  • Parts you will need:
    1. 3m x 1.5mm stainless steel wire rope. Use 7 x 7, 49 strand for flexibility.
    2. 2 x 5mm dia x 6mm aluminium ferrules with 1.7mm dia hole. Buy some spares!
    3. 2 x 6mm dia x 8.5mm aluminium ferrules with 1.7mm dia hole. Buy some spares!
I bought the parts from ebay.
The wire length distances between ferrules on my particular mechanism were:
    1. Motor spool end to rear slider = 1143mm
    2. Rear slider bottom to front slider top = 1160mm
    3. Front slider bottom to motor spool = 934 - 994mm
Don’t cut and crimp the last part until everything is assembled and you can gauge the compression in the springs. Ignore what I showed in the video, make sure that the 2 springs are compressed as far as they can go.
Please check your own measurements from your broken regulator before you crimp and cut.
You may want to apply some silicone grease to the cable and the mechanism but I don't know how long it will last, there was certainly none left anywhere on mine.

Thanks for this brilliant tutorial, it was invaluable, couldn't have done it without it. I replaced the whole regulator as I didn't fancy fitting a new cable and it wasn't too expensive for the whole new part. I found the trickiest part was removing the parts that hold the glass in place. If you're replacing the whole regulator as I did, it was very easy to run a hacksaw blade where the glass is held (flush to glass on outside) and cut off the plastic that goes through the hole. I was a bit worried I'd break the glass when pushing the clip but if you just saw through it then you can't really break the glass.

Thanks for this. I was lucky enough to get a secondhand regulator but this video was a big help, esp with getting pins out of glass

Thanks for this tutorial. I have a 2013 Superb, it's slightly different and I've got to admit I found replacing the mechanism bloody frustrating. Watching you helped quite a bit but I still ended up with bruised and cut hands.

If you remove the small grab handle cover (just pops out) then you can lever out the window switches from underneath - with no fear of damaging any trim - Otherwise, great!
