Saying we are going to “Save The Planet” puts ourselves in a position of godlike domination, strength and power, as though we are the heroes, and the planet is the 'helpless maiden' who needs rescuing. The truth is the opposite. We need rescuing. We need rescuing from the 'dualism dream of ourselves' as being separate entities from each other, and the entire Universe.
You have answered and in fact done what has been going through my mind for the longest time. Can a business not be just about money but in fact be something that is yes, profitable but more so, one that is at the core truly about making a difference, making a positive impact to others, being an example, a business that walks the talk and talks about it more to influence others.
Best brand out there. I have some very old gear, dating back to the Chouinard Equipment days that still sees regular use. Keep going!

Patagonia has been an inspiration for me as a designer to keep going even in the face of not being able to align with the idea of commodifying everything to meet the "demands". I believe in the same values as you, which is Purpose over profit and collaboration over competition. We collectively as a species needs to rethink our strategies for how to approach the future without forgetting what it actually means to alive in this world during our miniscule 80 year stint on earth.
Still have my Sierra Designs parka I bought at Great Pacific Iron Works in 1971. Being from Ventura, I used to ride my bike by there often in the 1970s on the way to Surfer's Point.

I'm not sure people really realize how crazy it is that Patagonia was converted to a non-profit. That's the equivalent of donating ~$100,000,000 EVERY YEAR. It's unfortunate they are basically the only company to ever do that.
