And that’s where this series comes in handy, exploring those cards that aren’t too good or too bad to see the light. So welcome to the Unknown side of Yugioh. In this episode, we are going over the Flower Cardian archetype. So let's dive in.

my favourite reference in Flower Cardians is how their suits are based on the months of a full year, which refers to the amount of time it takes to perform the Flower Cardian combo
Another fun reference, less with the cards and more with the anime, is that Hanafuta at a time was illegal in Japan due to strict gambling laws. And in the anime Chojiro is first found in prison and uses the deck for power rather than fun. While the whole "power instead of fun" is a common villain thing in Yugioh, it's especially neat to see that used for gambling vs just playing a card game, and link a once-illegal card game to a man imprisoned.

I unironically love the Flower Cardian archetype. So much so, that I bought actual Hanafuda cards after I bought the deck. It is so much fun to play. But GOD FORBID SOMEONE HIT YOU WITH THE DROLL & LOCK BIRD and just ruin your sunday locals
It's so sad... Especially when you can't even run hand traps of your own because it ruins consistency. They need an in-archetype handtrap of their own

I remember the deck fondly, because when I taught my nephew Yugioh it was his first complete Archetype deck he used.

Special summon Boar Soldier and activate Reverse Trap so that the ATK decrease becomes an ATK increase of 1,000 per opponent's monster until the end of the turn. Turn it into an INSANE beatstick.
It looks like the attack boost would last only one turn though if I am understanding the wording correctly, but it is an interesting strategy. Although reading Reverse Trap again, it would be hilarious to pair it with Light and Darkness Dragon, especially if you and/or your opponent try to combo effects like crazy.
@alexanderrobins7497 Yeah. Reverse Trap only lasts until the end of the turn but the fact is you can still do some pretty "left-field" combos with older cards like these. Speaking of Light and Darkness, that's getting an updated retrain soon too but the effect feels like it sucks more than the original.
I never really thought about it but Flower Cardian Zebra Grass with Moon seems to be referencing not just The Wicked Avatar itself, but what this sphere form represents. The Winged Dragon of Ra is the embodiment of the Sun. So it's Evil God counterpart seems to be the embodiment of the Moon.

ive been playing flower cardian on master duel since release and i never even noticed there were other cards in the artwork, was really cool to find this out thanks for the video
8:27 it was supposed to be a target for Marauding Captain, LVL 3 Earth Warrior Type monster, that protects other warriors from attacks, and when normal summoned, special summon a LVL 4 monster from your hand.
Except Boar Soldier came out in Spell Ruler, well before Marauding Captain. And as a beast-warrior, doesn't benefit from Marauding Captain's protection. And I can think of better level 4 or lower monsters to summon than one that's usually going to be a mere 1000 attack. (Boar Soldier's attack is reduced by 1000 if the opponent controls at least one monster)
I played against a buddy using flower cardians. By the 4th monster effect there was souch text it was kind of a drag to read the new cardian hes gonna popoff with
You kind of do just have to remember what each one needs to summon itself. I play this in masterduel and i just look at the picture and what card is glowing.
part of the strategy of flower cardians is hoping my opponent either doesn't know the deck or gives up on reading them as I do stuff
@@AwesumVloggintruish, tho they arent super complex, you can memorize them in about 1 game if u play them, against them its about 3 if you pay attention
I liked flower cardians in the anime so much that I tried learning to play hanafuda for a time after

Flower cardians are cool
I main them both in TCG and Master Duel, and it is extremely underestimated. Virtually immune to handtraps and the strongest GY lock in the gate as a lingering effect (can't be negated), also protected field from destruction and targetting while all have really high ATK (also 2 s/t negates)
Inoshikacho gy lock and ame protection is kinda bonkers tbh, sadly this deck need a better card to protect Inoshikacho from destruction
Those have insane long turns of the same combo like 10x that end on 2 easily outed monsters

I’m personally surprised they never released the Sake Cup cards. It’d be a perfect opportunity to show a Lonefire Blossom in the middle of exploding in a chrysanthemum-style firework

8:35 - I mean, Boar Soider is a Beast-Warrior type, which could be useful in a Tri-Brigade deck since that’s one more material in the GY to Link Summon.
It's such a fun deck to play that I just wish that it did... something.

That's so cool. I never noticed the card references on the Flower Cardian cards. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
I attempted a pure Flower Cardian deck. It really tests if you truly believe in the heart of the cards; otherwise, you will usually lose. Ironically Ash Blossom blocks a lot of plays, including the cherry blossom cardians.
Only regular cherry, since it tributes for cost and is a soft once per turn, but cherry with curtain is not even a once per turn, so you just activate it again I believe
In regards to ashing cardians in general, ash seems to just negate a single topdeck/card draw which is not all that important except maple with deer or clover with boar where not getting the pop may matter or if you don't have enough gas to keep going
It's actually way better to imperm/veiler a tuner imo, because the summoning mechanics of cardian synchros always involve the effect of a tuner to make all the cardians be level 2 for the summon (with the rare exception of topdecking exactly 1 tuner and 2 non-tuners via super koi koi) and you get the card draw negate as an added bonus

We need a spell or even a series of spells with another effect that activates when drawn by a Flower Cardian effect - to search or extend combos

Boar Soldier with 'Inverse Universe' all increases/decrease of a set amount(no half stuff) in reverse so that negative 1000 becomes plus 1000 to equal 3000atk

You just made a video about my favorite archetype of all time... AND you made a Xenoblade Chronicles reference, aka one of my favorite games of all time. My life is now complete
flower cardians are the only archetype i think that has made me consider getting into yugioh. it's such a cool concept and it sounds like they executed it perfectly.
They need just 1 link 1 monster & maybe 2 more spells/traps, and the deck would pop off insanely.

The first time I ever faced a Flower Cardian deck in MD, I had to wait for several minutes for my opponent to do something, then I used Ultimate Conductor Tyranno to just wipe their board immediately.
I do love the artwork of these cards though.

One archetype I think you can cover would be Rikka. Most people forget how many cards are in the archetype because they usually only see a handful played in the Sun Avalon hybrid decks.

I loved using this archetype in master duel,just going first and making my opponent watch me play solitaire for 5 minutes while i summon exodia
I think you can use Boar Soldier in Mekklords as his self destruction effect can trigger the Mekklords to summon themselves. Supply Unit also yields you a draw off of this.
Could you please do a similar video for the Chronomaly and Ancient Treasure archetypes? Not only do I find the references to real life unique, but I also like how the latter got revamped into the former.
Next idea for The Unknown Side: Cyberse monsters and their references to modern technology. There's a ton of those, my bet is the video will be at least 40 minutes long
for the next videos of " The Unknown Side of YU-GI-OH " some ideas would be :
"The Multiverse of Timelines" in which you explain the story of Dai Grepher , D.D. Warrior Lady and Warrior of Zera . As for Dai we got a card in Legacy of Destruction named " Double Dai " .
" Cards that mention in their text cards that don't exist yet " example include Virtual world 4th gate , Chamber Dragonmaid dragon form , Nekroz Trap card , Crystron spell card , etc

Even after this explanation I still have no idea how to play flower cardians other than try to make a huge @$$ monster with 5000 atk and is an omni-negate
Its a deck where you make synchro monsters and burn opponent with synchro zone spell then end on a 5k beatstick
If they didn't have a specific restriction this would be a crazy exodia deck

Loved this archetype, even though it doesn't do much outside of dueling with friends.
Idea for a “Flower Cardian” field spell that can help the archetype’s strengths:
*_Flower Garden_* (🪄)
*_Field Spell_*
_Cannot be Destroyed or Targeted by your opponent’s card effects while you control a face-up “Flower Cardian” monster with 2000 or more Original ATK or DEF. There is no limit to your hand size. You can normal summon/set “Flower Cardian” monsters without limits. During turns you control this face-up card, you cannot Special Summon monsters Face-Up, except “Flower Cardian” monsters. Once per turn, during either players turn, if you summon a “Flower Cardian” monster or add a card to your hand by the effect of a “Flower Cardian” monster you control: You can excavate the top card of your deck, and if it mentions “Flower Cardian” in it’s name or text, add it to your hand, otherwise Banish it._
this is one of my top 3 favorite archetypes, and probably as combo heavy as I get.
Shame the deck blows back on me frequently, before i even have to deal with my opponent. the amount of times ive tried to work out a cardian hand and can't because I open on all bricks, or each attempt to draw results in hitting multiple non- cardian monsters in a row.

Poison Draw Frog is there because of lightshowers effect to inflict damage on draw... essentially poison while drawing.
YuGiOh is magnificent in its self referential nature. I can't think of a single game that is so openly self referential outside of Un-sets in MTG, and even then, they still don't break the forth wall as much as YuGiOh. Hearthstone in universe is a game played, but even it doesn't reference this fact *on the cards.*
Only in YuGiOh are cards depicted in other cards. Look at Card Destruction for example, its flavour stems from the fact that it depicts a card game. You aren't dropping a lightning bolt on the field or sucking it into a black hole, you are playing a card which in terms of narrative is you throwing your hand away and drawing new cards.
I'm certain that this is because of YuGiOh's nature stemming from it being a game created for the protagonists to play, it is a part of the narrative, not *the* narrative. But still, no other card game so openly displays the fact it is a card game in its flavour.
10.49 expect with superheavy samurai monsters and gaia plate the earth giant cause it halves avatars attack until the end phase.
this is a good change of pace from failure and depression.

I don't understand why more people don't use infinite summon and restock decks like this one to abuse the time rules and get an easy game one match win with a well placed sparks like effect or life gain effect right before time is called.
