1 CUP SUGAR
3-4 CUPS STEAMED SWEET POTATOES
1/2 STICK MARGARINE OR SALTED BUTTER
2 EGGS
1/2 CUP EVAPORATED MILK
1 TSP. VANILLA EXTRACT
1/4 TSP. CINNAMON
TOPPING INGREDIENTS:
1/2 STICK SALTED BUTTER (ROOM TEMPERATURE)
1 CUP BROWN SUGAR
1/8 CUP SELF-RISING FLOUR

This is also how I make my sweet potato casserole, but a couple of years ago I started adding a teaspoon of maple syrup to the potato mixture, and I used crushed Graham Crackers instead of the flour for the topping.
My oldest son said Mom that’s what I want for my birthday.
I'm just a smidge older than you, Tammy, and I am a born and raised southerner, too. I grew up on this recipe, the only difference being the addition of golden raisins in the middle and coconut in the topping, as my Dad liked it that way. I can really speak to its goodness, because I really love it, too! No matter how much you make, there is never any leftovers! I suggest, to those who have never tried it, if you make to take to a dinner, you better make some extra that never leaves the house, or I can guarantee you will miss out! I have made that mistake only once, in my life, but never again! Learned that lesson the hard way! 😉😋

Gorgeous recipe!! I went to a thanksgiving dinner 10 years ago where they served a sweet potato casserole similar to this one. They served it with the savoury side dishes. It might sound a bit weird but this casserole was right at home on my plate right next to the turkey and stuffing and cranberry sauce and bean casserole. That delicious memory still lives rent free in my mind. ❤❤ That was in North Carolina where i went to college.
Oh my goodness! I thought about this dish a few days ago. I’m making it for thanksgiving dinner . The last time I had it was this past July at our church dinner. I love it so much…Mrs. Loretta made it she’s 80 years old and I could have ate that and nothing else..😊
My momma makes it and few times during the year. It is just so yummy.

I have made this since 1970. I got the recipe from a friend. Given I cannot stand the marshmallows (too sweet) it hits just right. I use no flour In the potatoes, just the topping. I also sometimes use canned coconut milk if anyone is coming who is lactose intolerant.

That looks just like how my Mom makes hers. It is one of my favorite side dishes at Thanksgiving and if there is Any leftover Mom will send some home with me. I am going to try and get her recipe and see if there is Any difference. Sadly Thanksgiving and Christmas is the only time I get it. Now I can have it more often Thanks to You!😘

I've never made my Sweet Potato Pie like I did my Soufle! Thats different! The only thing different in your Soufle and Pie is the Crust! Its like a Sweet Potato Soufle Pie! I'll sure its good! My sister makes this every year for Thanksgiving and I’ve never tasted it. I make mine like my son likes it and that’s just preseasoned canned sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top. I made the casserole one year and he didn’t like it. I’m definitely not making both since we’re the only two that eats it. This looks delicious Tammy. ❤❤

Baking your sweet potatoes whole and mashing with a potato masher will save washing a lot of dishes plus no water in your potatoes.
The steamed potatoes do not have water in them

I absolutely love sweet potato casserole with the brown sugar pecan topping. We do have marshmallows also and it’s good but it’s not the brown sugar pecan topping. Lord has my mouth watering now 😂!!
