  • The "Round the Horn" segments occurred mostly in 1990 and 1991, then one final segment in 1993. The running joke was cameraman Bailey Stortz's entries.
The collection begins with an unscripted moment from 1984.
    A. March 12, 1984. Vacation:
with Paul Shaffer, Barry Sand, Bill Wendell, Hal Gurnee, Pete Fatovich, Brian McAloon, and Barbara Gaines
Then three pre-"Round the Horn" prototypes:
    B. February 3, 1988. Sit-ins
with Paul Shaffer and Dr. John; Bill Wendell and Don Pardo; Bailey Stortz and "Mike Cameranan" (Brian McAloon); "Kevin" (Donna Kelly) and "Doug" (Deidre Dodd); and Hal Gurnee and "Art Dickerson" (Clem Rivera).
    C. June 6, 1989. Pledges, 1
with Paul Shaffer, Hal Gurnee, Anton Fig, Al Maher, Bailey Stortz, and Jeff Martin.
    D. January 9, 1990. Pledges, 2
with Dave, Hal Gurnee, Al Maher, and Paul Shaffer
The segments were hereafter codefied as "Round the Horn":
    1. July 18, 1990. Lovely Beverages
with Pau Shaffer, Biff Henderson, Robert Morton, Bailey Stortz, "Rose" (Laurie Diamond), Al Maher, Hal Gurnee, and "Jack & Donny" (Jack Rollins and Bob Welsh).
The structure was modified from this point forward into a relay approach:
    2. September 19, 1990. Where i Stand
with Dave, Paul Shaffer, Robert Morton, Bailey Stortz, Laurie Diamond, Al Maher, Hal Gurnee, and Pete Fatovich.
    3. October 4, 1990. What Fall Means to Me
with Dave, Paul Shaffer, Anton Fig, Robert Morton, Bailey Stortz, "Rose" (Laurie Diamond), Al Maher, and Larry "Bud" Melman.
    4. November 21, 1990. What I'm Thankful For
with Dave, Paul Shaffer, Anton Fig, Robert Morton, "Rose" (Laurie Diamond), Bailey Stortz, Al Maher, and Larry "Bud" Melman.
    5. December 13, 1990. Christmas Wishes
with Dave, Paul Shaffer, Robert Morton, Biff Henderson, "Rose" (Laurie Diamond), Bailey Stortz, Al Maher, Police dog (voice of Chris Albers), Hal Gurnee, and Pete Fatovich.
    6. December 27, 1990. New Year's Resolutions
with Dave, Paul Shaffer, Robert Morton, Biff Henderson, "Rose" (Laurie Diamond), Al Maher, Hal Gurnee, and Larry "Bud" Melman.
    7. May 2, 1991. Breaking the Rules
with Dave, Paul Shaffer, Anton Fig, Robert Morton, Biff Henderson, Bailey Stortz, "Rose" ILaurie Diamond), and Al Maher.
    8. June 4, 1991. Advice to Graduates
with Dave, Paul Shaffer, Anton Fig, Robert Morton, Marv Albert, Bailey Stortz, "Rose" (Laurie Diamond), Joe Gorta, and Biff Henderson, and Marv Albert again
    9. July 11, 1991. How to Save [the Network] Money
with Dave, Paul Shaffer, Robert Morton, "Kevin" (T.C. Laughlin), Bailey Stortz, Al Maher, Network Nurse Theresa Carbonaro, and Biff Henderson.
    10. September 26, 1991. What I LIke About Autumn
with Dave, Paul Shaffer, Anton Fig, Robert Morton, Bailey Stortz, "Rose" (Laurie Diamond), Al Maher, and Biff Henderson and Larry "Bud" Melman.
    11. November 19, 1991. Cure for the Common Cold

This is magnificently abstract. As always, in compliment, I am astounded by the task of editing and compiling these collections thematically. It’s not your average time-capsule. It mirthfully represents a New York street-lens on American culture and beyond. I believe the magic of these productions fell brilliantly between the goofy plans of the writers/staff/guests and the candor/chaos of the random individual/guest or audience. It upsets me a bit to feel such an overwhelming nostalgia for quality programming but I’m just thankful to revisit and catch all the shows that I’d missed as well. Amazing effort

That part with Larry Melman and the leaves....stupid and yet I keep watching and laughing.
Good Lord, I sometimes forget how much I loved this show. Thanks again, Don.

    Don Giller,
You don’t know me, but I’m the man, once a kid, who hoped someone was taping this stuff so I could enjoy it again in middle age. Thank you and keep it coming. Perhaps you might try to score an interview with Dave? I’ll bet it would be entertaining to see what he recalls about some of these episodes.

I think Bailey was referring to Brian as "Mike Hanrahan." Although "Cameranan" would have been funnier.
The Don Pardo segment was included in a highlight reel that was compiled for Pardo's retirement party.

@@dongiller Is it possible to edit out whatever they find objectionable and repost? Why would they target just those six uploads?

    • @dongiller
      @dongiller  Před 5 lety +2

In every other situation, at least on my channel, NBCU pinpoints passages (start- and end-times) they choose to block. In these recent cases, they blocked the entire video. Here are the victims:
Pages 50th Anniversary on Late Night, December 27, 1983
David Letterman on Tomorrow, September 22, 1980
Albert Brooks on Late Night, November 24, 1982
Howard Stern on Late Night, Part 1: 1984
The Arnie Barnes Collection on Late Night, January-September1986
NBC Page Jill Goldstein Collection on Late Night, 1991
I challenged them all via the "fair use" option. NBCU rejected five; I'm still awaiting their decision on the remaining sixth, which is the Arnie Barnes collection.
All "manually detected." Which means they'll likely find more to block. I'm just surprised they haven't yet.
