Kilauea Eruption Update: Lava Lake Dome Fountain Emerges (Jan. 5, 2021)

- While no major changes in the summit eruption have been observed, scientists have been documenting the evolution of the active west vent, which continues to feed lava flows into the lake below.
This video contains information on the new dome fountain at the surface of the lava lake, as well how the lake is becoming "perched" in the caldera.
A synthesized voice was utilized in the narration for this story. Video and photos are from the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
This channel is the only reason I knew this was even happening none of the news stations have anything on this
I was just thinking the same thing. Mainstream news will only pick up on this if it erupts, the eruptions are dealing with right now is much bigger.
Who cares about reality?
Does the volcano have covid ?
yep all they report is trump and covid 24/7
Because when God sends a prophetic word they make sure the intelligence report is not passed on.

Looks all pretty and then he goes "approximately 16ft high"

...only 16 feet?
And then "6 acres"
@@greysonbeato5919 did you even watch the video?
Yeah, this, pretty much , I'm French, I gasped when I found the equivalence in metric : 5m
@@julese7790 And I thought it was just 3 arms wide and then I learned it's 154 noses high. That's about as big as 4 medium sized elephants without their trunks and toenails clipped. I mean, you get the picture, right? It must weigh around 340000 toenails which is the equivalent to 999999999 nosehairs. That's pretty big. Not as big as the largest dinosaur though, which was at least 45000 thumbs high.
This channel has by far the best Kilauea coverage. Better than the USGS, any official agency, and any media station.

I genuinely, *genuinely* did not even notice. I can hear it rather noticeably now that I'm listening closely for it, but wow. Crazy.
@FichDich InDemArsch Check the description. It says "synthesized voice". Based on a real voice, of course. I imagine it's a similar process as the one described in this video: czcams.com/video/p5onpLkhq50/video.html .
That's not a real person's voice? Whoa
@FichDich InDemArsch no, it’s an AI deep fake voice.
This is the best synthesized voice ever. Sounds totally natural and conversational. Please share it with everyone else who uses synthesized voices. Thank you for keeping us informed.
If you're right and this is a synthetic voice, then I'm blown away. I was certain it was a human voice. After I saw your comment, I went back and listened to a bit of it again. Now I'm less certain. I must know the truth!
@@Duncan_Idaho_Potato i just read the description, it says it is synthesized so yup, wow

I was there in early 1962. I was 12 and we vacationed in Hawaii. Toured the crater and walked the trail on the lava crust. The pictures we took from inside the crater looks like you are on Mars. The crust was a reddish color and the only horizon you saw was the rim of the crater. Very eerie feeling. There also used to be a restaurant on the rim of the interior crater.

Well since it's a robo voice, it's not surprising that it's consistent...
that robo voice that's awfully good. I don't doubt the technology is advancing rapidly.
@@BruceLortzHI The more I listen it, the more I think it isn't entirely artificial. I've listened to a few videos, sometimes I think I hear a subtle huff of air or inhale. Or a slight hiss on s sounds. I wonder if it's spoken by an actual person, but 'auto tuned' into the voice we hear? Or if a actual person speaks and a computer copies what they say mimicking the tones and inflictions? Maybe tech really has advanced that much, our future robot overloads will have soothing and pleasing voices at least.
@@shaymayca1 The air sounds are there to make it sound more realistic, just like the rest in fact. What's the point of trying to imitate a human voice if you artificially set limits to what your program can imitate? Why wouldn't it inhale? It's like if you had built a self driving car and then wondered why it avoids a pothole; I mean, sure it's not the first thing you need to learn when driving, but it certainly is a part of it.
@@unutilisateur4729 I can see your point somewhat, but I still find it really hard to believe that a '100% artificial voice' can mimic human speech (and subtle errors) so flawlessly. As another person pointed out, why does a place like Big island news have this incredible technology, but there hasn't been anything like this from google or apple? Seems strange.
Watching the lava is mesmerizing and relaxing to watch it flow.

I think most of them are USGS videos, but whoever put this report together did a truly excellent job of assembling them and writing narration.

This is amazing! I watched the 2018 eruption footage as well. In 2010, I was on the Big Island visiting Volcanoe's National Park and did see the crater as it typically is without lava but with smoke and steam vents instead. I was lucky to have been able to see the lava flow into the ocean from a safe distance and walked on brand new 2 month old lava nearby where a new black sand beach had been created from the nearby ocean lava flow. It is amazing to see Mother Earth (and Pele) at work creating new land and growing the island!
Thanks for the excellent video. Short, graphic, clear, informative, and just well done in every way.
2:05 is actually a scan of my brain melting in quarantine
The good thing is that you are in quarantine. If you were exposed or had the virus, don't go out as soon as your quarantine ends. Lots of people have actually spread it once quarantine was over, so just lay low for a while. One woman in china got out of quarantine, and had dinner parties for 2 weeks. Watching in fascination that lava lake ..it’s the one minute lesson in plate tectonics I always wanted !
Actually, Stephen, Hawaii is located in the middle of the Pacific plate, far away from any plate boundaries. Hawaii sits on a 'hot spot' in the middle of the plate, and that hot spot created the islands. Lo'ihi, is an active submarine volcano; it's located about 22 miles off the southeast coast of the Big Island. It is estimated to emerge in 10,000 to 100,000 years then, they'll probably start building hotels on it...Volcanoes are awesome!
