Samsung wins for the selfie cam, and have better colors on the other cameras in low light situations. If i could tweek down V40 recording to be little bit darker i think the video should look better. Samsung have also best stabilization and looks smother when pan back and forth. But i may buy the V40 instead of Samsung because much better price, and for the good sound when i listening to music.

The audio degraded as soon as you switched away from the V40 with the Note 9 coming in second and the Pixel 3 is just terrible. I think the Note 9 is the best overall but the V40 just needs to be adjusted about a half stop for the correct exposure. I would definitely go for the V40 though having used all the V series of devices.

The LG V40 is looking better and better everytime I see it. The Note 9 looks the most accurate, while the Pixel lets in the most light. The LG V40 looks like the most versatile. Letting in a lot of light, while shooting more accurate colors, while shooting at a much wider angle. A surprise win for me for the V40. Google needs to do something about the atrocious audio on the Pixel 3. Sounds like a speakerphone. 😔

    1. Note 9
    2. V40
    3. Pixel 3
Google has a lot of work to do with their new phone. The good news for the Pixel 3 is that the camera is heavily-reliant on its software so I'm guessing they can fix most of what ails it right now with software updates. I'm wondering if the audio problems, however, are hardware based.
The Note 9 is the overall winner - Samsung has done a good job with building on prior iterations of their phones and improving the performance. While I don't think the phone is worth close to $1,000 at least they are getting the camera right.
The LG V40 is a pretty close second to the Note 9 but it's not quite up to par and if they want to charge flagship prices then they are going to have to do better. If the V40 had a retail price of $750 then I'd argue that it's a great phone for the cost. Of course people can wait for the price to drop but I think LG would do well to be more aggressive with their pricing because, fair or not, they are not viewed in general by people to be on par with Apple or Samsung.

The note was superior in many aspects though. Exposure, detail, dynamic range, colors, Yada. That's basically superior. As far as objective accuracies go. If you have preference for the way the LG one looks that's your subjective opinion. But it's different from measurable fact.

The V40 is all around a good phone and VERY strong of a competitor to Samsung.
But, I went with the Note 9.. I just felt more inclined to it.

LG's sensor is sensitive to UV flare hence the purplish hue from the street lamps. All the LG's I've had do this in low light with harsh artificial light in frame- other scenarios it's fine.

  • @musicalala

I think the Note sounded best for voice when close to mics but I've heard a band recorded on V40 here on youtube and I was amazed at how accurate and clear it sounded. I would be really surprised if the Note could achieve similar or better results in that scenario. Close up the Note had a bit more clarity and accuracy without a doubt. I'd like to hear live music recorded on video on Note. If it is as good or better than V40,I may have just made a mistake in buying a V40.Lol! I work as a musician so that's important to me. Sound of headphone jack will also matter too tho. Just saw a Note recording live music on video and it was damn good too. Problem was it was a video about how Note 9's tendency to stop recording randomly on it's own and there are other videos about same issue. So maybe V40 is the one for me after all.

Note 9 by a long distance. Better clarity, sharpness, better colour too. Pixel is known to be weak with video. V40 just looks a bit washed out. Of course, the story maybe different if you go into manual mode and tweak ISO to control exposure better on V40.

I'd say the note 9 was the overall best not far behind the LG v40. Definitely thinking about getting the v40 now. Although i have a note 9 right now. Keeping both but the dac in the v40 is mostly why i want to get it.
