What are YOUR favorite things to do with a Floyd Rose?
Gear Gods changing strings
Block it! Floating trems suck! I was getting so frusterated with a floating trem on my jackson I was going to sell it. Decided to try blocking it so that it can only dive and it's now my favorite guitar. Change tuning without adjusting springs, bend strings without other going flat, riff hard on the bridge without fluctuating the pitch, still divebomb the hell out of it and stay in perfect tune. It's a win win for me.
Man.....Floyds rule once you get along. Without a doubt changing strings sucks though, but they are killer if everything when everything is right.
Put a piece of wood in the back so it doesn't fucking move, and then never use it.
Ya gotta make a wood block for a Floyd...so its there when ya need it/want it. I love to flick it like cricket. And Kahlers are terrible. Without a doubt the ugliest, weirdest and most terrible bridge ever made. Jeff Hanneman was the only person I've ever seen use a Kahler, and its what caused his death, so thats about all ya need to know. What ya wanna do is look for the German guys, Schaller. SCH...not K.
perfectly balanced, as all things should be
Nerd lol jk
Everytime I see someone with this pfp I assume it's the same person
Haha, more like Josh BrolinC riffs
This is the most beautiful PRS I have ever seen 😍
I completely agree !!!
Still think the PRS Singlecuts are more beautiful, but this here is PRS Perfection. What I would buy if I had $2000. Unless I saw a Suhr Classic T. Zinger!
P. Doherty why
I thought it was a Schecter lmao
Also some people prefer the sound of putting a pickup where the 24th fret would be on a 22 fret guitar. The difference isn't very big and some people would rather just have those extra frets, it's really just personal preference
It has a maple fretboard
The thing I love about prs is that their signature models can be yours. They don’t have crazy finishes that are immediately recognized as someone else’s guitar.
The pinstripes are great tyvm
How bout no
When changing strings i just change one string at a time unless i pull them all off for a nice cleaning or some maintenance. Fun video, thanks.
Yeah that's a good one too!
Also use the screws holding the claw that is attached to your tremolo springs is the way to adjust your spring tension. I got the tuning close then adjusting the springs to and even closer tuning then locked her down at the nut. Used fine tuners from there and was good to go! Just make small adjustments with those screws.
Finally, someone who goes straight into the vid. Love this guy
I LOVE my Floyd rose guitar. Although I have been playing for over 12 years, if you are an intermediate or been playing for some time and are intimidated DONT BE!!! you will learn, adjust and get the hang of the tuning and eventually rockkkk out! its an amazing guitar for soloing and MATH ROCK! hells yeah!

Cashew Walnut Stevie T strikes once more
Sometimes you just got to flick it to get the cricket. Flickittogetthecricket. Flickittogettogetthecricket. Flickittagitigitigitigitagitigigeenoo. 🙃😋
I’m just terrified of a 7 string Floyd Rose
I have a cousin who has one... it’s scary lookin lmao
8 String Floyd's/Kahler's are looking Monstrously!
why i have a LTD 7 string floyd rose
Thinking I'm going to get one tomorrow, wish me luck 🤞😩🤣
Cole rolland has one
A reverse Dive-bomb should be dubbed a "Sky-bomb"; and given Dime-bag loved Dive-bombs, we should dub them "Dime-bombs" in honor of a legend.
Get your pull \m/
I call them dimebonics
Hell Yeah!
Actually lots of people already call them dimebombs
Drug Joza faith in humanity, restored.
I love that thing Herman li does where he holds the guitar by the whammy bar and shakes it then knees it. It scares the hell out of me every time I'm afraid the Floyd's gonna break cause I forget its meant for that.
I've been using Floyd Rose since 1 decade... And your video just saved hours of future tuning with the 1/6 balance string trick!!!!
Don't know if Floyds just scare me... But they just seem complex compared to trem and fixed bridge(mantainance)... I switch tuning a lot...
You are right, I myself don't change tuning that much and if i do ill use another guitar instead. But floyd rose is amazing once set up properly :)
Will probably checkout evertune first.
Agree 100% once i got one i never went back
Haha, my second guitar has the Ibanez edge and I mean I've had some great times with it but nowadays it can't hold normal E standard tuning, the block that holds the low E string keeps letting go 😐
@Ray Amukwaya , here, czcams.com/video/wJIXFFFxf_g/video.html you're welcome...
Never got hooked on PRS but this one looks stunning! Floyd Rose rules dude!!! Keep up the good work :)
Don’t even own a floyd rose but watched the video til the end. One kind of a good guy. Like your videos a lot.
I installed a Floyd Rose on my first guitar about two and a half years ago during Covid lockdown. I didn’t want it to be floating, but rather dive-only, and I found that tuning up was a lot easier with the bridge flush to the body as opposed to tuning something that would take an eternity (seemingly) to get set up
The way I do it I’m done and tuned in about 20 minutes tops. I find it more complicated to string a normal guitar. I use the ball end at the tuners and so far I’ve had less string failures. It’s easy to resting normal guitars if they have locking tuners xD
“Added stank”
At last someone explained how to tune it in proper order. Explained fast ansld simply. I have heard/watched hundreds of long, messed, overcomplicated tips about tuning. This one where just right way :)
About muting the springs: I do it on regular strat bridges as well. Makes all the difference. Easiest way for me is to stuff each spring individually with foam or paper towels.
Yeah if it's got springs you gotta shut em up!
Wouldn’t cotton wool be better since it won’t rip to shreds when you whammy ?
How about duck tape lol package foam makes it look pro
@@treyxaviermusic tried to damp the springs on a Schecter Apocalypse but somehow I feel like hitting' pinch harmonics perfectly is harder or somehow that damping the springs too much kills the sustain of those pinchs. Have you figured out similar "conflicts of interest" as well with a floyd? Since I want both, silent rythm staccato parts and singing pinch harmonics ;)
Daaaaaamn that’s a PRS? Wtf
The back of that guitar looks nicer than the front of my guitars
@ Hey I'm getting one soon!
@@hfl_ you are all over this comment section. My god
@@SenkoLoaf I try to know all I can ❤️
I first heard a flutter from Brad Gillis on the 80's live Ozzy album.
Bingo, he pretty much made it famous. That’s where I heard it first.
My first ever guitar had a floyd rose on it so I had to learn with it, now if I'm playing one that does not have one I find myself reaching for a bar that ain't there and it piss's me off. Makes me not want to play that guitar.
Same here
Can't wait to get my first ever electric with a floyd rose bridge on it!
But, I'm a bit nervous since some people say it's a hassle to tune after string change.
@@yboy898 IT isn't that difficult like everyone says
I'm the exact opposite. lol. I just got a floyd rose guitar but, I've almost exclusively used a telecaster before this, so I keep forgetting about the bar.
@@TylerSampson51 you'll get "too" used to it being there.
3:27 pretty sure John Petrucci does this all the time 😁😁😁😁
Legit, all the time!! The Looking Glass comes to mind
That guy mastered floyd rose techniques and adjustments.
Thanks by sharing with us. It will make a lot of difference for me from now on.
(english is not my 1st language)
Naw u got it
If you guys hate Floyd Rose, why are you here?
BTW, your tone sounds amazing! What amp do you use?
Thanks dude, this is Line 6 Helix Native using the Cali IV lead amp I think
Just so they can whine & complain since no one else will listen to them.
Had FR for years on some of my guitars and never any issues with them.
Because the tricks are awesome but the bridge it self is ass, kahler is much better but they're impossible to find.
Yes Kahler does make a superior product. Stays in tune much better. However, to make this more odd, I have a licensed FR made by Takeuchi Japan which is better than my FR guitars.
I use to hate Floyd Rose I had to figure it out because I'm getting a guitar that has Floyd Rose and so I had to figure how to use it, Now I don't hate anymore when I figured out how it works
Dudes who been playing for 10 years have trouble tuning a floyd Rose
Me: *tuning it correctly for the first time
It honestly really isn't that difficult... If folk would just slow down and think about how the thing works.
Back years before I even played guitar, I was just a drummer at the time, and my guitarist friend(had been playing for 7-8 years) always had me tune his floyd rose all because he didn't take the time to just look at it and realize it's a balanced tension system
Dude it isn't that difficult like everyone says! It's actually pretty simple in my opinion
@@SamuTheFrog Its overly time consuming. Its the biggest drawback of it for me.
@@TylerSampson51 yeah I get that, though I don't find it to be too bad. It's usually done within like 1-2 mins for me.
I was a bit surprised when the video just ended, but its so refreshing when other videos are unnecessarily long
Pro Tip: Tuning in this order is Even safer: 612534 or 162534 cause the thicker strings apply even more pressure than the thin ones!
This isn't actually true. T (Tension) = (UW x (2 x L x F)2) / 386.4 or check out this handy chart i.imgur.com/rms49Hh.jpg
All 6 strings apply almost the same tension, it’s really not that important
Jose: This is quite possibly the most absurd and ill-informed statement made on CZcams today. Bravo!
Grindwërks 😂😂
Not true, a well set up guitar would have approximately even tension on every string. If that’s not the case on your guitar then you would have created torsional force and warp your neck.
just got my first ever guitar a week ago, and its a floyd rose and i absolutely love it
15yrs playing and I just bought my first FR equipped guitar, thx for this info.
Nothing will beat Steve Vai’s dive bomb at the beginning of the Halo 2 theme song.
help my daughter understand a Floyd rose to my daughter. Thanks my dude! Thumbs Up!
the mutting helped me, I have a GIO Ibanez GRX70, and although it's not a floyd rose, it usually "dirties" the sound, and I didn't know why, turns out it was the springs on the back, I really thought my playing was sloppy it didn't matter how much I tried to clean it up, but it was the f ing springs, thank you so much
Thank You So Much , Open World Clip 🤘💯🌟🙏💕
Alexi Laiho invented dive bombs flutter, he did it all the time. Also Glenn Tipton at the end of the solo for Electric Eye on Screaming for Vengeance in 1982.
With the string tuning order, I've heard it's best to balance it in the order of G, D, B, A, high E, low E
The flutter is why I’m even considering a floyd rose. They’re so much cooler than divebombs!
Thanks brother ..love it..thinking about throwing down on my first Floyd Rose equipped guitar next week 👍 this helps..have heard a lot of negativity on tunning one but thanks to you and Doug marks ..looks relatively easy 🙂
Had Floyd Roses for years. HM strat, multiple Ibanez, etc. My favorite part was finally getting an evertune bridge and never tuning again.
2:45 nope, horizontal vibrato can make the note go flat. Steve Vai discussed this in depth when explaining how he developed his circular vibrato
Only on fretless instruments. Horizontal vibrato with a fret will only make it dull or start to buzz unless you push down harder. Steve Vai uses a Floyd Rose to do his circular vibrato.
@@DM-pv4rw Nope czcams.com/video/wuRS_hQLLRg/video.html 1:20 clearly says it goes flat and 1:30 circular vibrato is done without the whammy bar
@@anidemolimacnauj I never saw that video. I thought he used the floyd rose most of the time to go flat. Also, hes talking about "classical" vibrato used on violins and stuff. He says it goes flat a little bit, but idk man I dont really hear anything. The only thing I can imagine is if you push the string down with a high action, itll pull it out of tune, and as you lighten up it will make it flat. Kinda what he was explaining with the cheat version of making a note seem flat though. Logic says the fret doesnt move and the string cant loosen without not touching the fret anymore. But Steve Vai says otherwise so I guess you're right lol.
I got a Floyd rose as my 2nd guitar ever my only electric guitar and that was two weeks after getting my first guitar. Start with the hardest and everything else will be easier
My favorite trick is tuning
Yo those floyd rose springs on the back sound badass
Great presentation. Thank you. Yuma,AZ
Picked up a Schecter with a Floyd rose a week and a half ago! These tips certainly help 🙏🏽
I just bought my first real guitar a few days ago, and it’s a Schecter with a Floyd Rose. I love it so much, but the thought of tuning it or changing the strings was a bit intimidating. Just curious, but now that you’ve had some time with yours, how do you like it?
great tip with the spring damping to get a clear and dry sound, even especially applies to my strat. Thanks again.
That tuning tip... youve saved me hours of my life
Exedous, Blacklist had a flutter bomb in the solo!
I'm 99% sure there's a "who flutter bombed first" question now.
You're a badass player. The thing with Anubis was dope!
Damn the noise reduction tip was so useful. It was the only way to stop the noise while playing standing
Thanks man. I have ordered a Jackson JS32 Dinky with Floyd Rose. My first Floyd Rose guitar (Steve Vai fan here). The tuning tip is really usefull.
“Something something Polyphia”
“That chick can shred!” My friend first time seeing Tim Henson play. Lol
I had a Tremel-No system for one of my guitars and it worked really well for balancing the bridge for full float
I just pulled off a string gauge change on my Floyd Rose 1500 series Schecter and learned a really cool trick! To adjust the spring tension on the trem springs use the Phillips screws that hold the claw inside your guitars cavity back to get your strings in tune!!! Block your trem as you change strings one at a time! Don’t cut all your strings off at once, huge mistake!! Take your time and please have you guitar in the playing position when you tune it and also have access to a nice tuner. I would tune up a half step then adjust the screws on my claw holding the tremolo springs and check tuning then so on.... small adjustments very small! Saved my self a trip to the guitar tech! Shred on!!!
That tone in the intro totally crushes
It's Ignite Emissary if you can believe it
@@treyxaviermusic I've never been a plugin guy, clearly I'm going to have to check that out at some point!
This was very informative thank you sm this helped me sm
The only place ,that gives this tuning tip,KUDOS.
+ I got to mention: while tuning, always tune a quarter step flat coz when you'll screw the locking heads, it'll go sharp. ;)
That's only if the bar pressing the strings behind the locking heads is not setup properly. It's its job to compensate for the locking mechanism. Only reason it's there.
Try adjusting its height until there's almost no difference in pitch locked or unlocked.
Oilid actually if your locking nut is set up right (flush to strings end to end) It should not change the tuning.
Thanks Raphaël but I got no bar behind the nut (old school style!) :)
Don't hesitate to check my channel for a load of guitar reviews ;)
Thanks Sophia, I think I've got this issue. :)
Don't hesitate to check my channel for a load of guitar reviews ;)
I noticed that the thicker the string is , the sharper it'll go.
Thanks for your advices. Specially with tuning guitar, it was always hard task for me
Came here to learn because I bought that exact same model with the hollow birds haha
Regarding the "quieting" of the tremolo/floyd springs, the cleanest way that I know is to insert some foam inside each spring : cut a thin strip of foam longer than the spring, attach it to something that can be easily passed through the spring, insert the foam strip inside the spring using that something, then cut the foam to length.
This PRS is the sexiest one i ever seen!
Trust me...this is beautiful but there are 10x more better looking ones.
before playing divebombs, add some delay for extra coolness
Can’t wait to get one one day
Great tuning tip about the order of the strings - love it!
Litterally my dream guitar
Lately I've been considering adding a bit of stank to my playing. Thanks for showing me how!
got one on Christmas morning with very little knowledge and broke a string instantly. two days later i feel as if i know what i'm doing and its balanced and stays in tune with only the help of a few CZcams vids.... saved me $60+ at a guitar store for a setup
I cut up foam and put inside of the strings. It's more aesthetic and equally effective if not even more
I fucking love that PRS!! Man that thing is sweet!
There are definitely some tricks to setting up and tuning a Floyd... Totally worth it tho. Great tips.
Love that black cherry color. Wow!
The Passing Plane is my personal favorite. 🎸
To tune/adjust my floyd rose, i just loosen the spring tension so the floyd is underneath the body of the guitar, then i tune up the pegs, adjust them and after 2-3 times doing that i'm able to do is right away, without adjustments (well a bit when it's new strings must adapt to the tension xD).
Else the s720 from Ibanez is an amazing update from all standard floyd rose/Ibanez edge zero tremolo system, the little wheel on the back is so great xD i should have bought that over the s520 and bc rich nj beast, at least on ibanez they did little cuts on the back so we don't need to remove the plastic cover at all ^^
Thanks for the tuning tip
Just got a jackson kvx, I'm loving tgis tremolo syste! Its so freaking fun.
Which one did you get? I’m thinking of getting the king v
What Steve Vai does is nice as well, depress the bar before playing a normal note or chord and then raise the pitch into the intended tones.
I am sort of glad my first guitar had a floyd. Baptism by fire!
I never owned a Floyd before. Picked up a 30 year old HM squier strat and I love the stability compared to a vintage style.
I am grateful that guys like this put up information videos - But they seem to be confusing the term "Guitar God" with what they actually are: "Guitar Teachers".
This guitar color is wonderfull!
Thanks a lot!!👌
A rosewood neck would look sick on that
I found you can tune in order (eadgbe) if you have a good ear and attention to tension. You have to tune sharp on each string going down. As you add tension it ends up evening out towards the end if you are careful. Still plays to the laws of balance.
3:26 check out any song on the Forced Entry album/CD/MP3.. whatever... "As Above So Below..." they have been doing that since 1991. Like at the ending of the solo on Bone Cracking Fever. or my fav rif... Macrocosm, microcosm.
Awesome video, immediately subscribed😀
I love the flutter myself. Just subscribed btw. Good video buddy🤙
Great video!
I believe the flutters are called chirps as well abysmal dawn does em a good bit
Jeff, Beck used to do the flutter bomb on a Strat
Wow, taught me something with #6... have never considered the springs being picked up. My Hellraiser is about to get the Charmin treatment later, lol. \m/
oh i love that fret board, the black birds!!
I loved # 6 ! Thank you
Video was really good
I feel like Steve Vai came up with the 'flutterbomb'. This is one of the nicest PRS's I've ever seen though.
That guitar is so cool!😍
Brad Gillis came up with a sound SIMILAR to your flutter bomb. But this is an AWESOMELY informative, and well thought out video. Thank you.
Yeah that’s when I first heard it “Don’t tell me you love me”
John Petrucci has done it for years.
Whew....I thought I just burst his bubble by telling him about Brad!!!
Glad I wasn't the only one who picked up on that!!!
Brad was doing it way before John...and I'm a HUGE Petrucci fan!!!
A really nice example of #5 is at the end of the solo in Under a Glass Moon. Well not with a floyd rose buts its the same thing.
Lol yeah, I didn't really know about the first tip with balancing the strings from outside to inside .great tip though!👌🏻👍🏻
It only just made sense to me in a weird way too do it that way.
I had a lot of exactly that detuning so I went systematically from outside low and high E to the inside B, A to D, G and voila it stayed in tune.
Loving the recent tutorial-style stuff!
finally, flutter is the name for that technique :) ive been always searching the name
