- From the Academy-Award winning film, Braveheart. After a hundred years of theft, rape and murder, the Scots under William Wallace decide to declare their independence from English occupation. Wallace was the son of a land-owning commoner. After his father and brother were killed by the English, William is taken in by his uncle, Argyle. Fast forward some number of years and William returns and wants to settle down with his childhood flame, Murron.
When King Edward "Longshanks" declares "prima nocta," William and Murron get married in secret to avoid her being taken by an English lord as part of his "sexual rights." One of the sleazy English soldiers tried to rape Murron, but she injured him, causing the local English magistrate to execute her. Seeking revenge, William kills the magistrate and the garrison and then proceeds to wage a guerrilla campaign that results in the death of the local English lord.
Knowing that the English will eventually send their entire northern army against them which will include heavy horse(armored cavalry), William and his men formulate a battle plan. When they arrive at Stirling, they find that the Scottish army is leaving the field of battle due to the overwhelming size and strength of the English army.
After a rousing speech, William convinces the Scots to stay and fight. - Zábava
The end scene always made this look like a really pyrrhic victory given just how few guys are actually standing versus the massive pile of dead behind them.
Most "epic" battles in these times had few men left standing...
@@tygrahof9268Not true. Medieval battles were rarely a fight to the death.
A warriors deadliest weapon is his mind.
@alexfilma16 very true. In the real Battle of Stirling Bridge, out of a force of 9,000 men, the English only lost 5,000, which is a lot but just over half. Not like the total destruction which is portrayed here.
@@alexfilma16 Most of these battles were more cursing at each other for a few hours then down the pub ( So the wife wasn't suspicious if you arrived home too early )
My favorite and best movie of all time!
Battles were absolute chaos back then, maybe aside from the first wave like in this scene. But just running into the middle and chopping each other down is insane lol
Ok, way to much bull s**t
why did you lol?
Great film. Actual history be damned!
Just an awsome movie all the way around.
Although nothing like the real battle that actually featured a bridge & a downhill charge by roughly 6000 Scottish Lowland spearmen (not wearing kilts & without any blue streaks painted into their faces!) that plowed into a smaller number of English knights this cinematic recreation is still spectacular & exhilarating, & one of the best & most realistic battle scenes ever filmed. Even after nearly 30 years it still holds up fantastically while never ceasing to amaze me. Kudos to Mel Gibson for an outstanding job at directing this movie while serving as the main star, not an easy task.
Other than the fact it isn't history it's OK.
SO YOU WERE THERE THEN..... ?
@@willshunting I was. 15 incarnations back. As a jolly green leprechaun watching from the heights. It was a splendid slaughter! I saw it all, all while savoring several bottles of Schlitz & munching on a huge bag of Doritos 😜👍
@@jaymcgann6637It's exhilarating & entertaining!
@@TheRampagingGallowglass75lol
Watching this in a Glaswegian cinema in the 90s musta been a blast 🗡
It broke my heart when I found out Braveheart was more fantasy than history. Still an incredible movie though.
@@streetsludger These Scots wore kilts and have blue faces. This is clearly fantasy.
Its not fantasy, just that the dates are not really in place, clothing, and weaponry , place of battles , but the movie shows its message the best , patriots and FREEDOM!
@@user-zg3bh6oy3j I have done a small research myself, cause i like history and when i found real informations, i could not imagine that Braveheart would be the popular film as we know.
the battle of stirlng was real how i got my name mchardy
@@user-zg3bh6oy3j There were no bagpipes and kilts in 14th age , armor was diffrent , and real wallace fought for Baleol to become the king of scotland. No freedom theme were there.
Most epic Battle scene I've ever watched
EU soccer match
They remastered but didn´t erase the car at 1:25 lol
Also, they have the spears up before Wallace gave the order.
Oopsie...
It was an AAAnglush car, a symbol of the AAAnglush king.
You have to go to Stirling to see why this was an incredible victory. There are other battle sites but this one is epic. Scotland the Brave!
What? Do you mean the Battle of Stirling Bridge…
While a cool movie scene it irritates me that it was NOTHING like the actual of Stirling Bridge.
This kind of movies are now classics
This reminds me of several night's out in Glasgow. Fun times
Great sound effects
Remember: if you’re going into a fight, scream “BASTARD!” at the top of your lungs for a temporary plus 15 morale damage and berserker rage
Beautifull
I love them outlawed tunes
Flower of Schotland ❤
Great
Questo film è bellissimo ❤
I can't believe this only got 200 million at the box office..
Love the brief shot off the pikes up before they pick them up.
They fought for their freedom and dignity. Thank you William Wallace. greetings from Turkey🇹🇷
🇺🇸🎉👍🏻
lmao what freedom?
If that’s 4k remastered you can keep it …..awesome film though one of the best !
It's more crispy, not only because of the new effort of this guy
Pull tight lads here we go !!!
If you’re going to remaster it, add a bridge. It was the battle of Stirling BRIDGE and it was pivotal in the victory
My home town. Where I was born and where I live. All that is missing here is the bridge, the castle on a cliff, and the mountains. Apart from that, yeh it’s ..er.. Stirling.😅
S C O T L A N D , the B R A V E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Soy argentino y lo que hoy estamos viviendo como nacion es lo mismo que trasmite la película viva la libertad carajo
Para re vivido jajajaja
Could have done with a bridge😂. Awesome movie though!
when you fight for your freedom you can beat anybody !
Not historically accurate I know but still my favorite movie.
Poor horseies..
they are dumy not real
Stunning portrayal of the battle of Sterling. But where is the bridge.
Maybe it fell down before they crossed it
4:12 The best part, I promise and still remember first seeing it in the movie theater.
Damn, you got to see it first time at movies.
I watched first time on a 14 inch TV in 1999 after recording it. I was 12.
So sad when Wallace died.
It was my first "action movie" where the hero died. Shocked for days.
Lol
I saw it in movies too. I was 9 and my mom took me. She probably didn't realize how violent it was going to be but I was a mature kid.
are you brave not sorry?
The poor horses - impaled on those stakes. It’s horrible.
It's fortunate that all of Wallace's closest friends survived all the battles.
Now this battle is the ONE & ONLY Brave Heart, William Wallace was actually in.
4:30 appreciating his effort to plant a tree in the middle of a battlefield
04:30 just some random guy pretending to fight stabbing the ground and making dying noises 😂
Lang live bonny Scotia ❤❤❤ ✝️ xxxx
Daenerys Targaryen: "Write that down..."
Out all historical sword battle movie non of them look the same realistic and amazing looking sword fighting scenes 3ven come close and will rouch braveheart and out all rhe movie actors directors mel gibson makes the best movie on screen ever
dont mess with the scotts
At least the enemy ran out of arrows.
Oh for America to be filled with this ferocity for FREEDOM! God help US and God bless America.
You were. Most of your freedom fighters in 1776 were Scots who fled to the new world after the uprisings over here in the early 1700s.
Let's go baby
What have you done with color grading?!
"Hollywood" history...do many factual inaccuracies people have written papers on it 🤣
First
For Freedom!!
as independent thought is forbidden for subjects, free men have the advantage in battle.
2:17 Wallace suddenly doesn't have a weapon 🤣
He doesn’t need one
They did many historical inaccuracies of the lack of a bridge, the kilts, and most importantly to me, it was a very short battle of hundreds, and it did not affect the overall war.
The movie makes it sound like they won the battle, so they won the war when in fact, they won the battle, and then lost the next few battles to the point of losing the war.
I feel really bad for the horses! They didn't sign up for this $#*t!
“Oh hurry up and invent the tank you bastards!!!!”
worry not, it'll be diner tonight !
Totalmente de acuerdo, hermano.
What you saw were mechanical horses. No real animals were harmed during this movie
@@SharonMillimanNDE They were real horses .A friend of mine owned them .Obviously no horses were killed . The film was filmed not fair from were I live . He has horses in . The vikings to . Filmed here as well .
Not that modern warfare is any better, but can you imagine all these men hacking at each other with sharpened iron and pointed spears?
The blood and the guts is bad enough, but imagine all the neurological damage of those fatally wounded pissing and shitting themselves when it happens. Battlefields must’ve been disgusting.
So much more honorable than the world war battlefields though. At least people in this era could fight for it and rely on some skill and athleticism. 20th century battlefields were absolute hellscapes. I don’t know how people came back from the world wars with sanity intact, especially WWI. At least fighting nazis in WWII was easy to justify.
The one thing about this, that the movie rightly or wrongly doesn't depict is that, when all that carnage is happening, a lot of men just run. I mean can you say given the chance you wouldn't rather be anywhere else? A lot of men just run, and when you're down to only a handful of allies nearby a lot will surrender, I mean unless they were scared of being tortured after the battle which the scotts might have done but I'm no expert on it.
"I'm going to pick a fight..."
Wallace was a North Walian mercenary
Regards Saxon. I'm one. Left side gone through working.
YYAAAAOOOOOOO
This battle veritably involved a bridge.
El final de la escena, es escalofriante, grito de VICTORIA
3:43 i love it!
"We'll make spears."
1:23+ Never noticed before but they already have the spears up before Wallace gave the order.
Yup, one of those little things that got missed in editing -- or they wanted to extend the drama of the scene and didn't have any other footage from that distance and hoped people would just roll with it (which people do until you stop and examine the scene more). It's fascinating.
…or that he charges towards the opposing army with no weapon at all.
1:04 also here,director mistake,can happen.
Plenty of continuity issues, like Wallace pulling his sword at the start of the charge, then running without it, then having it again. It's a movie.
My favorite parts of this whole scene is how Steven, the Irishman, goes straight for the balls, almost every time.
4K is FOR MORE BLOOD!!!! YEEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Lots if slicing and dicing in this scene!😂
Cool Fantasy battle. Would have been cool if it was real. Since the real battle was called "the battle of Sterling Bridge" because you know, it had a bridge that choked off the English's superior numbers to even out the battlefield. This movie in general is about as accurate to history as Conan the Barbarian was and really fits better as a swords and sorcery fantasy.
I won't what ptsd was like for the men of then I mean cutting and stabbing men to death and have them come at you like that is beyond scary
Everybody... 4 min 41 seconds.
Guy dancing whilst Swinging a sword.
Youre welcome
im 1200 years old and am a time traveler , dont remember this shit, was probably in a bar inventing armpit fart jokes for credits. .....i mean silver... of course
Ye must have had a few drams I had a stall not far from there
But Mel wos amazing in the sword battle fighting scenes tho thames up to Mel gibson
Молодец Мел Гибсон. Как будто снимали недавно не скажешь что прошло 25 лет
4:41 Such a shiny horse.
Battle of Sterling bridge without the bridge.🤦
It's known as one of the best battles in cinematic history though.
Stirling bridge
its more like a buffed up 1080 version. the movie is not filmed in 4k som it will never be a full 4k version.
I run😊free for scotland
You said 4k? Did you mean -4k?
Such a misrepresentation of real history. The Scotts where every bit as professional an army as the English. They had knight in full suits of armour, fully equipped infantry and archers, just like their foes. They did not present themselves like Scottish peasants. No battle was ever fought without well established lines. No mad dashing at each other into a free for all open undisciplined battle. Still makes for a great movie.
How can they send cavalry without infantry support
this was what Scotsmen ( people ) used to be like
Coś pięknego być na czymś takim człowiek może wyżyć swe frustrację i wszystko zgodnie z prawem legalnie
Шотландия и Ирландия вперёд...
It was the Battle of Stirling Bridge.
In the film there isn’t even a bridge. A budget film basically re-writes history…as it did for the whole story frqnkly.
Boy, that guy commanding the English... didn't learn how to use counter units in AoE2!
poor horses...
Alba gu brath!
War is horror
The FINEST MOVIE EVER!!!
Hello From Greece, Thessaloniki.
Medic!!!! I need a mediccccccc.....
But where is the bridge
There’s so much wrong with this film, but the portrayal of Stirling Bridge and Bannockburn is so wrong as to be almost criminal. The Scots were not a mob of woad covered brawlers, they had some of the best infantry in Europe and at both Stirling Bridge and Bannockburn, the excellence of the infantry and the exceptional strategic performance of Wallace and then Robert Bruce gave Scotland superb victories. Still though, when did Hollywood ever care about the truth ?
обожаю русичей
Because you know, armour doesn’t do anything
Not to worry Englishmen......we made them pay dearly over the next several hundred years!
Show me a bridge, and I will believe this is Stirling.
😂😂😂😂😂😂this is scotish referendum😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
alright
is this black and white tv !
