      It's quicker because instant torque that EV's have but, not faster. The Plaid possibly can hit 200mph with proper wheels, otherwise, it goes around 160-170mph.. The Bugatti on the other hand has a 300mph model, so your statement that Tesla is faster is not valid

Photos of this run with Jay Leno driving and the amazing 9.2 second, 151MPH 1/4 mile time were all over the internet at the time because even though Tesla claimed a similar acceleration numbers on their order website, this was the first sign that it could actually be this amazingly quick and fast when measured at a drag strip. Even though it has bee a long wait to see this video, and we have all seen even quicker times since then, it was still great to see Jay excited beforehand, and pleased/relieved after he broke the record. Plus, I think to qualify as a production car they must build at least 30(???). I'm not sure Rimac have built 30 or 50 Nevera cars yet. I paid 6k out the door in the 90s for a Suzuki Bandit GSF 1200 ( on a whim one day wanting a 10 second machine) because it was the fastest 0-60- 1/4 mile bike at the time. Not a sport bike with 14K redline but an engine made specifically for sport cruising and drag pulls. Gave the Suzuki Dealer 6k ( New) and road home having road motorcyles mu whole life since I was 9 in the 70s but no litre class sport bike experience. I have driven a tesla and it doesn't compare to twisting the throttle on that on a street with stuff on either side that gives the ACTUAL FEELING OF GOING INTO HYPERSPACE as stuff blends and your are trying to get your 200 lbs over the front a bit because your front wheel is hovering off the pavement just slightly .
      I was running on a straight nearly 100 mile long road ( Ocean Pkwy LI NY) at 160+ indicated one day and cracked the throttle with A Honda XXX Blackwing I think it was called and the dude crouched and slingshotted away like I was stationary .150-160 on a bike without clip ons and crotch rocket seating . a thought goes through your brain in a millisecond , like REALLY ? You realize your are a temporary being that could cease to exist in less then a blink.
      The Tesla Shoves you in a seat in that digital on off way but pilot a street bike to 60 with the front wheel barely touching the ground in 2. whatever and STAY IN IT . Mine had a Kit installed that Jetted the carbs , opened the intake and exhaust and a timing advance kit later on that made it supposedly a 9 second capable bike . I know bikes are even crazier now but that Bandit had the LEGENDARY 1150 Suzuki Air oil cooled engine that most drag bikes used similar to how old drag cars had some engine based on a hemi type engine ONLY DESIGNED for a powerband for drag that did NOT need to be spun and had per weight about the same tourque as a tesla on 2 wheels for 6k new . Even my friends withe sport bikes were always eager to trade just to get their arms insta stretched.

      But fans of Tesla is quite close minded to anything else happening outside the brand. The 9.2 times set by Jay and Tesla are not world records. An 8.58 quarter mile for the Rimac Nevera was recorded by Drag Times back in August. "Barely faster" is a pretty dissmissive view of what the Rimac has achieved. Decreasing these times further becomes a game of diminishing returns, as reliability and usability need to be considered. It's a very different scenario to building a 2,000HP purpose built drag car. Consider that the Rimac Nevera was the first EV to topple the fastest ICE production car in the world at any point in history.

      Well it really can’t. The limitation is the battery. It needs an extremely high output. One way to get that is use high output cells, but they don’t last very long, so degradation is accelerated. If tesla decreased the battery size, the power would drop by maybe 200hp cuz you need a big battery to supply lots of current.

    • @flipadavis

      Each cell in a pack has a maximum c-rate for discharge. You need a big pack with lots of cells in modules and series to get enough power for that kind of speed. 2/3rds the amount of cells would mean 2/3rds of the output since you can't squeeze a higher discharge rate from each cell.

    I suspect that the 1/4 mi time isn’t up to the driver all that much, if at all. It’s software driven. And probably assisted steering or completely auto.
    So, you would just have to issue the launch command. After entering 2-3 passwords. Maybe you’d have to drive up and down the track so the software could map the course for any slight variations.

    Probably a dumb question, but are they still doing track times by using the red/amber/green light system, or is that just for show? I understand the lights in a head to head race, but when just measuring track times, I'd think tech would be at the point where they can just measure exactly where and when a car starts to where and when it hits the quarter mile mark.

    They have to update the brakes though, with a 1020 hp they should be much better. Check throttlehouse they almost ran out of runway - not good with so much power - but still love it :)

    • @addictedtopussy69
      @addictedtopussy69 Před 2 lety

      maybe the problem is the runway they chose to test cars on was too short. Its a heavier car thats trapping 160mph then they need to be on a longer track which would be the appropriate thing to do. i saw that video, they seem anti tesla or maybe a bit drama with little negative comments here and there about tesla. when you run out of room on your test track then its not the cars fault.

      @@addictedtopussy69 Think their review was ok, but other have taken it to the track, and the brakes overheat in an instant, it should have bigger discs, or ceramic - its a bit irresponsible to up the power x2 and not look at the stopping performance - could be dangerous to the inexperienced driver
