Oh God. I remember the '79 final. I was 9 and that weekend was staying at my uncle's. With 10 minutes left, I got fed up as United looked nowhere near scoring, so went outside to kick a football against the makeshift goal I had in anger. He then calls me from the kitchen door to say United had scored. I run in to watch the replay but only a few minutes left, so went back outside again. Almost immediately, he's at the door again telling me they'd scored again!! WTF?? So I run back in and this time decide to stay to watch the inevitable extra time. Within a minute or two, ALAN FUCKING SUNDERLAND scores. When the cross came in, I was shouting at the screen to tell United's dozy defenders that Sunderland was free. Of course, they didn't listen. Ball watching at its finest.
Fun fact, "fucking" is actually his middle name....

Gordon Smith's miss against Man U was caused because a) Mick Robinson bottled out and b) the pass he gave Smith was both totally unexpected & absolutely terrible. Of course Smittie should have scored but he should not have had to. Robinson got away with it in the press & at the club so let's put the record straight
