    Mogami was one of the first truly unbalanced (broken) ships in World of Warships. At the game's release, the main battery of this ship could be buffed via commander skills to absolutely silly proportions. Many, MANY hits with the nerf hammer later, 155mm Mogami is a mere shadow of her former self. Surprisingly, though, both gun configurations remain valid in the modern game, IMHO. In this video I'll talk about how I build my Mogami, why I fit her out that way, how I recommend playing her, and follow all of that up with a game demonstrating the ship in action.
    Enjoy!

    for dispersion were you looking at the 155s or 203s they have different dispersion curves

    • @NochKlinka
      @NochKlinka Před 10 měsíci

      using the dispersion tool you were 203 Mogami has the best close and mid range dispersion, I think you used 155 Mogami in the graphs for the video

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  Před 10 měsíci +3

      I was trying to find the 203 curves, the ones I had were the 155 ones. I assumed they were the same. If they aren't, then that's another notch in 203 Mogami's cap.

      Is there a different tool than the one I'm using? The one I have linked in the video description doesn't let me pick anything but the 155s as a gun module. EDIT: DERP, I found it. I am dumb.

    Checking out your video months in the future after coming back to the game after a long break. Excellent guide, especially on the differences between 203mm and 155mm Mogami.
    As a CV player as well I think the DFAA argument is stupid personally. DFAA is not going to deter strikes on you (if the CV even notices you're using it) nor is it going to allow you to magically delete fighters in your operating area that much faster. If a CV decides to deny you stealth, DFAA isn't going to help you. Hydro on the other hand can and will save you or your team's bacon if you happen to find yourself on the same flank as a sub or a torpedo destroyer, and it can also give you more options to play around islands than you would otherwise have. I stood by Hydro before submarine surveillance was added to IJN cruisers, and I think it makes even more sense now that IJN cruisers are potent sub-hunters.

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I think hydro paired with sub surveillance - added after these videos were made - is a valid argument. IJN cruiser AA isn't generally enough of an issue below T9 that even with DFAA up an even-tiered carrier likely won't notice. Ibuki's AA isn't too bad and Zao's AA is actually quite solid; those are the only IJN heavies I would even consider it on. The AA on the IJN light cruisers is pretty gnarly, though.

    Great Mogami vid; its nice to see her 203mm setup discussed as well considering how the 155mm's are generally more popular. She's no Atago, but I've managed to rekindle my love for the ship in the latest Ranked season; she forces you to focus on being good at the basics of cruiser play to make it to the mid and late game where she can really shine.
    Also am in agreement with the other guy that posted that a video covering the history of the Mogami class would be an entertaining one to watch; the class had both an interesting development history, growing pains, and if nothing else Kumano deserves a mention considering she just refused to die for the longest time during the Philippines campaign.

    This is an amazing guide, especially the guns segment. I've been struggling with Mogami for quite a while. I was running the 203's (on the advice of a big youtuber) and I just couldn't get used to the light configuration with the big guns. I was consistently struggling to break 30k. I switched back to the 155's and I am averaging about at 90k. I guess it's all down to personal playstyle. Now I've started to play it like I would a Nurn or any other light kiter and I'm starting to make some progress. It reminds me of Roon, The oddity in the line..
    Great game though, It was a pleasure to have a lesson on what this ship can do with the 203's when it's in the right hands :)

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Believe me, I was kinda shocked to have such a good game with the 203s. I have been a 155mm Mogami fanboi since the early days of WoWS (because of how obscenely OP she was). My mantra has always been: if you want a 203mm Japanese cruiser at Tier VIII, buy an Atago. I'm going to have to revise my thinking after this.

    • @craigdavid4718
      @craigdavid4718 Před 10 měsíci

      Exactly! Mogami is a great ship.. Those 203's can do amazing things. They take skill, and experience to use properly though. Something I sorely lack just now 😃

  • @AdavidPT
    @AdavidPT Před 10 měsíci

    There is only one Mogami and that is the 155 :D
    - I'd fancy a vid about the ships history in the game.
    - try the live dangerous build; prop and rudder mods. You go to 10.5km conc, but she dances like no other.
    - should have gone for AP on that broadside mosquito spawner :/

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  Před 10 měsíci

      You have to remember that Lexington's portside armor belt is much thicker than her starboard side one. I doubt I would have gotten much out of the AP.
      Double rudder Mogami would be living dangerously indeed. I don't think I can recommend that to folks playing through the line initially or learning how the ship works. It's valid, of course, but much more advanced. =)

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  Před 3 měsíci

      Many of the same builds and strategies apply; the main difference is that the bots don't generally maneuver very much and will continue to sail straight at you long after they should have turned and done something different.

  • @Boatswain_Tam
    @Boatswain_Tam Před 3 měsíci

    I'd say grind through the Mogami when you must, but if one is looking for a good (in fact, its excellent) IJN cruiser experience at T8 - buy the Atago, period. It is probably the best value for money you can get out of this game

  • @martyrudd5385
    @martyrudd5385 Před 10 měsíci

    I dont see the attraction of the 155s. You get 50% more rounds per salvo, but... the damage (obviously), dispersion, and the velocity is worse. I average more DPM on the 203s. Plus the extra punch knocks out more modules.
    Doesn't matter if I am hunting DDs, farming damage on BBs, or dueling it out with another cruiser, the 203s get the job dome better.

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  Před 10 měsíci

      The rate of fire is a pretty big draw; you are 4 seconds faster on the reload than 203 Mogami. The difference is that it takes more work (commander skills) in order to get the same kind of performance out of the guns, and the 155s have a different dispersion ellipse and are less accurate.

  • @RadoGG
    @RadoGG Před 10 měsíci

    Well, I am one of those poor souls that moves captains from one ship to the ship next tier, and it seems I'm in a little trouble with moving from Myoko to Mogami regarding captain skills. Should I bother too much or I just take my big-boy-pants-on and just grind through the 155 gun when I get to the Mogami?

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  Před 10 měsíci

      There's two ways you can approach this, IMHO. If you can respec the captain, OR you can just Free XP up to the 203mm gun module as soon as you unlock the ship. I guess there's technically a third option as well: you can just suffer with the 155mm guns without IFHE until you grind out enough XP to open up the 203s... just be advised that you likely will not enjoy that process.

    • @RadoGG
      @RadoGG Před 10 měsíci

      I just checked the wiki page, the 203 module is only 15k XP, so I will do FreeXP the thing. Thanks for the advice! Great educational video as usual for this series! Keep them LTP videos going on !!!

    A joy to watch Raptor. I don't know why but I've always liked 6" Mogami. Her gun angles are atrocious, worst in game I think for any cruiser. If you play her with the 8", she becomes awesome at kiting. But I just need the DPM fix. ;)

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  Před 10 měsíci

      Seattle's gun angles are definitely worse than Mogami, but you're not wrong that they take some getting used to.

    • @AllAhabNoMoby
      @AllAhabNoMoby Před 10 měsíci

      @@SeaRaptor Mogami's (6") are 45 degrees to the front and 50 to the rear. Not even Seattle - which is admittedly a close second 😂 - beats that.

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  Před 10 měsíci +1

      So let's have a look. Mogami can get:
      9 barrels 20 degrees off the bow.
      12 barrels 40 degrees off the bow.
      15 barrels 45 degrees off the bow.
      Seattle can get:
      12 barrels 35 degrees off the bow.
      Advantage Seattle when firing forward.
      Looking astern, Mogami can get:
      9 barrels 31 degrees off the stern.
      15 barrels 51 degrees off the stern.
      Seattle can get:
      9 barrels 36 degrees off the stern.
      12 barrels 49 degrees off the stern.
      I'd have to give a slight advantage to Mogami in this instance; equivalent firepower (9 barrels) is available to Mogami at a better angle. If you want more barrels than that, both ships give up about the same angle to incoming fire.
      All told it's probably a wash, but Mogami has a large advantage when kiting (which is where she wants to be). If Seattle wants to kite, she's going to struggle harder with it than Mogami will (and lacks Mogami's torpedoes). Seattle can push easier, but pushing isn't something a light cruiser generally does well.
      You're right to point out that Mogami's firing angles are a struggle though, I should have highlighted this more. I'll do that in the addenda video.

    • @AllAhabNoMoby
      @AllAhabNoMoby Před 10 měsíci

      @@SeaRaptor You make a good point being more specific on the numbers. I tend to want to get everything lined up and with either of these ships, it's a bad idea. When you settle for the rear two, she definitely has the edge over Seattle (well except for rate of fire but of course, Seattle is T9), and like you said, that doesn't even include the torps, which are pretty major themselves.
      Because of your video I took Mogami out for a spin and had a good game, first time in a long time. But she really can't hold a candle anymore to Mainz. I hate power creep. Because now every time I even consider Mogami, I will realize there's ships that are better in every way that matters.
      Anyway, thx for the exchange. I learned something... again. ;)

  • @Shogun0099
    @Shogun0099 Před 10 měsíci

    Honestly it is weird, despite being a tier higher this ship feels like a downgrade from the Miyoko except for the concealment (which *theoretically* lets you stealth torp but I don't think that's a great idea on this ship)

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  Před 10 měsíci

      She feels like a downgrade, but she's probably more of a side-grade. Some of that is just because Myoko is so silly good.

  • @sintho357
    @sintho357 Před 6 měsíci

    how dare you recommend to remove the 155mm from the mogami and put them on a premium ship.

    • @SeaRaptor
      @SeaRaptor  Před 6 měsíci

      Having recently played both variants, I think the notion that it's "better" is pretty subjective. Each main battery variant of Mogami brings something different to the table. My frustration with the 155mm tech tree variant is that not only is it radically different from the IJN light cruisers we ended up getting, but it doesn't fit the entire rest of the line.
