2002 was a time when the Redskins’ QB merry-go-round turned into a out-of-control cyclotron. The Ol’ Ball Coach proved fickle, swapping starting QBs the way Liz Taylor swapped out husbands. Here we have Wuerffel’s moment at the top. Dressed to impress in those terrific 70th Anniversary uni’s, the Redskins whipped up a surprisingly decent effort, rallying from 10-0 down to nip Kurt Warner and the visiting defending NFC Champion St. Louis Rams.
Stephen Davis had a lovely three touchdown day, and Darrell Green made a great game-saving play near the end. But it was Wuerffel’s 16-for-23 235-yard performance that brought the house down. It was an effort so gloriously unexpected that Wuerffel was immediately whisked from the field following the game, taken to a secret location to be preserved in amber, then enshrined for future generations to worship - and hence, he has never been seen or heard from again.
Warner had to settle for the Hall of Fame, alas.

Loved these old school uniforms for the skins. They should’ve changed their name to the Washington Warriors and used these uniforms, with a bit of a modern touch/upgrade, instead of commanders. I do like the current unis, but these are fire.

@@KennyMcCormick99 - I actually did when they first asked the fans to send their input for the new name. I got a large petition going and sent it to them with all the names. It was only about 130 people, but still. But I think they were never gonna listen to the fans. It was just a facade to make us think we had input. They already knew they were gonna use commanders, cuz literally nobody in the fandom requested that name!
Or at least go back to the original name.. The Braves

Stephen Davis was one of the top notch RBs of the Redskins.
The fact he chose to retire a panther instead of with us was frustrating
Spurrier really sealed his fate when he cut Davis after this season. Defenses the next season easily figured out his pass-heavy system, and there was no running game to take any kind of load off.
There’s commentary in some of the 2000 games about Davis being expected to be released at the end of the ‘02 season for salary cap reasons. So it might not have been a Spurrier decision so much as a situation he inherited.

2002 Redskins throwbacks - BEST uniforms in the history of all sports! Now, the 2022 Commodes uniforms with the white pants and no stripes look so stupid, like they are running around in their underwear! What an embarrassment now.
The all black uniforms were particularly appalling to me. Transparent attempt to look cool. No good.
