I differ with Joseph sir on the reasons for vegetarianism. Food habits indeed influence people's thinking and emotional capabilities as they affect the hormonal system. That is science. But to say all criminals are non-vegetarians or non-vegetarians get angered easily, military people take chillies and hence short-tempered etc is pseudo-science and false.
Real military trained people are not short tempered. They have the greatest control of their mind. Most feared military in the world, the US military, does not have its soldiers eating chillies. Adolf Hitler from 1937 to 1945 was a pure vegetarian. In this period he gassed, torturred and killed jews, gays, gypsies and all his opponents.
Then why is food so important..? Sattva is Knowledge. Rajas is energy/passion. Tamas is ignorance/lethargy. Sattvic foods boost brain. Rajasic foods boost body. Tamasic foods hinder brain and/or body. One who is interested in knowledge should eat more sattvic food. One who is interested in energy/body can eat more rajasic food. One who wants to lose weight or sleep more should eat tamasic food.
Yes, spiritual people, interested in seeking knowledge have sattvic food.
But there are sattvic food eating brainy criminals in every domain. It depends on how we apply our knowledge. Military people building body and energy need not be short-tempered. It depends on how we control our body and mind. Who can beat rice-eating durvasa in being short tempered.. Who can beat the real tapas of butcher dharmavyadha..?
Let's separate social tendencies and food. Our dharma is science, not pseudo-science.
Note - I am a fan of Dr. Joseph sir's speeches.
Though vegetarian o non vegetarian, the training of mind and body and also the surrounding people, ancestry for some extent, etc. etc. Our mind is based on saatvic, rajas or thamas.
As you eat , so shall your thoughts be .
Joseph Guruji's explanation regarding Chillies and Military need not be taken to mean literally. This reference is only to highlight the difference or contrast in behaviour due to Satvic and Rajasic foods.
Joseph ji never said that Military People do Not have Mind Control. He took up an example of Slapping - slap a Man eating Satvic Food only, his Reaction need not be slap back instantly, BUT slap an Army Man and what you get back instantly is a much more powerful slap. The difference in Instant Reaction between the Satvic Food Man and the Rajasic Food Man is due to Food. This should not be misunderstood to mean Army Men don't have Mind Control.
Now the Chillies:
Chilli is a Rajasic Food and wisely used in Indian Cuisine. Joseph ji picked Chilli as an example of Rajasic Food - here the main subject is Not Chilli as such But it is Rajasic Food which is the point of comparison. US Army eat lots of Rajasic Food in Meat, Alcohol etc; absence of Chilli in their Food do not make them Satvik in nature.
Therefore we should listen to Joseph ji to grasp the real inner Meanings of his examples and not just the literal words.

Vanakkam. We Hindus are in majority in India but we are still to find a noble heart like mother Therasa. It is because of karma
theory we don't help the sufferers.
How do you say that we don't have persons like mother Theresa? How about endless streams of saints like Ramanar.Seshadri swamigal etc of the present,and also past mahaans.For one Mother Theresa from the west we have 100 of our saints.
