"Thank you so much for playing my game" -Charles 1996 And thank you for making the childhoods of so many and marking the voice of the most iconic video game character ever, ❤
This song hits so hard after the recent news. Charles Martinet will no longer provide the voice of Mario. Someone new will be voicing him starting in Super Mario Bros Wonder as confirmed by Nintendo themselves. This truly is the end of an era. Thank you, Charles, for enlightening countless people across the world with that jovial energy you gave Mario and friends.
This is the first game I ever played and fell in love with it but then we lost the n64 then 9 years later it comes out for switch that for me just is crazy because every day I wished for it to come out for the switch and it did
I had the opportunity to meet the voice of Mario, Mr. Charles Martinet at Galaxycon. Before we parted ways I had the pleasure to have a little small talk with him. While we were talking this song happened to be playing at his booth. The last words he said to me was "Thank you so much for playing my game!" In the Mario voice. The nostalgia really hit me in that moment, I couldn't even speak, all I could do was smile and laugh. A truly amazing experience!!
Hearing this song after hearing that Charles Martinet is no longer voicing Mario just makes this song so much more powerful. It doesn’t just feel like the end of a journey, it feels like the end of a legacy.

I remember playing Super Mario 64. Nintendo 64 was one of the earliest game consoles I've played. The joys of growing up in the 90s and 2000s. Few video game icons touched my heart like Mario did. Thanks to Charles Martinet, I've had such fondness for this man. After three decades as Mario and his brother Luigi as well as the greedy Wario and his sidekick Waluigi among others, he's retiring from voicing one of video game history's most beloved characters to be an ambassador. Thank you, Charles. "It's a-me, Mario! Let's a-go!" - 1996. I will never forget the impact and the difference you've made.

@@DustinTimberlake idk about that. While I haven't personally heard the phrase from people talking to me. I have heard/seen it somewhere online. Also when I tell my brother and some of my friends that I only listen to video game soundtracks they give me a weird look as if its weird to like only video game music
This is the ending of one of the best games that was created on this planet. All five games came a long way, and we thank you, Nintendo. *Super Mario 64 - 1996* | _Happy 20th Anniversary!_ *Super Mario Sunshine - 2002* | _Happy 15th Anniversary!_ *Super Mario Galaxy - 2007* | _Happy 10th Anniversary!_ *Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 2010* | _Happy 7th Anniversary!_ *Super Mario Odyssey - 2017*
Tapu Kek None of them were open world, they were all sandbox games. Odyssey was almost close to being an open world game, but it’s not. 3D Land and World were NOT sandbox games, they were Super Mario Bros. games in 3D. I liked them, but they’re on the “Super Mario Bros.” list, not the “3D Mario Sandbox” list. Tapu Kek, they were CLEARLY different from each other. Super Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy had the same gameplay elements and collect stars/shine sprites; 3D Land and World don’t have that element and finish levels by flagpoles.
We're not arguing, we're having a conversation and stating facts. I've been playing the Mario franchise for over 20 years and I know the first 3D Mario game was Super Mario 64. Like I said, Super Mario 3D Land and World are not sandbox Mario games, they have the SMB-style, it's just all in 3D. A 3D Mario game is always on console too, exclude SM64 DS because it's only a remake, but it's suppose to be on the console. People may consider it to be part of the 3D Mario series, but to me, it is not. It never will be. It was originally supposed to be a trilogy of Super Mario 64, (originally SM64 128 but that was scrapped) Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy; because Galaxy was very popular, they made a sequel which was basically the same thing, except it has more galaxies, stars, and a new hub. Super Mario 3D Land and World are the same thing, except World is on console, has more players to play, a bigger world, and enhanced graphics. These two are COMPLETELY different from the first three; instead of stars or shine sprites, they have flagpoles to finish levels. 3D Land and World also have a time limit and the five 3D Mario games don't have a time limit... All of these show that 3D Land and World have Super Mario Bros. elements. You see where I’m getting at? 3D Land & World ≠ 3D Mario Chronology
I know being an adult is scary It sucks to grow up But don’t worry, you’ll always have this Mario soundtracks to remember the happy kid and childhood you have many years ago
I know that feeling. One hell of a first game to beat as a kid. Wasn't mine but I totally know the feeling dude. This music takes me back to much more fun times. T_T
Jeez shut it just let me enjoy my Nintendo music. It's been a pretty dumb trend just going around commenting rip iwata. Don't get me wrong I miss the guy too but nobody wants this comment to taint every nintendo related video.
No because he didn't work on this game and he didn't work on any Mario games until Sunshine. If anything they played a song from a game he's actually worked on, like Sad Story from SMG or the ending theme from the posthumously-released Kirby Planet Robobot.
I’m going back to the house to go to the gym with the girls for the night so I’ll let you know if you need anything or do I need to get something for dinner or dinner with 😢you know 🎉😊🎉😅🎉😅😢🎉😅😢😅😂😢😅
I know that this is just a game, but oddly enough this end theme sounds somewhat emotional, even without the pictures in the game you could really see all you went through just by listening to this end theme. The game takes you on an adventure unlike any other, and the end theme is just to wrap you up and take you back to what you did on the adventure. I remember I got really upset when this was over because I didn’t want it to end. Don’t be upset that it’s over, be happy that it exists, and be even more happy that it expanded
Facts, i feel exactly the same, I'm only 12 years old and still nearly cries when i hear this song, it's something with it that makes you feel emotinal
All I want to say is: Thank you Charles Martinet for voicing one of my favorite video game characters for 3 decades and for all the adventures and memories. I would like to wish you good luck on your new role at Nintendo as the Mario Ambassador. "Thank you so much-a for-to playing my game!"
Thank you Charles. Some of my earliest memories were of playing Mario when I was young on the wii. While I am saddened by the retirement I am thankful for the many years of joy and comfort Charles gave me and countless others. Charles not only gave Mario his voice, but he gave him his soul. Thank you ❤
Same. I was born like 10 years after this game's release, and Super Mario Galaxy has always been my nostalgia. But for some reason I feel like this song is the one I've been connecting to all this time.
Thank you Charles for giving your time and talent over the years, you will always be mario in the hearts of many. Here's hoping the new voice of mario will be just as good
This song explains life's journey into one little song... It starts happy and cheerful then it gets ominous and dark. Then it comes back to happy. Then dark again. Then it comes back around again! And then you're in a hospital. That's where you remember everything you've done in life. Then you say your final goodbyes, then it's over.
@Ken narville just ignore the last part and its just pretty much life in a nutshell, you are a cheerful kid, high school-college is a bit dark beucase its a lot of work, rebellious teenage years, uncertainty about relationships, then it gets better once you graduate, settle down, find a wife and stable job, and it goes back to good tempo for the rest of the journey.
As I listened to this amazing song, I imagined Mr. Iwata walking out of Peach's Castle. Every Nintendo character is standing outside with tears in their eyes. As he walks out, everyone steps forward and say their goodbyes to Mr. Iwata. After a few minutes, Mario tugs at this suit, Mr. Iwata turns to face Mario. Mario then slowly removes his wing cap and hands it to Mr. Iwata. He puts on the wing cap and makes his way to the highest level of Rainbow Road just ahead of the bridge. He is then know as one of the grand stars, known to all as a great piece of the Nintendo skies. He'll always be their, but still far away.
Charles Martinet... Thank you so much for being the voice of millions of childhoods, and may you enjoy your adventures as the Super Mario Embassador! So long, old friend. We'll miss you. ❤
This game is so magical. I started playing it when I was around 3 with my dad and brother, and after many years, I finally got to the ending when I was around 9. It made me cry, and let me tell you that very, very few things in media have made me want to cry. It’s so legendary, emotional, lasting, good-willed. That’s the feeling it evokes in me. I’m 21 years old now and I still look back and see the huge impact it had on my life. It really touches a nerve in me. I feel like this song is deeply rooted in my heart, in some way. When I listen to it, it always makes it fuzzy inside. I can’t help but to feel love and nostalgia, and to think it’s all connected to my child-self. It’s so emotional. Super Mario 64 will always be my favorite game of all time. It’s a really fun, creative game. Simple and amazing nowadays, while revolutionary in its day.
and have chris pratt singing: Do the Mario! Swing your arms from side to side Come on, it's time to go. Do the Mario! Take one step, and then again Let's do the Mario, all together now! You got it! It's the Mario! Do the Mario! Swing your arms from side to side Come on, it's time to go. Do the Mario! Take one step, and then again Let's do the Mario, all together now! Come on now. Just like that!
This hits even harder now that Charles Martinet is stepping down as the voice of Mario and has become the Mario ambassador. Thank you Charles Martinet! You’ll always be our Mario!
Yeah. I tear up a little listening too it because this game pretty much made my 5-8 year old life pretty easy despite the things going on at the time, though I never thought about it at the time. And while it's been 3 years since I last seriously sat down down and played this game, I still really do remember it fondly.
He didn't make this game. He managed/oversaw projects and did presentations/promoted the company. The first person you should be crediting is Koji Kondo, the guy who composed all this great music.
The Credits, "Thank You" 4th wall breaking message, and List of Enemies Shown In-Game soundtracks in Super Mario World (1989-91) for the SNES console were also beautiful songs
It was the voice that made us smile when nothing else could. It was the happy voice of a happy guy who let us all have fun when we needed it the most. Today, we accept the decision of Charles Martinet, as he has stepped down from his role as Mario and co. Thank you for your years of elevating this character we love so much. Whatever path you may take next, Mr Martinet, I hope your heart is full of glee and happiness, the same way your voice acting talents filled us with those same emotions across these 30+ years!❤
The nostalgia is real, i remember collecting all 120 stars and just wishing there were more. Mario 64 was my introduction to video games and will always have a special place in my heart.
I may have never played Super Mario 64, but listening to this song with the recent news of Charles Martinet's retirement from voicing the silly Italian plumber is getting me teary-eyed. We're gonna miss you, Charles.
Well, it has been a journey. Charles Martinet is officially retiring as the voice of Mario... bittersweet hearing this music as I find out about these news, but hey, at least his voice will forever be in these legendary games and shall live on forever and ever! Thanks for everything, Nintendo, but specially Charles Martinet for being that iconic voice for such an iconic character. We will always love your work and hope for your life to be long and happy for being this awesome human being that brought life to such iconic characters.
That's so nice to hear! There's just really something special about this game that makes it more fun than newer games with better graphics and everything.
I got goose bumps while listening to this :( man i still remember when i played that game for the first time it was 10 years ago... never finished that game but i loved it good old times :(
my heart it aches while listening to, this brings so so much memories when I first beat it was magical and it made me happy brought tears of joy..I still play this game to this very day..
When I heard this on my N64... When I finished Mario.. I was super sad ;_; Looking back at all those memories with that game, raging, having fun. Then I missed it... I wish we all still lived in the 90s.
+AciDouS I always feel the same. I'll never forget completing Super Mario 64 the first time in 1997. Such as beautiful ending to a spectacular game. I remember being so good at beating Bowser I could swing around that analogue stick super fast, hit the B button and hit the arena bombs every time! Now I find it nearly impossible!

So this isn't a goodbye, but a good luck to the absolute legend that is Charles Martinet. I thank him with all my heart, and wish him nothing but happiness and success with whatever comes next as the Ambassador of Mario!!

Exactly, they're considered to be more of a Super Mario Bros. game... the only difference is that it's just in 3D instead of 2D.
Mario jesus
Tapu Kek
None of them were open world, they were all sandbox games.

He didn't work on the Mario games until Sunshine
Did anyone played this song at his funeral? It’s so magical and makes most people like me cry
No because he didn't work on this game and he didn't work on any Mario games until Sunshine. If anything they played a song from a game he's actually worked on, like Sad Story from SMG or the ending theme from the posthumously-released Kirby Planet Robobot.

"Bye-bye"
This song explains life's journey into one little song... It starts happy and cheerful then it gets ominous and dark. Then it comes back to happy. Then dark again. Then it comes back around again! And then you're in a hospital. That's where you remember everything you've done in life. Then you say your final goodbyes, then it's over.

Thanks for a great comment and ruining some persons childhood
@Ken narville it isnt too sensitive, just a bit emotional
