- Many believed that Nayef Aguerd could be the perfect central defender for Julen Lopetegui's tactics, given the Spaniard's preference for possession-based play and agile, ball-playing center-backs. Unfortunately, it seems highly unlikely that Aguerd will remain at West Ham, as top sources reveal his determination to depart.
Despite footage of Aguerd celebrating with George Earthy after West Ham's 3-1 win against Luton, any hopes of him staying were dashed when the club confirmed his intent to leave. Aguerd, who was pursued by David Moyes for over two years, has faced scrutiny regarding his suitability for the EPL. Nevertheless, some fans hoped he would thrive in a possession-based team under Lopetegui.

Such a waste of some skillful players. I actually think Lanzini and Fornals and Benhrama would have thrived under J-Lo ..... never mind Paqueta who is clearly gone. What a tragedy! We may not be Barcelona, under the new guy but at least we will pass the bloody ball!

Well Aguerd had experienced Roman Säis,Nordin Amrabat and Onuahi as teammates. Players that run and play proper football.
With players like Soucek,Zouma and Coufal its hard to play proper football

Aguerd looks really classy at times and his tackling is usually timed to perfection, be a mistake to let him go I suspect...
I hope he stays too. And we have Casey to bring into the squad. We MUST start to develop these youngsters as soon as we can. FFP and P&S means we cannot keep spending big and wasting money year on year
Lopetegui is gonna need minimum 1 RB, 2 CBs, 1 LW, 1 ST, 1 MdF
It would be great if Lopetegui could convince Aguerd to stay and get a tune out of him. I'd even like to see that with Kehrer, who was never given a chance in a stable position, but Monaco are in the Champions League next season.
Ironic that Moyes, who prided himself on solid defence, leaves us with a legacy of one of the leakiest defences that requires substantial rebuilding. Clearly, no time can be wasted in getting our targets in well ahead of pre-season.
Plyrs who dont show full commitment and desire dont deserve to play for west ham.

They have an option to buy and just qualified for the Champions League so we shouldn't hold our breath.
Games are won or lost in midfield. Defenders, yes, but midfield also must be a priority. And we are still not absolutely sure whether it's Sullivan or Tim doing the business do we.
I don’t get the calls from some for keeping Aguerd just because we may have “more possession”. The likes of Awoniyi and Solanke won’t be going easy on him just because we have more of the ball, or may be playing a higher line. Whether you sit deep, or play a high line, if you lack a physical presence you’ll get bullied at this level. Aguerd either needs to toughen up, or go back to the soft French League.
It’s a shame he’s too weak when it comes to physical battles as he has other aspects to his game I like. But at 28, is he likely going to change now?
Get as much of the fee back as we can and spend it on a reliable centre half.

To get to the 'next level' we need to keep players like Aguerd and Kehrer to have healthy competition for places in a new look squad. We just need a coach to develop the qualities that got them recognised for their respective national teams. They certainly didn't look International pedigree under Moyes. I can see Kehrer in a back three and would like to try Aguerd as a CDM (as cover).

Agree Ogbonna should be gone this summer, full respect tho, love Oggy - was watching images from the last game at Upton Park yesterday and there he was, still no hair n not looking much different but ye love Oggy..! Just have to say, ye okay, he has been not so great prior to Luton a few games but was amazing Vs Spurs and was it Brighton or Chelsea or Arsenal in the cup - he's had a few really good performances too ⚒️

And I hope the word striker isn’t even mentioned until 2 CBs, 2 starting CBs mind you, have been signed. And yeah, 2 isn’t enough. It’s a starting point. Zouma needs to be next season’s Oggy if we can’t move him on, and let’s face it we won’t be able to move in.
North African footballers rarely work out in the Premier league. There are notable exceptions but they're mostly mosses. I wonder why that is?

There is a top defender in there somewhere without a doubt another of Moyes many sins buying a player that obviously does not fit Moyes idea of defending . I don't know how much the bad injury affected him but what I saw before the injury was complete class would like him to give it one more season with new coach as for Earthy he ghosted in like a seasoned pro he is a natural
Aguerd will really fit the J LO system as I think dino will …….any defence will suffer with the low block defensive approach we have been playing……. I hope the new manager arrives and gets to keep him as I think he has the skill and pace to thrive but if he is unhappy away from the pitch etc then let him go……but we do need 2 new cen backs with oggy and zouma will not work and not mobile enough

This season when people have ran at, in behind or challenged Aguerd, he has made Pogatetz or Gary Breen look like solid defenders, good on the ball but not upto the physical side, nowhere near. I'm not sure he is even 100% committed, ever since the mega wages offer from the Saudi league came in he has gone to sh!t
I actually rate Aguerd and think he's a good player, but does seem injury prone. He'd be better off going to Saudi and trying to bank as much cash as possible while he can. Shame to see him leave though,
Aguerd only really looks good playing for his country and they play a low block,I dont rate him at all tbh.

He’s good on the ball but he’s not physical enough for the prem and his awareness and marking is terrible glad he’s going rather give Casey a shot or get a younger more hungrier lad from the championship

That’s a good amount of wages to play around with and heralds in the new era with a fully refreshed West Ham.
Coufal and Soucek might be year 2 changes but should be sold while they still have some resale value.

Personally think Areola very unlucky not to get HOTY. In a strange way His stellar performances have maybe become negatively associated with ‘Moyesball’ and as the season has gone on and Moyes become more unpopular so has Areolas key role in the strategy.
