- A playthrough of Activision's 1989 combat flight simulator for the NES, Stealth ATF.
I fly fifteen missions in this playthrough, playing until I get a game over. The missions loop after the eighth, so there is no ending.
Stealth ATF is a military-style combat flight sim that plunks you, a novice fighter pilot, down in the cockpit of an F-117 Nighthawk, the titular "advanced tactical fighter". After completing a quick training session, you'll be sent around the world in a series of late Cold War-era missions that'll help you climb your way through the ranks.
Each of these sorties play out the same way: after the briefing, you take off, wipe out the incoming enemy fighters with a mix of dogfighting and missile fire (and, if you clear all the enemies without taking any damage, play a bonus round), and finally, return to base to safely land the plane.
The game plays a lot like Konami's Top Gun ( • Top Gun (NES) Playthrough ), but with a greater focus on realism. The controls are extremely smooth once you get used to the feel of banking and tracking enemies jets, and the AI does a nice job at providing a challenge without making things feel too impossible. The graphics and sound are simple but effective, the music is catchy, and the entire package comes together quite nicely.
Imagineering was one of the best when it came to military-style combat sims for the NES, and Stealth ATF is my favorite of the ones they made. If you can look beyond the limitations that the 8-bit hardware places on it, you'll find a lot of fun here.

NintendoComplete (www.nintendocomplete.com/) punches you in the face with in-depth reviews, screenshot archives, and music from classic 8-bit NES games! - Hry
Stealth ATF is one of my favorite flight combat sims on the NES. It's dated, but it's still a lot of fun.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love the music in this game because of how simple it is, plus it's a decent title for being from 1989
This game, and Ghoul School (another Imagineering-developed title), were one of the few Imagineering-developed games that were not-and I repeat, NOT-scored by Mark Van Hecke; instead, the honors went to the late Russell Lieblich (1953-2005), who later did the soundtrack for the SNES version of NHL 95.
@@danalong1237 Thanks for the information, the truth is I didn't know about it, also this game and Ghoul School were for me the most decent games imagineering.
Oh man I used to have this game! It's what got me into stealth planes.
Advance tactical fighter
I want a revive of this game, breakthru, Russian assault, cobra triangle these cool games made growing up as a kid in the 80s so worth it.
mmm... yes... an F-117 that carries missiles and has a machine gun. 🙃
Well, it seems to be fighting (evil?) SR-71s which are also armed, so we're in full on alternate universe here.
My brother and I had this bad boy 😊 Thank you bud!!!
0:39 dude the cutscene of the part where the plane has to take off sounds like relaxing ASMR for NES!
They clearly hired the wrong guy for a mil sim fighter jet OST.
Lockheed F-117 Stealth
Even though today the only "Stealth Fighter" we have available is the F-22 Raptor and arguably the F-35 Lightning2, this game was a big part of my childhood. They really pushed the limits on the NES' hardware to provide everyone with a combat simulator.
Although I do wonder, what kind of planes are you fighting against anyway?
Oh yeah, did you know that if you press "Select" you could enter "stealth Mode"? You could only do it one mission though.
Getting Top Gun NES vibes here
very good nice 😀
My strategy just beyond the basic levels was literally fly around in a loop blasting the guns with the unlimited ammunition. Doing this, basically makes you near invincible and the other planes somehow find their way into your bullet stream. Of course, this silly maneuvering kills lots of enemies, but kills the challenge of the game.
Still good for laughs, though.
Bro my twin and I played the fuck out of this game.😊
I had the game, i got to level 3 then we had a power surge & it fried the game.
If it is a stealth aircraft, how all those Boris Bombzhinsky and Stalin Skykovsky can even see you?
Is this basically top gun for the snes
looks like a re-skinned Top Gun

But, instead of Mark Van Hecke doing the sounds and music for Stealth ATF, the late Russell Lieblich did the music and sounds for this game, instead!
