It’s not a kid voice. It’s a broadway voice. Where you sing with a nasal sound or an “e” sound. I personally thought she went overboard on it.
It’s the same with my voice I m 13 and people say my voice is babyish but my vocal coach says it’s because of how high I sing ?
Some people really don’t know how to respect understudies and theatre actors in general.
Sophia is 18, Presley is 15, of course they aren’t going to sound the same, they’re different people. Both are absolutely amazing in their own ways and do Lydia justice.

THANK YOU i served as an understudy in a show I did at one point and it was soooo annoying when people would compare me to the other actor. Just because you don’t perform it the same way as the person you’re understudying doesn’t mean you have any less talent

I think it's ridiculous to constantly compare the understudies to the originals. Like it's ok to have favourites but each actor brings their own spark to the characters. Presley is amazing, and I really love what she brings to Lydia. Variety is good 😊

EXACTLY!! No two people have the EXACT same face and voice, you'll never get someone that looks and sounds JUST like the original actor. People have to accept that when a character gets a new actor, there will be some differences.

My favorite part about Presley playing Lydia is the fact that she’s the exact age that Lydia is. That like, NEVER happens in productions.

While Presley’s voice may be a hair less powerful than Sophia’s, her belting definitely sounds healthier than Sophia’s technique (Sophia is still amazingly talented though)

corey mathews belting (it’s what non-singers who don’t know what belting is would call yelling cause belting resembles yelling but is actually a singing technique singers, especially musical theatre singers, use when performing) I’ve seen videos Sophia singing live like this and when she belts out the long notes she sounds like she’s forcing them out which is the wrong way to belt. Presley however though her belt isn’t as strong as Sophia’s doesn’t sound like she’s forcing it.
Sierra Matthews Anyone Sophia’s age singing the same kind material she is for extended periods of time 8 shows a week is going to damage their voice. Her voice is nowhere near done developing.
Sierra Matthews There’s people out there with masters degrees in vocal performance who don’t just “know” if they’re singing in an unhealthy way. Expecting a teenage girl to sing this kind of material 8 shows a week is an extremely unhealthy expectation. Same with the Dear Evan Hansen kids. Their voices are in an extremely delicate period of growth and development. Having them constantly blow themselves out stunts that growth. There’s a big debate in the theatre world on if it’s even ethical to let them do so.
With that being said, Presley seems to be making much healthier choices. But she also has more time to train and let her voice grow naturally. She has time to rest. Case in point.

I’m Jisoo, I’m okay probably because Presley is 15 (if I’m not mistaken), whereas Sophia is 18. It’s likely easier for Presley to do a 13yo’s voice because she was 13 only 2 years ago! She sounds amazingly in character.

I love how both Presley and Sofia bring something unique to Lydia. Presley is more of an innocent yet strong character and she puts everything forward and spreads her vowels a lot, giving it a nasally sound in some places. Sofia’s version is dark and strong and has an edge. I love them both so much, amazing!!

It’s amazing how someone so young can understudy so much. She’s part of the ensemble and an understudy for the girl scout and Lydia. She does Lydia differently than Sophia, but it’s just as good in her own way. The casting is so goooood!!

Presley obviously doesn't have the exact same voice as a completely different human being, but honestly her voice really still embodies and sounds like Lydia to me. Yes, she isn't Sophia, but she's super talented and I'm impressed that she can sound as similar as she does to a character that she didn't originate. I'm sure the fandom will always be torn and most will probably prefer Sophia because she was "the original" or whatever, I get it, I prefer Sophia because that's the first voice I heard for Lydia (and shes also incredibly talented). But Presley nails Lydia, sings great, and if she sang it first instead, the world would be sitting here comparing and complaining about Presley's understudy instead. They're all talented, they all made my favorite musical happen, they all deserve massive amounts of respect

Y’all are so mean. She’s my fav Lydia and she single handily saved this show. I think she’s amazing and she was only 15 years old here. Also Lydia is supposed to be a kid not an adult so this voice makes a lot more since. Also Sophia was amazing but the way she sang was not sustainable for a long time and would’ve caused her severe vocal damage in the long run if she kept singing like that.

Stop saying she's doing "baby voice", shes 15 and her facial structure is completely different than Sophia's. The way your face is shaped effects the sound quality, she's naturally a soprano and can only hit so low considering her cords aren't fully developed yet.
