging to, we know who and what we are and that is totally independent of what a future government does or doesn't do. If the Shetlands broke away from Scotland would they stop burning long boats?

Once the shoe is on the other foot these people will be treated with honour and respect, but, because some of their number never sought to treat others that way, their fears are magnified.
What will it take to calm the hysterics, and get down to brass tacks, the acceptance that we are all equal before our creator, we are all brothers and sisters and should live with respect, in peace.

We never treated who? Catch yourself on - look what happened to the Protestants in west Cork in 1922: murdered (bodies never found), raped (and most rapes go unreported), forced out of their work and homes. In 1922 they were Non-Combatants - it was a civil war between IRA and Staters - nothing to do with them. Innocent victims. And also the 222 dead Protestant babies in the Bethany Home. Southern Government let them starve. Infanticide. Shame on them.

I'm a Dublin lad, and as much as we all hate each other I've met many loyalists and had great craic with them. I find more in common with them than I would with someone from England or anywhere else but that's because I'm working class and so are the ones I've met living in Belfast over the many years I was there. Disagreed with lots of them but respected their culture and pride - just the same as mine. So whatever happens I hope they don't feel like we in the south hate them, I think deep down we understand them more than they even realise.
