Daemon is the best character on the show hands down
I'd agree. I thought Viserys was a wonderful character, but Daemon is even more complex and interesting. A likeable villain.

These House of the Dragon characters certainly have a lot of dynamic to them. They're all unique in more ways than one.
Alicent is my favorite from the moment she showed up to the feast in GREEN then when she snapped and wanted retribution for her son losing an eye was chaotic and iconic!!
I like alicent as a character, and would debate whether she's really been a villain up to this point. She has her family's interests always at heart, but shows a lot of empathy and humanity towards Rhaenyra, even after they become estranged. Otto is far more of a villain and is the one who encourages Alicent's more ruthless side.
We like Daemon, not because he’s a bad/good guy (depending on your interpretation), but because he’s entertaining.

What I don't get is Criston and Daemon are parralels.
They both do the same shit, (although I'd say daemon commits way more atrocities), yet Criston is hated and Daemon is beloved.
It ain't even a handsomeness thing, tbh most people tell me Criston looks more handsome too.

@@stephaniefaye4754 At face value maybe, but criston essentially was a guy who took his vows seriously.
He had a vow to never have sex, and so when he hooked up with rhaenyra he wanted to salvage some of the honor he felt he lost by turning his back on his oaths. Also to be fair if your princess tells you to do have sex with her... she can kinda get you killed if you say no.
Daemon mind you took his own niece to several brothels and began hooking up with her.
Criston was whiney as hell, but daemon acts like a petulant child when things don't go his way. Lashing out at messengers, anyone who tells him the truth, and let's not lie... is pretty abusive to rhaenyra (choking out a pregnant woman).
Let's also not forget he killed his wife, a random black dude, and vaemond who was pretty much killed for dropping truth bombs.
At least criston's 1 kill is an accident, and his other one is because he was actively getting blackmailed (although I really don't know how he got out of that).

Viserys (complex in a kind of ignorant and pitiable way)
Aemond (complex in an underdog sort of way)
Alicent (you understand why she thinks the way she does, isn't a simple villain but a person who cares for her kids and is wayy more likeable than cersei).
Larys (downright diabolical)
Olivia Cooke elevated Alicent to another level. She was fucking amazing, I wasn't the biggest fan of Alicent in the book, but she was definitely a compelling character in the show
Easily Viserys. Most sympathetic character and the one I felt for the most. Also, Paddy Considine gave an incredible performance.

C'mon! It could only be George R.R. Martin's favorite Targaryen at #1. Nice fake out by WatchMojo with Cole though. Before House of the Dragon, Daemon Targaryen was the most anticipated character from book readers. I would see polls and Daemon was #1 for character they were most excited for.
The previous 2-3 years before HOT D aired, I would read comments like this fan can't wait for Daemon to be in live-action form. How he's such a badass. So Daemon's popularity was already established years before. He was popular before GRRM started saying Daemon is his favorite Targaryen back in 2018.
I compare Daemon's popularity a lot to Darth Vader and Iron Man. Vader is the villain in Star Wars but he's still the most popular character in SW. The poster boy of the franchise. Tony Stark can be a real a-hole and he's still the most popular from MCU. Daemon is equally light and dark and he's still the most popular even with the writers trying to make him look worse!
I remember early on, Jody's Corner and Akasan did not really understand Daemon's character like Sara Hess. I think they're starting to warm up to him now. They're starting to get him. Daemon can be a very exciting character because he's unpredictable. He can be ruthless and then be heroic in the very next scene.
First time we all saw Daemon on TV, he was sitting on the Iron Throne and then flirting with his 14-year niece in High Valyrian. Then we watch him massacre people with the City Watch/Gold Cloaks. By that point, I was already nodding my head with approval and telling myself, I LIKE THIS GUY! 🤣 He was going to be a problem but he's a fun problem to watch.
Check out polls on different CZcams channels and Daemon basically wins every popularity poll in a landslide. I didn't vote between Daemon vs. Jaime last month because I love Jaime too. But I only found out today on Twitter that Daemon beat Jaime 76% to 24%. 🤣 And Jaime is a very popular character from GOT.
Daemon really is the Elvis Presley/Axl Rose of Westeros. He's Vader/Iron Man of his franchise. He's truly a Targaryen ROCK STAR. Even the actors who portrayed older Jace and Luke say Daemon is their favorite. I know HOT D is Rhaenyra's story and I love her too. But Daemon has to be #1 because Matt Smith is what makes HOT D tick. Daemon is the special sauce. He's the Michael Jordan of GRRM's lore.
Real quick, I will say Paddy Considine was the best actor of Season 1. But since we only got him for 8 episodes, we really can't place Viserys at #1. Viserys is a minor character in F&B and Paddy gave him amazing depth. Be a crime if Paddy doesn't win an Emmy. And I hear Paddy is like the nicest guy to work with. Very fun-loving. Same applies to "Matt Daemon".
I'm excited getting my black Rogue Prince/Daemon hoodie from Redbubble. Not a fan of the iPhone case I got for it. It's a glossy plastic and the logo wasn't centered. But I think I'll love the hoodie. Steven from Nikki & Steven React has the same artwork but his is a t-shirt. Black with a red print matches my New Era Targaryen sigil hat perfectly.

Yes, I'll list Aegon and Criston. As unlikeable as both of them are, they are important characters for the Greens. It's a civil war between Rhaenyra vs. Aegon. Aegon will probably move up as the seasons progresses. Can't wait when we see more of Sunfyre.
I really was thinking of putting Laenor and Larys but I'll go with those two. We really didn't know too much of Laenor except he's gay and he's a nice guy. Larys is just creepy. He's probably the most evil over Otto, Aegon, and Daemon. But I'm not sure he was as integral to the plot as Criston and Aegon were in Season 1.
Aemond will move up my ranks but we only saw him in 4 episodes. Ewan Mitchell didn't really wow me until Ep 10 when he yelled to Lucerys, GIVE ME YOUR EYE! I can't wait who they cast for Alys Rivers. Please let it be Liz Olsen to see her naked again like we did in Oldboy! 😂 Can't wait for Cregan Stark, Daeron Targaryen, and Nettles as well.
I'm really missing HOT D. I'm probably speaking for a lot of people going through this Long Night/withdrawals without it. I no longer visit CZcams reactors' channels. I do miss Nikki & Steven React, SeanTankTop, Sesskasays, Pilar, etc. I miss watching my weekly HOT D pals. Oh, well. We'll get there. Hopefully by April/May 2024, Season 2 is out.

We've only had 1 season of HOT D, so I can only have Daemon at 7th right now. But he can definitely move up to top 5 territory because I got a feeling Indiana Jones 5 is going to be terrible and make Kingdom of the Crystal Skull look like a masterpiece. Thanks, Kathleen.
Shout-out to the Blackwood boy and Lady Redwyne's pug! Though I think you should have added Vhagar to the Real Top 10, she really showed pathos and great acting chops in her scenes ('chops' being the operative word in the scenes with Arrax and Lucerys).
Larys Strong = Littlefinger and Otto Hightower = Tywin Lannister. You could have mentioned Criston Cole, Laena Velaryon and maybe even Lyonel Strong and Aemma Arryn as honourable mentions.
Alicent Hightower = Cersei Lannister.

Watched this season at least 5 times in full, and I love the top rankings. I thought that after the first episode Daemon was the standout character, and I was worried he would completely overshadow the rest of the cast. But Viserys' character development coupled with his bodily decay was one of the most tragically beautiful progressions in recent memory. Such a good man, even if he was a poor king. And Rhaenyra is awesome too. Her majesty.

Book Aemond is an idiot that doesn’t do much besides commit genocide in the riverlands. He’s the weakest asset on team green because he doesn’t help them win any battles
Something tells me that Aegon the Second, and both Blood and Cheese will be on the next list, when season 2 comes out.
Aegon already is on my list because Tom (Glynn-Carney, older Aegon) gives him so much depth
He goes from a drunken boy in the window (shoutout to Ty Tenannt) to a ra..., someone who doesn't even want the throne, who is abused over the years - don't misunderstand I do think that Alicent loves him in her way but she doesn't show him much love and if he has to ask "Do you love me?" that tells us so much. We see his "empty eyes" as the crowning begins, we see that he doesn't really want this until the crowd starts cheering and he gets the validation he so desperately seeks.
In ep8 when Alicent confronts him he tells her that he tries so hard but it's never enough.
And because of that he's already way more interesting than in example Larys

Daemon is GOATed but King Viserys won the first season for me.
I will always be conflicted with Rhaenys character, she's okay compared to others but she had the opportunity to prevent an all out war and left her future enemies unscathed...she's praised for her maturity but common sense.....

I have to admit that since we got the older versions of all the children..Aegon is one of my favourite characters. And yes I know he's a rapist and all that but lemme just put it that way...
First of all...I think we can all agree when I say Hats off for Tom's portrayal of Aegon. He really did an incredible job and (with sometimes only his facial expressions)...gave so much depth to his character. (Ty was awesome too but younger Aegon spent most of his time yawning and being a pain in the ass lmao) ...
Second of all....once you know what Aegon has been through it's really hard not to feel bad for him.
Just imagine..your father barely knowing that you exist and the only time he does is when he shouts at you....your mother having her mind poisoned by your grandfather who's a power-thirsty man doing everything for his benefits.... and so they push you into some huge thing that you don't want and even express that but noone is there to hear you...while all you crave is being loved or just being heard/noticed by your parents....
And honestly.... under Aegon's disgusting alcoholic-rapist body there's actually hidden a lonely, unwanted and broken soul just craving to be free.

These are not necessarily the characters I liked the best (though my two favorites, Corlys Velaryon and his wife Princess Rhaenys are on the list), but the ones I found the most compelling and/or interesting. Vhagar makes the list because she has a multifaceted personality - we see her reluctance to kill Laena and then hear her mourning for Laena; and later watch her transform into the vicious war-dragon she was of old as she pursues Arrax and Lucerys.
Daemon and rhaenarya are my favorite characters I also like lord corlys visareys and rhaeneys my apologies for any misspelled names

For me he's just meh... I think people hate Criston Cole because of how incongruent the character is. I don't know if is just bad writing or because of the actor playing him, but he's too boring. At least with Daemon you want to know what he's doing next.
