    You can upgrade the firmware via downloading the philips software and connecting the included USB 3 cable to the monitor. Should fix the fan noise, as I never heard it after gaming and using it for one month. The features this has for gaming are actually quite impressive too, corrects too dark for fps with black level boost (level 1), RTS and Moba get manual monitor size (have to side scroll in aspect mode to achieve it) to down to 1440p 16:9 native fullscreen for games like dota 2, and the crosshair was also exceptionally well done on this monitor.

    There is no "coating" problem with QD-OLED's gray tint. Issue arises from the fact that blue OLED's that don't have any QD layer reflect back some of the outside light. This isn't fixable by coating, it is nature of the display technology itself and all Gen1 QD-OLED's will have same problem.
    Samsung did say they tried to improve this a bit with Gen 2 but issue still remains.

    • @whismerhillgaming
      @whismerhillgaming Před rokem +5

      So in short the reason would be that the blue LED is a passthrough layer instead of Quantum Dots for the other colors
      and since it's a passthrough layer there's a dome shaped scattering material for the blue LED
      and that it's this material that reflects ambiant light since it's job is to scatter whatever light gets shined onto it

    • @eduonkhl
      @eduonkhl Před 11 měsíci +1

      I've known this for over a year now and all tech youtubers ignored my comment so I'm happy that more people finally catch on. If you want to know what's causing this it's the light scattering particles integrated into the qd layer. This is done to improve efficiency since q dots are so small that you need a scattering layer to increase that chance for light to actually hit them. So a polarizer wouldn't solve the problem and that's besides the point that the display most likely has one anyway further back to reduce reflections from the glass substrate.
      There is more I could share if anyone is interested like how there are clear signs that's it a 4 stack design with 3 blue stacks and 1 green stack instead of the originally marketed 3 blue stacks.

    • @TvjaMonitori
      @TvjaMonitori Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@eduonkhlWhy there would be green stack with 3 blue layers as well? What are your sources for that?

    • @eduonkhl
      @eduonkhl Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@TvjaMonitoriSorry for the late reply. As far as I'm aware they couldn't get the green output that they wanted and the only sollution that seems to have worked is to add a green stack. Watch "Destroying a QD-OLED Part 1/2 from the CZcamsr NanoPalomaki and there are a few QD-OLED videos from the CZcamsr Tech Trip but I think he explains it best in his video Dissecting Samsungs's S95b!

      @TvjaMonitori Před 10 měsíci +1

      @gamehey Thanks! I watched both of his videos. Really intresting to think that they would be using green oled as well. As green can not get as easily to be displayed to the screen as blue light source can. And one would think that with green quantum dot you could easily get the green you want because of their properties. Intresting.

      @@PCMonitorsWhether or not it collects data (EULA would be a good start to finding that out), unnecessary reliance on software is never a good thing. It's inconvenient, doesn't work on all platforms and there's no gurantee it'll continue to work in the future. It's especially bad with things like robot vacuums and lawn mowers, I'd love to have one but spending that much money only to rely on a badly coded mobile app that barely works in the present is a hard no.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors Před rokem +3

      @@ozzyp97 I don't disagree and changing colour channels should definitely be possible with a simple OSD adjustment instead of using software. But that does still offer an alternative some will be happy to use and it's important to raise awareness that it is possible instead of taking a defeatest attitude of "it's broken and can't be fixed" (if colour channel adjustments are required). Philips SmartControl is also very lightweight software that even works via DDC/CI on non-Philips monitors for some basic functions, there's no reason to think it will "stop working" in the future as that hasn't been the case for previous models at all.

    What about the fan? Is it noisy? I saw an option to turn it off. Can the monitor work with the fan turned off? Is the fan audible in "silent" mode? The price 22.05.2024 is £648. And I wonder the reason for such a drastic price reduction. Thanks

    Heard of this fan ramp up and down in another review as well but can say with certainty that my model does not do that. I left it on auto and even after three hours of HDR gaming there is no difference and the noise is a constant sound (usually sounding like the air moving through the fan and less than the motor of a fan) that does not get louder or quieter.
    I have the latest firmware installed, but since this review is only one months old I guess it was tested with that same firmware.

    Hey Guys. I’ve been subbed to both your channels for a bit now and have been feverishly watching as many of your videos about 4K hdr monitors and have a big problems now. I want a 4K hdr monitor somewhere in the 27”-34” size as a secondary monitor. I was absolutely sold on the Samsung odyssey neo g7 but the big problem is they are sold out everywhere and I’ve checked everywhere with no luck. I even reached out to a Samsung rep who informed me that it is end of line for the g7 which means no more will be produced. I’ve looked at lg, ASUS, Sony, gigabyte, the Odyssey neo g8 and none have exceptional HDR or have scan lines issues. All my information and opinions are based on your videos. I’d really appreciate if you could recommend a 4K monitor in that size with strong hdr capabilities that rises above the rest. Thank you very much and keep up the amazing videos.

    Think it's odd you don't like the ambient glow QD-OLED has in the light when matte displays do the same thing. Just in this case it's a rare case of a glossy doing the same.

    • @PlayinWithMahWii
      @PlayinWithMahWii Před rokem +1

      I have a matte VA monitor next to my AW3423DWF, and when light hits both monitors, black levels are definitely darker on the VA. If I shut the curtains or shut off the lights, the DWF wins by far, but QD-OLED does have a noticeable pink tint when in the light.

    • @Skylancer727
      @Skylancer727 Před rokem

      @PlayinWithMahWii well from my experience the matte coating by nature makes the contrast drop in lighting. I mean, it's the whole point that it diffuses the light instead of reflecting it. I just don't think it's a great tradeoff. You can always tilt the screen or move the lights. Haven't heard much of the pink tint. I do know Samsung's anti reflection coatings on their TVs tend to add rainbowing, but I haven't heard much of pink tint. Last time I heard was that QD-OLED was fairly consistent color wise. I don't own one so I can't speak on it, but it sounds rather odd.
