Giant RC 747 Crash

- At the 2019 AvaFest in Brazil, a very large 747 made an appearance that was powered by four KingTech K140 turbines. Unfortunately, during it's Saturday demo flight, one of the wings suffered a failure which lead to the demise of this beast.

A team of 3-inch tall NTSB investigators were on the scene in minutes.

Such a shame to lose a grand model like that. Condolences to the owner.
I wouldn't call this a grand model if it disintegrates in mid air without a reason
@@ekstrapolatoraproksymujacy412 It did disintegrate for a reason though. The pilot operated the craft outside of its flight envelope, leading to fatigue and eventual structural failure of the starboard wing materials.
(whoosh)

The scale speed of that thing had to be around Mach 2
You’re not kidding
Randall Huston beautiful model but Yeah i always hated that, ruins the look you got a scale plane but cause of the size the thrust to weight is way off, i knew an older guy who flew models of air lifters and he told me he would constantly weaken the engine on his big craft to get that docile flying look, he would have freaked to see this awesome model
@@drumking241 speed is just one aspect of scale. You must also fly the aircraft in a scale manor, ie.. Smooth, no jerky movements.
I thought same thing. Fastest 747 I've ever seen.
Obviously people have no idea about Reynolds numbers.
Fucking rivet counters.
It had way more power than it needed to fly realistically, and he used every bit of it to fly it like a fighter jet. Whoops!
Yeah😂
Yea, they way he flew it reminded me of how they flew Boeings in the Turbulence animation short.
@@mattesteclap clap clap
Yeah, he was putting way to much stress on the wings.
I was thinking myself everyone wants to fly like a fighter pilot....
Always very entertaining these videos where a costly RC aircraft that has taken great efforts to build, prepare and bring to the airshow gets completely destroyed in a few seconds
He's lucky it didn't crash into the crowd during that fly by.
I'll bet he shit his pant's pretty solid.
at events like this those planes never fly above crowds. The reason is obvious...
Rammstein would totally have to change their name to AvaFest if that happened! xD
@Louis Jones no ?
he's lucky he didn't crashed it in buildings
Am I the only one who thinks that plane was flown too fast and loaded too heavily - First responders were rather sheepish
That was my exact thought
It did look heavy but also looked like it wasn’t happy flown any slower. Too much wing rock for my liking too
I thought same too
The day before one of the turbines in that wing burned. Then they swapped with a new one the day of the flight, but at that point the flames from the burnt turbine probably have weakened the wing's structure and caused the crash.
Those sheep look like cows.
After replaying the video a couple of times, my theory is that due to all the banking from side to side caused a lot of stress in the wing and therefore, caused it to rip apart. I may be wrong but that’s what I think happened.
Agree, but the plane should sustain such movements as they can happen any time due to wind turbulences or other maneuvers necessary to correct the flight path immediately. Good luck though that it didn't happen when the pilot needed to correct the path during the fly-by! There could be an aerodynamic issue causing banking and/or the main part of the aileron not having the necessary strength for the size/weight of the plane.
@@jean-marcducommun8185 yeah, it could also be that the material on the rc version could be different to the real version which could impact the aerodynamics.
It looked unstable the entire flight, it was probably on its way to coming off, and the parasite drag from the damaged wing was causing the banking, before eventually a gust of wind or something got under the separating fuselage and ripped it right off.
Probably a combination of a weak airframe and flying it like a cowboy. That low fly-by was very telling, it looked to be flying way too fast for what it is. Overspeed, oversized, overflown.
Identical to the American Airlines Flight 587 crash in New York, aggressive rudder movement caused a separation. With the model add wind and higher than real life speed.

Frankie Ford people close the pilot said that one of the wings had gotten some crack one day before the accident.
This always makes me very sad, because these people just want to have a good time, and when their costly creation crashes, it just breaks my heart.
Madaspy it’s part of it. Bound to happen.
If this breaks your heart, how is a crash with deaths involved? I agree with it tho, somehow its more sad for an rc plane to crash then a plane because a plane is a statistic but a rc crash is 1 person. "1 death is a tragedy, a thousand deaths is a statistic" (not my quote)
Lighten up, Francis.
Now imagine how spacecraft engineers feel when a rocket launch doesn’t work the way it was supposed to
Two kinds of rc aircraft. Ones that have crashed and those that are going to crash.
While the cause of the crash is unknown, this is properly what happened: during a previous landing some parts of the right wing were damaged, which then caused those parts of the right wing to fly off mid flight causing an explosion which severely damaged the wing, which eventually ripped off which caused the plane to go into a violent spin which resulted in a crash, all 403 passengers and 13 crew members were killed, in one of the worst 747 accidents.

There are strict standards regarding the materials which can be used to construct these things.
No cardboard, or cardboard-derivates, for example.
Came for the comments , was not disappointed .
2:13 Brings it in like a friggin' Kamikaze. I'm surprised it stayed together as long as it did. Being able to own such a machine does not translate to being able to fly such a machine. Sad... such a spectacular model.
The wing falling off reminds of one of the Trans-World crashes
you can actually see the right wing failing in that high speed pass... if you look closely between the #3 and #4 engine you can see it bending upward slightly in the middle and by the time he got it to the downwind leg, the failure & crash occurs!
Matt Beil He wasn’t pulling any heavy G’s in that

When it hit...it was really moooooooo-ving....

For what it’s worth, you entertained the HELL out of me for 4:35…..👍✈👍✈👍✈
It was caused by a wingstrike from a previous flight. it made cracks around the damaged wing and the maintenance engineers never detected it. the cracks got bigger and bigger until it damaged a flap which caused half of the wing to break apart. Then it plummeted down to a field of cattles. The investigators theorised that it may be caused from a fatal birdstrike or a bomb.
NTSB investigators were initially very excited when they thought they'd discovered the blackbox recorder, but unfortunately it later turned out to be just a piece of lego.

I'm sure it sucks big time for the builder/operator, but there's something satisfyingly realistic looking the way these RC aircraft come apart. Y'all gotta start putting telemetry FDRs (black boxes) onboard. Accelerometer, air speed, and altitude graph would look neat to see for the final 5-10 seconds of flight!
